Pre-65 Bikes

Looking for a wee bit help please.Building a D7 trials bike.Nearly finished it but when out testing it in the field next to the house the bike pulls well from the bottom end but goes off at the top end(looses power/flat).It is fitted with a 22mm Amal concentric carb and the std. pan cake filter(not the one with the strangler).I'm not looking for an instant cure but a wee point in the right direction would be braw i.e. jetting??? cheers the noo Brian P.s. the carb is brand new

I've been using an NGK B5ES in the Ariel (spark is thanks to Interspan unit) and was just wondering what everyone is running. I had a plug break down on Sunday and people are starting to say Champion are better that NGK etc etc. So I started wondering if the nose is the same would I be any better off using one of the new all singing all dancing plugs or just try a Champion equivelant? What is the preference NGK or Champion? Thanks

I am trying to find the builder of a frame which i have for sale on ebay it has an X stamped on the headstock and a frame number begining XG 25**4 any help would be appreciated

Iam certain I have seen metallic silver long plastic rear mudguards with front to match somewhere out there on a bike. The Gonelli ones are just too short at 70cm and the only Stilmotor ones (100cm) Steve Goode has are grey or white. I would like a pair on my chrome-framed Cub as I can't see the alloy ones lasting long the way I ride! Can anyone suggest as supplier?

Not too far from finishing the build of my C15, never done a trial before, used to do modern enduro`s so ok (ish) on the mud. I`ve done the usual mods but funds don`t yet run to fiddle forks, so have some old Betors with the outboard triple clamp bolts. I`m in B`ham so looking to ride around Midlands, and I`m sure I won`t be gracing any podiums in the foreseeable.... Which clubs will turn a blind eye (if any?) and would I be eligable to go in Specials class in Sammy Miller series next year? Hi All, I'm new to the forum so go gently on me! I'm building a C15 for chugging up and down green lanes and the occasional really easy trial. I've decided to fit lights and have converted to 12V using a solid state regulator/rectifier. My question is, can anyone suggest a battery I can use? I just wanted the smallest, lightest 12 Volter I can tuck away somewhere with enough capacity to spit a few sparks out when I start the bike. it would be highly advantageous if I could fit it in any orientation so sealed or AGM would be ideal. I'm not particularly concerned about being able to keep the lights at full brightness at tickover. I don't really understand electrisity …

Hi Guy's. I see that Woody has his C15 for sale on e-Bay. This bike has the power in a C15 that everyone is looking for, I am currently trying to build an engine that is simular. It is a shame, I have now got most of the parts together! Or I would be bidding on Woody's bike. So if you are intrested in a bike that wins trials! I would take a look at this before it is to late? Could someone tell me what thread size the studs are that screw into the inlet port on a C15 head. I want to fit longer studs to move the carb backwards but I'm useless with British thread sizes. Secondly, does anyone know if they can be bought in longer sizes? If not I'll buy bolts and make studs out of them.

OK, so next question on the beezer :-) How do you remove the clutch operating arm from the drive that moves the push rod, is it a screw fix or taper? Thanks

Hello all I now own a sprite trials bike and looking for more info on the bike. I think it is one of the earlier models but im unsure. The bike seems to be in very original condition even with the original fuel tank i think. Any info would be great.

After a second look at the Yorks classic trials website covering the Pre 65 Scottish pics (I really appreciate this photo coverage service being down under) On one pic I noticed the Big John Matchless has a modified primary cover which would indicate the shock absorber spring is removed / changes to the chain drive, the result being a slimmer / reliable good primary gearing and a neat primary drive. I have not noticed this mod previously and am interested in what constitutes the primary drive which looks like a major improvement as well as reducing engine width. Does anyone have a sprocket recommendation on a C15 for Trials? I would prefer to stay away from a huge back sprocket and am really only concerned about getting first low enough. This bike has the 33/17 first gear....listed as wide ratio in the RR book. (Oddly the other gears match the close ratio numbers in the book.) From what I can tell, the smallest transmission sprocket is 13 tooth and the smallest motor sprocket is 18. With the existing 56 rear sprocket, I calculate an overall 1st gear about 24:1. The same calculation for my Reflex with 9/44 final drive gives me 45:1. Am I missing something?

Riding round the garden today on the C15 and had to reverse the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in and it wouldn't go backwards unless it was in neutral.The clutch is fine and clears all the gears,is this normal????.I have never noticed this before (recently changed gearbox camplate with upgraded part,gear change is fine),could it be something to do with the kickstart/pawl as it's action now seems further forward than it used to be. cheers the noo Brian

My wife has been left this after her Grandfather passed away. All I know is that I believe he built it from parts he found/bought. Any help in identifying it would be much appreciated. It does run and seems to be in fairly good order, there are a few parts missing and I will be replacing them soon and hopefully riding it. Carl
