Pre-65 Bikes

Hello, I recently acquired a 1960 Greeves Scottish. I live in Washington State north of Seattle. It is in pretty rough shape but its not locked up and most all of the parts are there. My mission is to clean it up, get it running and ride it. Perhaps get into a few pre 65 trials. As I bought her (minus the Villiers carb and air filter) Tore it down to the frame. Cylinder is on the standard piston. Bore looks ok. Will probably go first oversize. gearbox is another story....lots of cleaning needed. Gonna ditch the points and get an electronic ignition. Probably the Greeves unit. 500 bucks! Any suggestions out there? This should be a fun project. Mike

I need to identify this rear hub and sprocket from my new project. It looks a Triumph to me but not sure, actually it´s in a old James, a quite original bike. Any idea? Thanks for the help.

As many of you know i an still persevering with the sows ear project. Mainly because i have no choice and no money now What i want to know is we are now in the 21st century so why is it that when i buy an item sometimes costing hundreds of pounds manufactured from billet on a CNC machine that cost more than my house NOTHING EVER FITS !!!!!! why do i always have to work on the item to make bearings fit or to make it fit the other parts supplied sometimes from the same supplier ????? Everything i have bought lately NOTHING fits ! i have to spend ages with wet and dry or machining the component on my lathe etc Surely it's not too much to expect when paying so …

I removed top end to find source of rattle (bent push rod) and while checking conrod this piston was revealed. I am wondering is this a stock item or has it been machined specifically (for what purpose). The numbers are AE 16945 413 IL82 GI and top is marked STD 5LL. I have tried looking up web for catalogues to no avail as I would like to replace rings. Any Ideas as to where I can source these.

where is the best place to pick up a pre65 2 stroke? looking at a sprite or james twinshock shop has both but the sprite has a modern carb but should be ok to change over james looks ok.

Just I-ve received the letter of Pre 65 Scottish 2 Days entry. Number 5 and plenty of ilusion to ride again.... Any news about routes, sections ???

Hi there Anyone have any idea of where I can get a set of fork seals for my late 60's sprite 250 i'm rebuilding ? The only number I can find on the seal is NC0866 but google doesn't help Many thanks John

Hi Happy New Year to you all. Can anyone tell me how much extra clearance a Miller Swingingarm gives compared to the standard Cub one. From the rear face of the s/arm crossmember to the front of the rear wheel axle slot measures 13 inches on a standard cub. I rode a trial on Sun but couldn't complete it, due back wheel clogging up . conditions were bad, thick mud and dry leaves. Oh no more expense!!!

Hi just joined this forum, I’ve a chance on buying a Greeves twinshock , I’ve only a photo with not much description, I want to find out some information before viewing, could anyone give me a rundown on model, engine year etc etc. . I want to mount my Miller swing arm, but I don't get the old one out of the frame. The spindle is one peace with the busches ( rust ), any Ideas or special tools to dismount it ?

Getting this off my chest. I do not expect any support in my post. I just wanted to say it and share it. I am a returning rider after a long lay off. I rode extensively in the North and mostly Cumbria. I managed to get to Intermediate standard which was hard to do. You had to win a Novice trial. Very hard 'upt North'. Once up a level you could not ride at a lower level. ie, No more Novice events or results. I now live in Suffolk and ride twin shock and Pre 70 bikes. I am 67 years old and ride the white routes. Here is my first gripe, why do those with far greater ability ride white routes? In some trials you ride as Expert and 50/50 but when it suits you ride the wh…

Hi, Im confused.. reading at a well known classic trials dealers site..their default recommendation is 18" x 1.85" rim for e.g. Cub rear assembly. Are you satisfied with rear end trials set up: 4-5psi, 1.85" ally rim and available 4.00? (well, people did use 1.6" x 19" rear for trials and scrambler back in the days.........and agriculture vehicles did perform with none "rubbered wheels" at driven axles in an other century... ) cheers,

Hi, just bought a HT and not sure whats what. Originally it was a `57 500 reg. and has scruiteneering marks at the bottom of the forks The bike was rebuilt around 2000in Scotland but the guy I bought it off bought it on a whim and prefers modern stuff and was pretty clueless.A letter with the bike states that the swing-arm, sumpguard,oil tank,front end, and 19"rear rim were on it at the SSDT.

Hi Guy's, Please can anybody help me., Not strictly pre 65 trials, however, I am trying to locate a copy of Motor Cycle New's from the late summer/early autumn of 1978. There is a photograph, ( it may be on the front cover) of Eddie Roberts standing next to Mike Hailwood's 1978 F1 Ducati after he had crashed it. The picture caption says something like " What will I tell Mike". Does anybody have a copy of this edition ?, if so please can you photostat a copy of the photograph and story and/or email it to me.
