Here we go... love it or hate it? I'm currently running Castrol TTS but was told that a teaspoonful of Castrol R in the mix will give you the classic 2 stroke smell, without the associated running problems. I'm off to make the woodlands smell nicer... Boner.

Well are you? How much is enough? What oil do I use? These are all questions that are commonly asked here. You may find many answers, Some old school, some conservative, some safe. Yet for the most part is seems that many tend to err on the old school rules here that no longer apply and in fact is is costing you money in both higher maintenance and wasted product. I will not even get into environmental concerns here, as it is a secondary issue, yet not forgotton. Now we are talking trials bikes here, mostly putting about, revving a bit on occasion, then you gotta doo the BIG hill and the bike starts smoking like a chimney! Why, you ask? Because it is fully loaded in th…

Interested to gauge opinion here ...... If you were looking at buying a 2016 model bike what would you buy and why ? I'm looking at buying a bike next year and want a new one (it's nice to treat yourself) the Montesa's look nice but are out of my price range. (I Had a bounce on one at the NEC yesterday) I had been looking at Shercos as I liked the look of them and the price, but also had a go on a beta on the try trials area (albeit a 125) And it got me thinking .... By the looks of it the beta is around £500 more than the Sherco (was looking at 300's) is there other makes i should be considering around the same price bracket ? Say 5 - 6k Also beta 2 stroke or beta 4…

There is good reason for me asking this which will become apparent in time I need to build a list of EVERY manufacturer - no matter how obscure or how historical - who has ever built a competitive Trials motorcycle. This is my list so far, but I know I'm bound to have missed plenty: Aprilia Beta BSA Bultaco Fantic Gas Gas Greeves Honda Montesa OSET Scorpa Sherco SWM Triumph Yamaha Xispa

.... be aware the DVLA are sending out letters stating that their records show a vehicle registered to you hasn't had SORN declared on it.I've had two of these letters relating to bikes not used on the road and purchased by me in 2013 and 2014.My wife keeps all the letters, receipts and emails on file relating to my bikes and other vehicles including DVLA correspondence and I can prove my vehicles are 'SORN'd'.Be very wary of disposing of any letters or emails from DVLA as it looks like they're trying to hit you for the back tax or fining you for not signing log books over.Hmmmmm, three and four years ago these two bikes were bought and SORN was immediately declared, funn…

I'm trying to help out a kid who recently acquired an air-cooled 2-stroke trials bike and then ran it without any oil. His father assured the kid that the bike was a 4-stroke because he found a plug that said "oil" in the engine. Of course, that was for the transmission oil! So, the kid filled the tank up with straight gas and started the bike up. After a while, he apparently became worried about the strange popping and pinging noises he said he heard coming from the cylinder. At that point he shut the engine down. He later called me to see if I knew why his engine would be making such strange noises. Adding to the problem, was the fact that the bike had been prev…

What tire pressure, front and rear, should I run for different conditions. I weigh 13.5 Stone (230 lbs). I don't want to have a pinch flat but I want as much traction as possible. The conditions I ride range from my concrete patio, in which I place cement blocks, wooden crates, and, what ever else I can find to practice on, to ravines with grass, sand, and, roots. Thanks for any suggestions. Amateur Section Crash Test Dummy

Just a brief history of my FI experience. With the exception of basic servicing and bleeding injection systems on diesel engines my FI experience started on tillotson carburettors on Karts in the late 1970s. Although they were called carburttors they did not have floats but rather relied on injecting fuel through high and low speed jets. The fuel was pressurised using diaphragms moved by crankcase pressure. Compared to a float type carburettor they had the advantages that the mixture could be adjusted whilst driving and they were unaffected by cornering forces that could be in excess of 4G. My next experience of EFI was open loop as used by Ford from about 1985. Several…

The Vertigo is expected to give about 30 HP, 300s from Beta, Sherco and Gasgas are reckoned to give in region of 25 / 27 HP. These sort of power outputs may be what a few top riders need for firing the bike up big steps and very steep slopes on dry grippy terrain, but is is needed or even desirable for 99% of riders?

I have a '99 Gas Gas TXT 270 and am looking to upgrade to something newer. My budget allows for something in the '04-'08 range. I have no trials clubs or competitions in my area, so I will only use it for trail and play riding. I don't want to start a brand bashing thread, but am wondering if one brand works and lasts better for trail (not trials) use. If you want to send me a PM or email (scrotis at hot mail dot com) I would really appreciate it. I know very little about trials bikes, because I am the only one in my area that has one. The little I do know is from my reading on here. Thanks.

I haven't gotten much action in the other forum so maybe there could be some help here. I picked up this old Honda Thumper in good shape, and want to know about weight reductions and improvements to the bike. Also any sources for aftermarket parts, frames, ergal, carbon fibre, titanium, helium, etc. Reducing weight of TL-250 Cheers and thanks in advance
