Greetings, Beginner rider with six months of riding under my belt here. I'm a heavy dude (currently 140kg, actually using the bike to lose weight) and put 10wt oil in the forks of my Beta when I first got it and got new, heavier springs for it. I'm in the midst of a fork seal change right now and the oil already looks ready to change, so I figured I'd do that as well - would you recommend I go back down to 5wt oil, or maybe 7.5wt? I'm frankly a bit clueless when it comes to the finer points of suspension, but I have noticed experienced riders can nearly bottom out their forks just lightly hopping in place. Mine seems a lot firmer, and it's a touch difficult to g…

As I've now got my son into trial I fancy a bike to ride. I'm disabled with a arm injury & I'm looking for riders experiences with the montesa 4rt. I'm a tall lad & I'm not looking to compete, I darent as my injury is severe, I do however want to have a bike to ride around, climb some hills & just have a bit of fun with my son. I gave up trials as I was far to busy racing speedway & I had a late 90s model gasgas. The 4rt had just arrived & saw Douggie on it, i just thought it was a superb bike & I kind of have my heart set on one. How do they compare to the 2 strokes? Does a 2 stroke bike have advantages apart from weight. I can't…

Hi! I’m passionate about moto trials and enduro riding but often struggle to find good places to ride. So, I created the Rolling Mavericks’ Trials, Enduro and MX Places-to-Ride Map. I’ve added some spots to get us started, mostly in Europe, but I need your help to expand it worldwide! If you do add your club or other place to ride, I need to approve it first before it shows up on the map. Just so know 🙂 Thanks

Looking for advice, i recently re-built engine (been ongoing for last couple of years) 90 % of parts were bought from TY Offroad. when started engine after 3-4 mins it starts loosing oil from right hand side of cylinder (from head gasket area) when i re-built i checked both the head and barrel and both are dead flat. The only thing i noticed was that the new head gasket (copper) doesnt have room for the o ring on oil passage stud. anyone else seen this or what was your fix? reluctant to use sealant around oil feed

Hi, Can anyone give me some carb advice? My bike hunts slightly at tickover, and I can't get the tickover to run smoothly. I've tried adjusting the pilot air screw without much success, so have now stripped the carb to give it a good clean. I have discovered that the needle clip is in the bottom Grove, No.5, the richest setting. The manual says position 4. Could this be the reason for the rough tickover? I was always under the impression that the needle didn't influence the running until after a quarter throttle position or thereabouts, so the needle position might have nothing to do with it? I have also noticed that the fan rarely comes on, indicating…

2011 gas gas 280 with tech forks, removed forks to replace seals. What should be a fairly straight forward job has turned into a head scratcher. I can’t get the new seals to seat properly as the bush will not go back into the fork leg. Has anyone had this before/ similar issues. Any advice would be great 👍

I have 2011 gas gas 280 with tech forks, fork seals leaking, removed forks and internals tried fitting new seals. New seals will not seat properly as I don’t seem to be able to get the bush to go back into the fork leg. Having spoke with various people and damaging 3 sets of seals on what should be a fairly straight forward job, does anyone on here have any advise/come across and similar issues ?

Hey guys Just bought my second trials bike, old used one. Wanted to try the 300cc. Anyways after some suspension fix, greasing the linkage, changing all the fluids and all that good stuff I wanted to take it for a spinn. Rode for let's say 10 minutes or so. Got back to my driveway and let it idle for 30 sec to a minute. It boiled over and I believe that the fan did not come on. Took the fan and the radiator of the bike, hooked the fan to a battery charger with some wires and the fan worked. So took a look at the electrical system to see if I could see any broken connectors or wires. All seems good to me. I have the Ducati system and I believe the "Fun Mo…

Hi guys, I was trying to find some info on the above topic, but it seems in general no new betas have this issue. First it happened, when I stopped for a second to drink, in neutral, the bike idling, it bogged down, and couldn’t kick start the bike anymore (didn’t fiddle with the carb, the bike has max 30hours), so had to push the bike home..thought I ran out of petrol. Checked the spark, it has a good one, spark plug gap spot on, the plug is black, not much wet. filled up the tank, bike started second kick. Went out riding, the bike stopped, couldn’t start it. Closed fuel tap, throttle wide open kicked it over a few times, after a while started, bit w…

I’ve just bought myself a bike after around 25 years out of the sport. While I’m getting the rest of the gear together, I’m just tweaking and setting up the bike. Does anyone have any suggestions on building up the clutch side grip to resemble that of the throttle side so they feel even? I dont have massive hands but find a standard size grip a bit on the small size. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. 👍🏻

Hi, I stripped my bike down to inspect the cylinder, had planned to just do a top end rebuild but the cylinder looks quite damaged on the inlet side. Would you leave it or what are my options? Does it need replating? My nail does catch on the marks. Additionally - the crank has some minor pitting. I’ve not done this before so unsure if it’s anything to be concerned about. A more experienced set of eyes would be appreciated! Cheers!

Following on from my other Beta thread... can anyone comment on what the Beta 4t Evos are like? Are the 300's a mellow well handling bike? And how do they stack up against the 4RT? I've had a slight hankering for a 4RT and like the idea of a 4 stroke generally but whenever I mention I usually get told that it will be no good in the mud (we get LOTS of that where I am) and that 'Ill get fed up with the weight of it. Not so worried about the weight, it would be lighter than my Fantic, I'm sure! But after enjoying my TRS and previously my Gas Gas (which I loved) I'd be a bit concerned about buying something thats going to be a pig to ride then regretting it, just b…

I am giving the forks on my Merlin a service. The forks are telesco, which I am not familiar with. Does anyone have a tech manual for them? Only one leg has a spring with a pre-tension mechanism. The other seems to house some sort of damping/rebound mechanism, with a 1 to 7 dial. My main question is how much oil in each leg and what grade? What does the 1 to 7 dial do? Chrs Loose Bruce
