Thursday lived up to its traditional tough billing as the 2013 Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) moved into the second and deciding phase of the competition. Dougie Lampkin (Gas Gas) used the opportunity of the longest day of the trial, and the toughest to date, to move into the lead for the first time this week. His single mark loss today puts him on seven in total, and sees him move ahead of overnight leader Alexz Wigg (Gas Gas) who dropped eight marks on day four.

As with a lot of the bigger trials the entries are by ballot. Is everyone in the ballot? are there seeded riders? Who's in and who's out. As always all the well known names are on the first list. Imagine Lampkin or someone like on the reserve list and not getting in. Would this be possible? Is the system a fair one? I've no axe to grind, just something I've been thinking about. Who would know the answer? cheers Tom

Alex Salmond - First Minister of Scotland was a welcomed visitor to the Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT) earlier today, as he toured the Parc Ferme as part of his current election campaign. The charasmatic politician was in good spirits as he enjoyed the glorious sunshine that has beseiged Fort William over more recent days. The SNP leader took time out from his busy schedule to meet the last few competitors of the field of two hundred and seventy six riders as they were about to set out on their first day of six in the Scottish Highlands.

Seventeen-year-old twin brothers Brad and Dec Bullock are gradually coming to terms with the Scottish Six Days Trial (SSDT), with this being the first time that either has competed in the world famous event. The teenagers from Tarvin near Chester have grown up riding trials, but have never witnessed the SSDT first hand prior to making their debut this week. With the exception of their riding numbers - Brad [268] and Dec [267] - spectators this week will have found it difficult to distinguish between the two brothers with both their appearance and riding style being almost identical. Sibling rivalry has been present since their very first trial aged seven, when Dec won a…

Just come across a date clash with this years SSDT that may impact accomadation availability in and around Fort William. The British Downhill Mountain Bike championships are been held on the final saturday of SSDT week at Ben Nevis. They ll be a couple of hundred riders plus followers add in the spectators etc and B&B wise it might be a tight squeeze.. As old Fred Pontin used to say '' Book early!''

The SSDT organisers are constantly looking forward to the future of the event. One factor that becomes more and more difficult is the management of the West End carpark. This years bad weather highlighted some of the disadvantages with the venue as it must be one of the most exposed start areas in the trials world ! Another major problem is car parking and this has got to the point of detracting from the general competitor and spectator experience. The organisers of the SSDT are currently considering a move to the Lochaber Rural Complex - this location is within a few miles of Fort William (beside Nevis range ski centre) offering under-cover secure facilities for…

How do you fancy getting involved with the biggest and best trial in the whole entire world?! The Scottish Six Days Trial is looking for a Secretary – someone to join the fun, mayhem and camaraderie of the SSDT Committee and help bring the greatest off-road motorcycle trial in the world to fruition in May 2013! Are you up for it? The SSDT Secretary’s job has traditionally been quite intensive, and as the trial has increased in size and stature, as has the work involved in getting it on the ground. The SSDT Committee have recognised that getting one person to take on the job is going to be difficult, and so over recent weeks the job has been broken down into six separ…

#211 is in 8th place. Nice to see. Jonathan Richardson is holding up well for, what I'm guessing is, top newcomer? And... on a 125? Alexz came on well today. Sam Haslem is holding very, very strong all week. The kids are doing alright. Oh, by the way... Where's Ross Danby?
