When surfing the web and reading some of the posts in this forum, there seems to be a tendency for contributers to return to the thorny issue of machine eligibility for "classic" and/or "pre 65" trials. Being just a little too young to qualify as "pre 65" myself, I was interested to find the programme and the results for the 1965 Hurst Cup trial on the Knock Motorcycle Club web site, and thought I'd share it here (http://www.knockmotorcycleclub.co.uk/ClubHistory/Hurst1965Program.pdf and http://www.knockmotorcycleclub.co.uk/ClubHistory/Hurst1965Results.pdf). "The Hurst" is one of the longest standing trials in Northern Ireland. Having first been held in 1930 it be…

Sorry about the poor quality but these photo's have been around for a few years! Taken in 1969 at a Chelmsford & Dist mcc Trial at Broomfield Pits. Shows Don DR Smith riding his works Cota 247 Reg No UMV 10F That had won the Team Prize at the SSDT that year along with Gordon Farley & Lawrence Telling. As ever in one shot DR had the obligatory 'Ciggy' on. Dave Cox

Have a look to this video 1970; Mick Andrews with the new and revolutionary Ossa: http://vimeo.com/3063737 By the way... in my opinion Mick Andrews is the best trials rider ever.

  12. Hello guys, last year I've got a 1973 Explorer with a semi-seized engine. Managed to find another one that should be in working conditions but the owner doesn't know which model it's from. I tried putting the engine in, it looks the same when it comes to frame brackets but it doesn't fit... it's like it's slightly thicker than the stock one where the engine meets the frame in the swingarm/filter area. Also noticed the right side sprocket cover is different (longer)... any idea? Is it better to slightly file the engine bracket or the frame?

Hello, My name is Morgan, I am 23, and live in Saskatchewan Canada. I was recently at a garage sale and saw an old bike, thinking it was a Honda Elsinore from behind. Got closer, realized it was a Montesa, owner asked me if I would like top buy it. I replied, "no, I don't have that kind of money", he laughed and said, "For $40 she is yours." So I bought it. It seems to be in decent shape, however it is missing a few bits and pieces. He had told me it did not have spark, and upon further inspection I found that the points are not opening up. So I have located replacement points and a condensor. My first question is, does anyone know where I can get flywheel pull…

Good morning, I recently purchased a RL to restore - does anyone know what engine the RL crosses over to? I need a chain guard cover for the left side. Thank you in advance.

  16. My recently purchased 1975 Yamaha Ty250 appears to have an enlarged aftermarket reed valve intake. I had to cut a new carb to air cleaner boot by about 15mm to get it to fit without crimping. Does anyone know what brand of aftermarket "performance" reed valve upgrade blocks would have been common back in the day. Or does anyone know of someone who still provides a block and reeds that would fit? My current reeds are frayed and broken.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I need some help. I'm fixing up a 1976 Kawasaki kt250, and the lights are burning out. I figured it would be a voltage regulator, but I'm not sure where, or if, it even has one. If I could just get some help from people who know more than me, that would be great.

I thought people might get a kick out of this US based catalog from 1977. Prices (USD) appear to have gone up a bit since then. https://newenglandtrials.com/thetryalsshope/

Hi, I am on my second Cota 349 build (for my sins) and this one has really gave me a head spin. The engine has just been rebuilt and all I needed to do was connect the electrics and that was it, job done... Er no chance! Brand new points, condenser, stator check(good), new coil, new plug cap and new plug, but no spark. Coil on frame had a very good earth with no paint in between, all engine mounts have good earth as well. Can anyone on here throw me a bone to what I might have to do to get a spark please?
