I have just had the axle dismounted - damn, it was a bit of a job getting in again. had to loosen the whole engine! Now it is cleaned from grease, and re-greased. The holes for the grease pump is cleaned. How much do I tighten the axle? If i tighten too much it get stuck. I have tightened it so that it can move just freely. So my questions are: 1) How much shall it be tightened? Is there an exact torque value or is it just by feeling? 2) Is there a drawing, picture or a spares fice somewhere on WWW so I can see how the swinger bearings are build up?

  3. Just went out for a ride with my TL.NW 320 yesterday and the bike "performend" very well. But there is one problem I believe I have, the rear shocks - still the Girlings - are let's call it very soft, they have a little bit too much sag I believe, (and my weight is 70kg). They a superb for small bumps and absorbing well but I have noticrd that they lack progression. So I have now two possibilities: #1 Repair the Girlings, any Idea who can do this? #1.1 Repair the Girlings which will take weeks or months and additional get a replacement #2 Replace the shocks. There are two brands that came up to my mind here: the Falcons and the NJB Trixshocks, but which one to ch…

Hi all. In the process of "trying" to remove the barrel for a re-bore. The four long studs that go right through to the crank case are solid. Haven't been touched for decades. I have been regularly spraying them with wd40 & duck oil but so far no movement. A friend has suggested a hot air gun, which I haven't bought yet, is this the best way ? Any other suggestions ? Thanks Ross

Trying to get my bike working again. (Stolen / recovered) An air cooled Aprilia with Rotax engine. The flywheel has been spinning on the shaft after the woodruff key sherred. I think the crankshaft is ok, but the taper on the flywheel has suffered, question is does the keyway start from nothing, or has it been worn away by the crankshaft ? Anybody out there want to sell a flywheel, if required ? The wiring has all been pulled out but shouldnt be to difficult to reinstate. I've got the engine out, head off, but the barrel wont move. Of the 8 studs that secure the head 4 go through to the crankcase ? I've put release oil down and will leave it overnight. Is it best to …

Could someone please tell me what this thread size should be, my Jumbo currently has an unsightly M12 x 1.5 hex head bolt and nut fitted which will only screw in about 10 mm before it meets resistance. It's been messed up by a previous owner as the thread in the head looks awful, I would just like to return the thread to what it was originally either by re-tapping or helicoiling and then fitting a suitable socket head bolt to block it off. A couple of pics attached, Cheers.

I have e.mailed bikes@forcemotorcycles.com twice for prices, no answer. Is this the correct address ? Any other suppliers ? (Stevens Trials have a few bits, but not what I'm looking for.) Thanks Ross

  13. The reed induction 350 engine fitted to the SWM Jumbo and Armstrong 350 trials bikes was also used in some trail bikes I believe and possibly some motocross bikes as well. Does anyone know which other bikes used these engines? I think they were fitted in some Armstrong/CCM trail bikes but not sure which. I'm hoping to find a spare clutch cover but it doesn't have to have come from an SWM Jumbo engine, it can come from anything as long as it fits, I don't care if it doesn't say SWM on it. If I knew what other bikes these 350 engines were fitted to I could ring around some of the bike breakers and ask, but at the moment I don't know which bikes to ask about. Anyone got an…

I thought you SWM enthusiasts might enjoy a picture of my SWM project .The bike is a 1980 Tl 320 that was originally sold in England, imported to Califoria in the late 80's and found last year in a salvage yard in Montana. I have tried to replicate Bernie Schriebers last Factory TL320 before he started riding the Jumbo. My project incorporates all of the mods from the french Burgat article on this forum and everything I could see from the photos in Bernies' book "Observed trials". My only real change from the original factory bikes is a modified Pro Circuit Racing silencer that weighs about a fourth of what the original did. That and other weight reduction mods bring the …

Anyone out there know the SWM factory mechanics who wrenched on the Works bikes ? Might be interesting to pick thier brains about engine mods ,ect. Has anyone tried one of the flatslide carbs on a 320? Cheers ,Jim

  19. The TL 320 I recently purchased has no rear brake stay. The only thing that keeps the brake backing plate from rotating is the torque from the axle shaft nut. There don't appear to be any bolt holes indicating that a stay is missing, so I'm inclined to think that this is the way it was designed. Because every other bike I own has some sort of a stay to keep the backing plate stationary, the lack of such a stay on the SWM gives me concern. Is the torque on the axle shaft really the only way the backing plate stays in place? I also ask because I have some sort of drag on my rear wheel, and I wonder whether the extreme tightness of the axle shaft is causing the drag. Any t…

Its alot easier to change the timing by opening/closing the points, rather than taking the flywheel off and moving the back plate. But, is there any reason not to do it this way ? Thanks
