Here's a photograph, never published before, of a classic Aprilia in action. Taken by James Moorhouse it shows Ian Weatherill competing in the Yorkshire Centre Team trial in 1986. Enjoy - for more details PM me

Can anyone help me? My 1988 Climber was reving very high. So I suspected an air leak. I replaced the flywheel side crank oil seal, and found a little bit of play in the main bearing that side. Now it only seams to want to run on choke, and still revs quite high. Any suggestions? I was wondering about the carb boot the that goes into the side casing??

Any source for Aprilia TXR312 rear sprocket? Does anyone know if the later model Aprilia Climber rear sprockets are the same as the TXR. Trials Shop here in the US is still on back order. All I need to get my TXR going.

After finally getting my '93/'94 Climber 280 rebuilt on Monday. The clutch is slipping like crazy. Post build I noticed gear oil weeping from the kick start/gear shaft seal so Martin at SWM Moto sorted my out. after rebuild number 3 the clutch slips terribly. Prior to this it had 10W40 in it. It now has ATF. I gave also replaced the clutch top basket as one of the fingers was missing. Nothing else has changed. any help or comments please, I'm baffled!

  6. Anyone have a source for these in the USA? PN 932 501 -- Ball Bearing Mag Side 6206 TNH C3 and PN 232 750 -- Ball Bearing Clutch Side 3205 C3 and PN 932 904 -- Needle Cage Bearing 18mm x 22mm x 22mm Would also like to find breaker points and condenser. Any leads or substitutions would be appreciated . Trying to get this ready for Vintage this spring. I can find 6206 C3 bearings, but not with the TNH which I think is a poly race or retainer. Thanks, Dave

Hey good people of the forum. '93 Climber: stripped out the forks tonight as part of a full rebuild, the left side stanction chrome is very very badly worn. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced company that can re chrome it or will it be cheaper to buy another set of forks....if I can find any? cheers Graeme

  8. I must be a sucker for an old dog. Recently got my 290 Sherco bucket of bolts going and I've come across a 1992 280 Aprillia climber that needs a bit of TLC. It starts and runs but only on the choke. I've cleaned out the carb, swilled out the tank and put fresh premix in. The carb and airbox rubbers are sealed tight and it's got a new plug BP5es. I should say the bike has stood for a long while. Any ideas from the good people of TC?

I purchased a '92(?) Aprilia Climber 280 (purple tank and yellow fenders) a while back and found out that I need to replace the piston, rings, O-rings, wrist pin bearing and some other parts. I haven't been able to find much. Mike at the Tryals Shop in NY was very helpful but even he gave up trying to find pistons. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Otherwise, it's going to have to be sold as a parts bike.

I recommissioned a climber 280 a few months back, and it starts and runs ok. I'm more into enduro and figure the climber would be fun for some lite enduro as i'm too old to start learning how to ride over cars etc I'm concerned about snapping the kick start off, the compression is fierce, and the motor too. i'd be happy to tone it down a bit and i think people have done this in the past. My neighbour has suggested make a plate form 3mm copper to go in between the head and the barrel. the water channels and O'rings make this a bit of a challenge. has anyone else done this, or know how it was done in the day ?

  11. Started by ffman,

In tandem with my other post on reducing compression, i read that some people also reduce the flywheel weight to make the engine more responsive. as i think i intend to do light enduro on it, this would be better. i see the flywheel is a multipart item. any advice on how to set about this ?

The Marzocchi "Duo-Shock" on my bike works as a great spring retainer...but little else. I was told this shock was the same as the Marzocchi on the Fantic 305, but it isn't. Different lengths (Fantic is longer) and different bottom mount (clevis type on the Aprilia.) I can't find a Marzocchi part number for the shock so I can't search for a rebuild kit. Checked with Mike at the Tryals Shop and he has no rebuild kits or shocks in stock. Anybody know where you can buy a rebuild kit for it? I have at least a couple of shops locally who can install it and charge the shock. Alternatively...anybody know of a replacement shock manufacturer? I've seen some "Wilber…

I want to know if anyone has a list of parts that might cross over with other bikes or possibly even cars. I have started a list and have the rear wheel bearings and seals in there. I would like to know if the temp sending unit crosses over, any of the rotors swap out with other bikes, you know stuff like that. We can post it for all to see since parts are getting harder to come by. This is my first trials bike and am loving it, if I want to keep it running and maintained we will need to know where to get parts. I have seen it done with other older bikes and it works good. People rallied after Excellsior Henderson went out of business in 2000 and created a parts lis…

  15. Hello everyone! Im new to this forum but excited to join. I'm planning on putting a new con rod bottom bearing into my 92' climber, but i have a few questions to those who are familiar with the bike. Looking to confirm some questions as well! thanks for any and all tips and information! much appreciated 1. Whats the best way to get the clutch nut off? the just spins freely with the screw mounts behind the pressure plate. It's on there good.. will a vice grip clutch tool do the job? 2. What are the measurements for the flywheel puller? 3. Anyone know the measurements or size for the bottom connecting rod bearing? i know the top, just not the bottom one. …

Ok, continuing from my previous post. Thanks to a top man on this very here TC, I've got myself a left side crankcase (Cheers Ross). My question is about setting the disc valve timing. Where does the valve sit in relation to TDC and which way round does it sit? Never been into a disc valve motor before. Cheers Graeme

100% newbie, but old. Just bought a old April Climber, site-unseen; had delivered. Bike seems mostly okay, but the rotors are rusty & pitted. The rear brake does not work well at all. The hydraulics & pads are good and seem to be contacting ok. Should I consider getting the rotors turned or is rusty okay, as the seller insists? Thanks.
