So, in addition to the front fork issue, I now need to strip out the rear shock. Again, I cannot find any information about this unit and the only identifier is the Aprilia logo in the lower aluminium casting. It looks a little like a Paioli unit, but cant be sure. Does anyone have anything useful that might help me? I am assuming that the shaft needs a pair of aluminium split blocks clamped to it to remove the end fork. There are no lock nuts anywhere and additionally there is no link between the rebound adjuster ring and the rebound adjuster rod that runs through the damper shaft. Ideas please but not on a postcard.....

Hi all, I stripped down the forks of a 1993 Climber I am restoring to find a problem. As I have been unable to find any parts listing that shows the broken bit, I thought I should ask here. I have attached a photo for clarity. Also if anyone has any written (as in workshop info) relating to Foral forks, as fitted to Climbers until the last version in 1994, when Marzocchi's were used, I would be very grateful. Steve

So further to my earlier post, I acquired a climber 280 cheap as it had been standing for a while and possibly messed about with, or stuck in a shed due to a fault. The clutch appeared seized, not a great surprise if its been sat around, so I stripped it and checked it over and all seemed good and free and clean. However, when I reassemble it, its locked solid. the clutch actuating arm moves and you can feel the springs against it, but you can't disengage it. after hours of fiddling about I tried assembling it with only 2 weak springs (cross flow rocker shaft spacing springs), and then it works ok but obviously not with the engine running. So I measured my spr…

I bought a climber 280 cheap for some fun and before I fire it up I thought I would change the oil. I found a woodruff key stuck to the magnetic sump plug which is a worry. So maybe that's why it was laid up and cheap ? I see from page 14 of the manual attached there is a woodruff key each side of the crank. In the picture the clutch/carb is nearest. The key the other side must hold the flywheel though its not shown, and I guess this is the dry side, so if they was in the oil it must be the clutch side ? Any thoughts. How do I get the pesky clutch main nut off - is there a trick, maybe jamming the chain ? thanks 242ccet282ccTLAprilia1994.pdf

I just acquired cheaply a bike the seller says is a 1991 Climber 260. Its needs a few bits and apart from ebay where else is best for info on these ? I need:- spark plug carb seat tank Seat and tank for 280s are cheap enough on ebay, will the 280 stuff fit a 260 (if indeed it is) ? What make and model is the carb ? Whats the recommend premix, like a 40:1 with a decent synth 2 stroke oil ? I figure this bike will be some fun in addition to the ensure bikes I have.

I am new to the group, and own a climber 240. I am having trouble with the install of the kickstart return spring assembly. Is there someone who can help me with this? I am not sure how the retaining bolt on the bottom of the motor holds anything? I assemble the clutch cover only to start the motor and have the kickstart gear click against the clutch gear once the return spring pushes its gear out against it...... is there a utube on the install? defeated......

A guy at our club asked me about testing the cooling fan on his 92 Aprila. I haven't seen the bike but he says there are three wires going into the fan and a single wire thermal switch. What is the best means to check if his fan is working? Can you direct me to a electrical schematic or tell me which wires to jumper across? Thanks for the help.

Hi, I'm new to trials riding and have just bought an Aprilia Climber 280 1994. I'm not sure if this was a great move because I can't find an owners manual for it. Can anyone advise me on where I can source one or give me advice on oil capacities, grades and service information i.e. plug gaps etc... Any info would be gratefully received! Many thanks
