Bultaco

  1. Started by trialsrfun,

My Bultaco 199A has had an alloy petrol tank from new, most of the similar 199A bikes that I have seen have a plastic tank fitted as did many of the previous model red Bults & the 340. Was the alloy tank an option or was it only fitted to certain models?

Has anyone tried fitting a flat slide Mukuni 28mm carby to a Sherpa T? I ordered one and would like to know what to expect. Anything to watch out for as far as tuning, throttle control, etc?

Hi, I have a Sherpa 340, which I'am rebuilding, the bike is in a let's call it good condition beside of some parts. One of the main issues are the side cases where some alumium of the embelms are broken off, (can be fixed with fluid / kned metal). My concerns are the impacts that are visible and caused cracks on both side cases. I searched already E-Bay, dealers worldwide for gettimg replacement cases, but did not found any. Here are some pic's of the cases outside: Now the problem inner sides, (the cracks to the clutch side are not so good visible (only one of three!): As visible the case structure on both sides is weakend a lot. I could by a second bike …

I have just bought a 1970 Matador 250 with the forks and yokes missing. Can anyone tell me what size of forks this model should have? and do forks from any other Bultaco models fit and if so will the Matador front wheel fit OK? Thanks, Jonny.

  7. Hello all, I ordered a Mikuni 28mm flat slide carby for use on a Sherpa T 250. Anyone have any comments/observations on how well this will work on a Sherpa? Any tips for proper adjustment? Will I be able to use the existing throttle cable with it? I'm saving the original Amal 627 for authenticity, but I have not been able to resolve an off-idle problem with it, and decided to just replace with something more modern. I like to stay original, but I also want to ride! Thanks.

Hi, this is my first post so I beg forgiveness if I am posting incorrectly. I have recently acquired what I believe to be a Sherpa 199A. It is at present a non-runner and many parts appear to be missing. Does anybody know where I can obtain exploded illustrations or parts lists for this model? I am particularly interested in the rear hub, hub spacers, wheel aligners and the swinging arm spindle areas of the bike. Any help would be very much appreciated

Can anyone supply a drawing or picture of the clutch operating rod on the model 10. Been onto Bultaco UK without success. Engine/gearbox unit is now rebuilt. Just short of the rod and the screwed plug that gives access to adjust the clutch. Any help at all most welcome. Thanks Tikka65

Hello, I've been told that my M91 Sherpa T (250cc) is a fairly rare machine, especially here in the US. If so, what makes it so rare, and does anyone know approximately how many of them were made? My frame & engine serial number is 91-000620. Any particular quirks to watch out for on this model, difficult parts to find, etc? I hope to have it back in vintage competition next season after a 30+ year hiatus!

Spotted a low use 1999 Bultaco Sherco 250 in my price range, seems to have been stored for 10 years and only used for 1 year, bit worried about perished seals due to storage but any major faults with thse bikes? Are they notoriously difficult to ride for a learner (me) etc? And any other thoughts? Thanks Couple of pics :

Is it feasible to convert a 159 to right foot brake acceptiing there may be some loss in braking power? I just find it more instinctive having ridden left foot gear change all my life and still riding on the road, I think I'm just too old to re-tune my brain and have enough to concentrate on in a section rather than which foot to press!!

Hi all, Could anyone tell me should there be some sort of seal/rubber betwwen the rear exhaust section and the middle silencer on a 78 Sherpa. If not what stops gasses leaking from that joint. My bike leaks from there but because I am out of country I havent had a chance to strip it yet. It would be handy to know so I can order parts ready for when i get home. Cheers Marty

Hi to all, Just recently acquired a Bultaco 250 1978 198 and to be honest I dont have a great deal of experience or knowledge of the bike. Hopefully with time this will improve. My question is a simple one really, could some one give me the fuel/2 stroke oil ratio that I should be running with this bike. I have read 20:1 in an old manual, is this correct? Please forgive such a simple question. Many thanks. Marty Dunn

Has anyone seen this before... When I start my newly acquired 198 Sherpa 250 (pig to start) the throttle sticks on three quarter throttle until the engine warms up, then it's fine - ticks over nicely. I decided to investigate and noticed the carb slide on the intake side has a circle of sticky black goo on it (presumably becomes less sticky when warm). I then went further and removed the head and barrel and the same sticky black goo is coating the intake side of the piston. The bike has a tank of fresh fuel mixed at 40:1, so my question is 'what is causing this build-up of oily goo?' Bike has good bore and piston and has been converted to electronic ignition. Any advic…
