European Trials

Known for aircooled models , in an almost last gasp of breath both Mecatecno and Merlin produced prototype water cooled trials bikes , desperately trying to keep up with the machine evolution . Only brief recollections of the Merlin prototype is recorded anywhere . Practically nothing was written, all was forgotten and the whereabouts of the bikes were completely unknown. Then a friend and avid collector in Spain stumbled across them both in the space of 1 year......and has added them both to his collection. Since then he's researched them both a little more. Just on the off chance someone out there might be interested. The Easter weekend 15 th 16th April we are organising a classic trial here in the best bit of the Dordogne. Just a few km's from Sarlat, 20 sections of fantastic quality, with a ride round of 20 odd km's. Might even be an excuse to get away, you won't be disappointed. We will accept modern bikes for over 40 riders.. all non stop. Camping is avaliable from Friday until Monday with toilets, and an evening Saturday night meal is arranged to help empty the French wine lake. Further details available by PM

Can anyone suggest any websites or clubs that I can contact as a group of Southern middle aged clubman would like to wobble and fall off around Southern Belgium later in the year? Somewhere in the Ardennes or Namur etc would be good.

A very nice 2 day event

Just got my first trials bike and wondering if anyone lives in the Limousin that wants to meet up for rides. Or if anyone has any leads of a local club I can join, can't find a lot of info on the internet.

Hi, I'm looking at riding in the Ventoux Classic trial in the south of France in October. Due to a severe lack of holidays left at work for the year, the only way I'm going to be able to do it is by saving time travelling by flying over. Obviously this means I will have no bike! I just thought it would be worth asking if anyone was travelling over for this comp from the UK, or knew anyone that was, that might have room for another bike in their van in exchange for some help towards their travelling costs? Fingers crossed!

How can I find out about French trials,I hear they have several 2 day events and a 4 day. Anybody know how to find regs and dates etc please. Thanks

Entries are now open for the above event which is based in the Italian ski resort of Bormio. Sections are ok but the run round the Alps each day is absolutely fantastic. Stick Tre Giorni Valtellina into Google for the regs and get yourself there. Lots of video footage from previous years on YouTube

Whilst quite a while off, the dates have been set for the Classic trial in Mont Ventoux Provence for the 14th and 15 th October. Those who fancy a European adventure this comes highly recommended, for how it all works, and information please look at previous posts here over the last two years. Regs normally come out around the end of July, and its advisable to get in early with entry and booking accommadation .

Following on from another thread, my club here in the best part of the Dordogne , near to Sarlat are organizing a classic Pre 65 / Twinshock trialing day 1st May. Anybody on holiday from the Uk able to fit and load up the bike rack without other halfs noticing and also any Spanish chums who would like and fancy a real good day in the French countryside you are welcome to come along. Twenty sections over a Saturday afternoon and Sunday, as many laps as you fancy. There will be a very modest entry, fish and chip van on the day and if numbers allow a Saturday evening meal to help empty the French wine lake. This will put me into Luxembourg City at after she gets out of work. My name sake is Dutch and I have been to Holland when I was a kid so I have no need to see the sights. Ok it's a long drive unless you have a friend in Spain to lend you a bike. But I rode the 2 Days Trial Encamp last weekend, fantastic trial, really recommend it. Single lap each day of 20 sections, yes that's not that many but it takes around 7 hours each day as it's a long way round. If you have ever ski ed in Andorra the first day is based on the ski slopes of Soldeu and Pas de la Casa. To make the trip worthwhile contact Sandra Bonet, this lady provides accomodation a few km from the start and also does trials excursions. So you could do a few days practice / trail riding in the pyrenees followed by the trial.
