Just that really has any one tried these shocks yet, what do you think of them.
-
Thanks Subira I now have it running well, there seemed to be some debris within the carb but the airline has dealt with it.
-
Nearly there with the Cub have had it running but it is not right.
It is fitted with the Del-Orto carb but to start it needs the throttle open with the choke on, when the choke is released the engine dies.
Can any one tell me have you had to change to any different jet sizes etc in these carbs or alter anything, also what jets, cutaway etc did your carb come with.
Thank you in advance for any help.
-
Had a (several) good looks at it at the show yesterday and to my eye it makes all of the other currently available four stroke trialers look big and heavy by comparison.
Beta have certainly done some serious work to bring out this bike it will be interesting to see one in action.
Steve Saunders says he cannot wait to get his one and try it out.
-
Picked one up yesterday at the show so have only had time to glimpse through and look at some pics, what do I think of it well in a word SUPERB.
Good luck to all involved with it maintain the quality of this first issue and I think you are on to a winner.

Graham Jarvis on the Sherco could ride up a vertical ice rink floor (if we could find him one) but I think Neo is right not enough riding time, not enough forward motion & too little determination after all on a good day if you think you can clean something you will.
It is all in the head ???

Interesting topic this one and without wanting to start the 2t/4t arguement I do wonder where Honda might have finished in the WTC this last couple of years had they not had the top riders Doug/Fuji & Laia.
I also think that at world level the sport needs Yamaha with their Scorpa connection as well as Suzuki & Kawasaki.
Going back to the HRC trials bikes the 4RT does seem to be much nearer the production bike you or I can buy than anything Honda supplied to their works riders previously be it two or four stroke.

Thank you Big John & Greeves for the information it looks like Frontera footrests are the way to go.
Greeves to lower the footrests the existing brackets must be removed and replaced but is there enough space to move them rearwards as well, do you please have a photo of the new footrest bracket that you could put on here.
Off topic but did you see the information regarding the Villiers gearing in P65.
-
Seem to recall reading somewhere that Bultaco Frontera footrests can be fitted to the 199a, what is the difference between these and the std footrests and do they fit straight on without alteration.
-
Hello Greeves sorry I missed your post but have a look in the p65 column at the James question asked by OTF I hope the information there is of some help.
If you send me your frame number I may well be able to pinpoint the model/year etc.
-
Going back to the Honda (very nice too Big John) I thought the long stroke models had a wet sump engine derived from a trail bike where as the 306 short strokes were dry sump or lubed from the gearbox.
Did the short stroke engines used by the works riders not suffer from overheating problems ?
just something I seem to recollect.
There was a short stroke Honda on display at the Malvern show a couple of years ago very similar to the Norman Sheperd bike pictured earlier with the slab sided engine and high up gear shaft.
Why did they not sell the ones we really REALLY want to own.
-
I have a Motoplat unit fitted to my bike and it is good, I have no personal experience of either of the two systems you mention but I think the one Simon sells uses the Villiers flywheel which is good because the ring weight fitted to the trials flywheel really strengthens up the bottom end power, maybe worth asking about the magnetism in the old flywheel though.
Race Engineering may also be making an ignition system based on the PVL unit as fitted to BSA/Triumph etc.
I did try the lower third and did not like the jump from 3 to 4 but in the Villiers box there are two trials thirds, 32a & 37a the lower 37a one is fitted to mine both of these are much higher than the Nametab option but I do not think it really matters which you have so try what is in there now.
Which cylinder and carb are you going to fit ?
-
Lots of choices for the gearing Otf I agree with retaining the std crank sprocket, a 17t is available but needs a split link and half link in the std chain, milling off the gearbox face enables a 16t crank sprocket to be fitted again with the std primary chain but without the half link, in my experience the standard primary chains stretch and wear very quickly and are a bit suspect when worn or running slack.
With the std 20t crank sprocket fitted a heavier duty primary chain is available from Nametab this does not stretch in trials use and in my opinion is a must fit item.
Assuming you have a trials box to start with fit a 13t rear sprocket (428 rear chain size) with a 62t rear wheel sprocket.
Two lower seconds are available from Nametab a one cog (a special way of cutting the gear) or better still the two gear pair, this will mean removing a very small amount of alloy from inside the gear case but this will not harm anything Simon at Nametab will explain.
A lower third is also available but then you can have a big jump up to 4th and the std third is great for between section going.
Have you a good ignition fitted because the Villiers can be a right pain if the spark is iffy ?
Which type of James frame have you got and is it going together ok ?
Hope some of this helps good luck with the build.
-
Good choice hope you have lots of pleasure riding it.
Trying the various models is ok but you have to ride several events to really get used to a bike in different types of section etc.
I have often wondered when looking at the bikes for sale in tmx if Beta sell more 270s or if people just move them on more frequently but there are always more big ones for sale than the other capacitys put together.
-
Olwhittyone I presume you mean the Man 17 event at Haslin, I could not make it as I was working but my friend was there on the 200 Beta amongst the GG majority and going rather well I believe.
The thing is with a Beta there is very little thats visible to say what size the engine is.
-
A good mate has the 06 200 I have the 250 and there aint a lot in it, the 250 feels as though it pulls a bit stronger, the 200 a maybe a bit zippier but really there is so little difference it is hard to tell.
Previously my friend had a 250 (not a Beta) and he much prefers the 200 Beta and he always claims it grips better than anything else.
One last thing the Beta 200 is 200cc just like it says on the tin, other 200s are not and as they say Stateside there just aint no substitute for cubes, so do you still want a 270 ? why not blag a ride on them all and then decide.
-
Hamster you really need to find out exactly where the problem is you could start by holding the bike by one handlebar end and rock it side to side very quickly this should show which end of the bike is loose. It could be the head bearings as R2W says or loose engine mount bolts or anything else really so try and find where the problem is then there will be lots of helpful advice on TC.
Let us know what you find.
-
Good point Judd perhaps the change to a non-championship trial will make for a more open event.
We got our tickets the week they went on sale, I was nearby on business so could call at the box office and avoid the dreaded booking fee.
I would like to see the big screen back this time somehow there is always something happening on the other side of the arena/bike/section or wherever just out of sight so Sheffield how about the BIG screen again.
-
This might be old news or even just a rumour but I have heard that the Sheffield Indoor at the end of December has international status but is not a World Round, is this correct and if this is the case why and just who might be riding in it.
-
What grade of plug are you using with the PVL/Del-Orto set up on a 199cc Cub
-
thanks fellas, I am geting the correct one ? for the Cub but wondered if anyone had made any changes to the standard set up
I suppose there will be differences due to air cleaner and exhaust etc that is what prompted me to ask
-
Does anyone know the jet sizes, slide cutaway etc that best suit a 199c trials cub fitted with a Del-Orto carb.
PVL ignition will be fitted what is the best timing position to start with.
-
No could not make it this time but maybe next year ?
There is much more there than just a trial and you get to meet lots of people from all over the country and further afield, it all makes for a good day out so definitely worth it at least once.
-
OTF did you make it to the Bonanza ?
-
Hello OTF, the Bonanza is a great event 13 sections ridden three times.
Sometimes a bit of a wait at a couple of sections but not much of a problem really, one of those trials that is much better when the going is drier so this year should be perfect.
It is normal to pre-enter a phone call might get you a late entry but you would not get your name in the programme.
Stay for the evening quad and grass track racing it is worth it.
Overall a good event (it is much much more than just a trial) only trouble is this year I cannot make it.
