Since you are doing Engine work, the engine is basically the same as the 90 something thru o3? TXT's, I think you could use this parts breakdown, http://www.gasgas.com/Pages/parts-book/parts-home.html
I can't find it on my machine at work so sorry did see the 01's .PDF on gasgasmoto.es
I have no idea about a manual, because the only manuals you got with bikes, was a VHS tape. I have one for like 95-99 bikes, I might be able to convert to CD or DVD, then to downloadable ISO image (I havent done this yet before but I have the SW to do so). It would take me a while though, Im away for a 2 day in 2 hrs, so it would be next week before I can start on that and would depend on time I have so little of .
-
yeah,
if anything you got a bike you just need to make sure you keep the bike in good working order, like fasteners tight (as already told) oils changed, make sure you get that clutch lever adjusted for yourself, the previous owner should have set it for his liking...
Routine Maintenance places I watch: airbox, shock linkage (looking for slop or slap & dry dogbone bearings), occasionally spokes- you ding em they should 'ping', chain, tire pressure, and oil levels and changing them every so often (forks too).
-
Thanks STU. Im up in the air about the supersoft leather too, pinched my foot a couple times now where i wouldnt have with the old ('78 -80's) old style Sidi boots, you recall them dont ya, had like 14 buckles in each boot? hehehe my kid was using my mother's pair (size 8 mens boot ya know almost like new but 30 years old) anyhow he looked at his boots one day (long after the gift-ness of them wore off) and then mine, smiled one of those tongue in cheek things, and went "Awe crap, I got 10 minutes of buckling to do yet..."
-
So tell us, What was the experiment about? I mean I know some people replace a perfeclty good coffee table when it suits them, but I digress...
Example, you thought the Garne sole was ________<softer, harder, lighter> or maybe the boot leaked?
I have some 3year old Hebo's I ride close to 3 times a week for at least an hour when I can... more some weeks. I dont think I need soles yet. But I would love to try other boots. Everything Hebo does is apparently built for Raga, Built for skinny sh*t, instead of like me, Im under-tall, and cannot buckle the top buckle on my 45's.
the boots look good in the pic. I sure do know I need to re-mink oil mine. last pair of boots I owned I had them for nearly 25 years, lol. Yeah they are pretty shot, but better than nothing if that was all you had.

To JAM...
You got your heart set on the new bikes? Well, I would heartily suggest finding one fine older example TXT era (99-02) machine IMHO. get yer skills up, then get a pro. BTW, nothing bad about new, but the TXT's were lots more indestructible, plus *trail* ridable, and IMHO closer to the bikes you used to ride (rtl)... yet they really are relatively competitive up easily to intermediate & expert levels. Anywho... You know the saying, the master rider can beat me (you) on an oooold ty250 on most days, so it seldom is the bike holding you back in trials.
It is just a suggestion, I came from expert class last ride in '83, was on a 79 Sherpa-t. The 321 was awesome for me gave me some Sherpa familiar power and stuff, with the new tech & suspension to learn.
But if you are a master lever rider (or was) maybe then by golly you will adapt quickly to the new bikes, It took me a few months. BTW I have a Pro 300 now, they seem wicked (scary) for about the 1st 10 rides, after that you'll telling yourself, "Self, why didn't I start with this bike" hehehee but the answer was, because you and your skills were the only holdup...
it is all about getting used to it. The 300 made me re-learn how to control the bike, now I actually use the part that scared me at 1st, and love it.

Thanks Wayne,
Looks like Lewis sport has it!
-
Hey Wayne,
I pray you didnt think I at least looked at a few sites starting at sherco's site, RYP, tryals shoppe, dallans, even trialspartsusa.com, and other sites before I asked for help...
ABout RYP: What is a complete line of accessories? that mean if no exhaust guards to be found there, they do NOT exist?
Maybe I just missed the link?
-
Hey all you Sherco dudes,
My buddy bought a 01 290. But it really needs a pipe guard for the headpipe, not so much about protecting anything but burning his Butt {more like leg} anyway, Oh, and did they have one or something on the bottom of the silencers, where it does burn your thigh? {close to BUTT}
I know who to call for gas'r stuff, dont know about Sherco, let alone if anyone made anything for them?
Still I would appreciate any info and suggestions, that pertain to finding these Sherco parts, that is

ya know I have a whole bunch of clips of kids, I think from someone posting links to them here or back when here was TA? it was from same site with Sendero working his a*** off for a 3 video...
anyway, I seem to have bunch of small clips, I could prolly bundle up and send via email. I havent gotten these to my house yet. so email me I send during the day.

took a few weeks off readin the boards, wow lost track.
Well here you go...
I have an 04 300 pro, dad has one, longer than I have. we've both broken 1 kicker each. I have had them both welded, for spares via local shop that tigs pretty well, by lookin at the work anyway. His broke just as I got my bike. welded it to get by, then put welded one into box (it also started to bend from hard starting?).
When mine broke, we had only the welded spare at the time so I used that welded spare for a while, like a month or so of lots of rides every night, and I was having trouble with the float needle I didn't find. I put new one in spare box for a while (goes anywhere the bike goes). It (the welded one) did break just as I found the starting problem for my bike (in other thread)...
So the welded one didn't last too bad, I discovered the bolt may have been loose so keep checking that bolt... the other one we had the guy beef it up more than original & straightened the one from dads bike. there is some room, on the outside & front of it where it broke. So I have my new one on, 2 welded spares in the box. US $125 or so, for these dang kick-levers, since you cant get just that lever part that breaks by itself,
Someone at GG PuH-lease tell me why you can get the frigging indestructible metal block part separately, (looking at parts pdf it looks like you can?) but not the part that breaks?
it is NOT laughable... it is like having to buy the whole Dang break master cylinder to replace a broken lever, or reservoir cap...
-
Posting on this thread to suggest any of those experiencing this problem in the Pro models....
GOing back to my thread about the float needle, I fought hard starts (hot and cold) and a bunch of wierd running (but seemingly slight) problems, the fix was a new float needle...
The bike was starving for gas as it seems my early 04 300 Pro, Mine came with a spring loaded float needles that I assume were a bad batch. When the replacement shows up, it is completley solid version...
the spring loaded part was undoing itself from the main part of the needle, thus closing the fuel off in the carb completely (was the final symptom on mine anyway) until that failure stoped my bike cold and was finally forced me to figure what the problem was, the bike ran like hell slowly getting worse and lean on Loop runs... Hard to start at anytime, even warmed up.
On mine, we replaced this part, it is like a whole new bike, starts easy now, especially warm. was minimum 5 kicks cold, now usually 2.
Your Milage May Vary, but IMHO is worth looking at.

May not apply to the crowd that is NOT in the USA, but there is NOT a ban on 2strokes here in the USA, and must be same over there, I mean Evinrude is a world market I assume? Anyway they state there is not now or future a ban on 2strokes as I read... only emisions on Combustion engines. Read on if you goto, Evinrude.com (outboard motor MFG if you didnt know). Even recently I have seen these, and They have aired commercials about their new FI 2stroke that is cleaner than the 4strokes and all that for outboards, and as we know 50%-80%? more torque and HP per cc... Yeah so selling points and all that aside, if they say were building 2 strokes for the forseeable future, so it seems to be a point to that being possible anyway?
So maybe Gasgas has realized that instead of re-engineering into 4strokeness, they only have to clean up emmisions a bit and keep the 2's on selling?
would seem wise to me.
-
You guys are the best, ya know...
R2wtrials, That is Mine exaclty, just like your pic... I should post pics of the bruising, lol but ya'll would find a different cure, as did the GF...
I called my 'dealer' today, said they are breaking on everyone (stock 05 units, and expensive as hell too.
so Im gonna try plan 2, the Scorpa Bar pad...
oh well...
-
Ok,
Try to keep this one short. Yeah I could call a dealer or something, but dang he's not in today... So.... think Ill Axe about it on here, 1st.
Once again 04-300 Pro bike...
I have the 'aftermarket' fat-bars (pro taper?) on here, no I cannot recall who's brand? ATM I think they are HEBO, maybe they ain't? But it was before Gasgas did it... As you might guess since it was a conversion, It came with funky clamps, they have really sharp edges where bolts go in... (bought the bike with these already installed and I love the bars lots, BTW)
Ok I'm hitting my 'gut' (or Belly) on these to dang much, and its pretty bad bruises. Sure, I could get a pad, but also see none that I like (green on gasgas {usa's parts site} Yuck, give me a break...)
I haven't started looking at the breakdowns of the 05, but in the pictures... their new clamps look like I would be much much less wounded by these... But do I have to have something like special top fork triple clamp? as i see only one bolt per side holding the bars, but what holds the clamps to Triples?
TIA guys...
-
Hmmm.
Seems to be still a concensus on here and or other places where ideas and opinions are exchanged, that the original carbs suck, hmmm. I would think the 05 "might" been a selling point, updated carb? Maybe in 06 then?
Oh well, about my GG bashing or 'ranting' which I would prefer to call it... isn't it that, at least a little bit, what a BBoard is for?
I have stock 'timing' and personally for my level of riding, dont want to 'quicken' this bike any, IMHO. Now I say that for an honest opinion from you, when you say "best" thing I can do, are you of the opinion that a quickly-hard-hitting tuned engine is 'da-bomb' or maybe you aer a master rider?
If no, you like just a good smooth running machine... then maybe soon I can find me one of them cabs somewhere. Right now I have no $$ to play with, because I'd rather have the little bit to attend the meets, you know.

Thought I should update with info I have gleaned from getting my new needle and seat into the bike yesterday
and ask outloud...
Ordered the replacement needle and seat, GUESS WHAT?
I recieved it, the needle is (now) a solid unit!?!?!?! kewl but hmmmm
however it was about 1/2 - 3/4'ths of a milimeter longer lenght overall needle (only if you compare to completely compressed needle I had though... SO float 'hanger' arms, are they supposed to be prefectly level, when carb is upside down (needle is seated?) or hmmm anyone have thiers apart lately and notice?
Oh and BTW damn thing was 25 bucks? Oh well, it was just higher than I ever figured, I hear the damn gastanks are only about 50 bucks... So oh well. old cobblled up one is now a spare... (for now)
Ok, so what else on this damn thing am I going to find out, was a weakspot or a problem & that they quit building them with this part or that part? Suppose this is EXACLTY why everyone wanted the kehin carb upgrade so badly? Bike runs great again.
Shal anyone keep a list of post production UPGRADES somewhere on the 'net' boyz? Link up if you have one already started? thanks
-
Hmmmm fuel injected 2 stroke, now that would be AWESOME!!!
anyway I know it was long winded, but stick it in the *you heard about it* drawer,
wow, to me this could be a reason SOME want the better 'carb'? Heck I was contemplating one, but dont need the power all wicked up!!!
IMHO, the bike is better now, I couldnt believe how much different it runs, even last night on the practice stuff I had been doing at home the last 2 months...
...if you cant be a good example, youwill have to be a HORRIBLE warning! Red Green
-
ROB,
If I had the money and the inclination to start trials today, I would buy the 300 if nothing else than my weight, if I was skinnier, I would want to get the smaller engine, that is MY OPINION, hope that helps... BUT the difference between 250-280-&-300 are soo small, only noticable in some circumstances really.
but, lets look at trials and enduro differences... In trials HP/engine size means Squat, literally...
you will have your ass handed to you by a 100lb 13 year old on an 80cc bike, long before you "need" or appreciate the 300 (say over the 250 version) IMHO.
All that you have with the 300 and a lighter weight rider, is a bike that may not "forgive" an error, unlike a lower, or maybe less-powered rig. Trials is about control, not HP or speed and it takes a mentality much like golf. you dont have to hit the ball that far, if you hit it right were you wanted it in the 1st place (like the fairway or the green).
-
Here is a $1000 (or pound at least in $ per hours labor to find) Sure someone here will say, I knew that...
FREAKY problem I had... cheap, fix it for pennies.
My 04 gasgas 300 Pro (main culprit is the carb anyhow so might be related... for others hard start or running funny?)
stock carb
I discoverd the cause just sunday morning at the 2 day event, after it finally left me stranded on saturday, far from the truck as possible...
Background...
I've suspected & concluded that I've had this problem seemingly off and on for months... Anyway my bike would run when warmed up, as if lean, but only slightly and only at higher revs, but was really only apparent at times like, longish road ride, or sustained hills, or like between sections which I dont do a lot of at home... But for the most part, regular riding in section was nearly fine if even noticable by me (Im only intermediate level rider anymore).
But in hindsight, this SOB was getting harder to start for last 2-3 months, and while riding events, walking sections, anything when it was warm, (sometimes cold too) and all of the traits were slightly, ever so slightly, getting worse all the time (to me this is another clue least for gasgas Pro model harder starting?) My dad has a twin to mine, always seemed less trouble to get started, PS because of this, I know contributed to I have broken my kicker too.
Pre Note: about the symptoms I describe, they were slight to aannoying in nature, didnt seem much more than what I read here and other places about GG Pro's... So take note about that as to why We couldnt find the problem right off...
Sometimes to more than not, when running, it was as if gas was shut, but not completely off, but leaked through enough to run lower engine speeds, but once reved up for long, it might have been starved. I had no idea what it was, hell wasn't ever as bad as it was this weekend on the long loop trails, but it has been a bug in my butt I was startig to worry about...
So even Dad, and later I took the carb apart looking for a problem, expecting dirt... none, and no problem could be determined, least by us... (2 independant experts right? LOL!!)
So, you know, put it back together it 'seems fine' or least ok... but next long ride... Im to the point, what XXX could be wrong? I thought I knew it couldnt be the carb at all... so then I started to suspect electrical (heat type of problems...) Like I said when cold it was not bad to get going, because the float bowl would fill up full most of the time...
But this weekend, it was finally dead, and I worked for a couple hours and finally trouble shooted it to NO GAS at all getting into the bowl... hmmm
6 times sat night, and 6 more on sunday trying to find the source... clean everything, even used toothbrush and towels to clean the float needle and in desperation, I even changed the fuel line, put carb back together (without bowl) gas would run through the seat just fine, put the bowl on, finger over bottom hole, no gas... hmmm. played with that float 'arms', springing just fine, everything seemed fine, fuel runs push up, now it stops! put bowl on, I can blow into carb, seems right, hook to tank, remove screw on bottom of carb, no gas...
Well, I finally got lucky... one more time I took it all apart, by now I was ready to set fire to the damn thing...
Well, Long story shortened, it was the Float's needle was coming apart. It has a pin in it, you know that is spring loaded. Anyway, the pin part that goes inside the needle (that you guys wont normally ever see) has a fat part that is crimped to catch it inside the float needle, so it can NOT come apart, well this time of looking at all of this and cleaning the needle and seat, the pin & spring popped out of the needle on me... IMHO, I was lucky as heck to find it !!
erm well sort of, I had nothing to replace it with... Lucky I was at the table at the time though & I had all the parts to that needle. But what to do? What I saw was, the factory crimp was not as good as it prolly should have been... and the pin was able to back out, while in the carb, to where it would stick half fell apart, I was now extra long and have the needle closing the seat.
For months, it might been able to "rattle" back into its place and the bike would run sort of fine, if the floats only let little bits of fuel in, like during section ride or what not. but long loop riding, where the floats had to drop lower, then it would catch, and as gas came in , it closed off the gas sooner keeping the level really low, til not any at all...
Well I had no spares day 2 was upon me, and I broke the factory crimp trying to re-cripm it closed like they did. Oh man I thougth I was done too... I had to compete in less than an hour. So luckily, I crimped the rest of that needle near this end, at least enough with my pliers(holding the spring Compressed fully) to where that spring loaded pin, no longer could move.
BTW the dang bike ran better than it ever has since I got it!.
I got spares now on order, or will have.
ping!!! Spinner
GLA you guys, Im posting this to GG part of the board right after this...

Not directed as much to Bwolfe, but anyone who knows... Help me with more info?
What does it cost to go get in and watch? I been wanting to go now for 3 years, I really hoped this could be the year, but you know haw it is I feel with gas skyrocketing, and I really am a tight-a***...
I personally wouldnt mind being a judge either, especially one day of what, 3? I would like to see more closer to my level, so the support classes is what I wanna see IMHO?
here's what I see, and what is holding me back...
gas from central KS- about 700 miles I bet?,
lodging for 3 days or 4?
lastly food, because you know nobody's into hambuger helper when you are staying in a motel far from home... LOL.
Lastly this... Do I really need to bother take a bike up for me? I mean, that is if I could judge for this guy, would I dare not to take one? No, im not really big on walking a *BUNCH of BUNCH*, but I have lots of practice shopping with the lil woman, she's one of those who can shop for 12 hours (without having to spend anything)...
I really think my lil buddy would love it too... (see picture here until they put up new ones...) http://www.avtatrials.com/images/BikesforSale/Josh_M1.JPG
suggestions?
thanks all

the TXT's (found by mistake) has a drain hole up front under the skidplate, I'm pretty sure in the crankcase area, I do assume for letting out water. Not sure about the pro's...
BUT, I dont know for absolute, I do know there is that plug for something, LOL because my bud went to drain tranny pulled out this one, and went "What the???" because of course nothing came out. plus it was a biotch to get back in because of the rubber mat between skidplate...
Does the bike you drowned, run Smoothly? I heard that if you dont do something ASAP when drowned, like as little as a day, your bearings get trashed... or can even cause crank damage?
if it were me, would wanna do something extra when I got back to the shop... So I was thinking maybe keep some of that outboard oil foggin 2stroke storage spray, that they recommend for storing outboards? they say keeps the cylinder oiled helps prevent stuck rings, so wouldnt it also 'charge' some oil into the bearings & stuff?
What you guys think?
YMMV...
-
Coflet,
what do you mean what did I buy? I had to have it... you know, not much use having a bike you cant start... Well, yeah I have had the other welded as a spare now, if it lasts for more than a week, then the new one will be a spare instead I guess.
Sure, this is one of those rant - nits to pick, that I needed to vent, and so I did... hoping I'd hear from others who felt the same way, even if not GasGas Specific...
BTW it is the second one we had to buy, in the family that owns 2 04 pro's... Dad broke his also, plus it is bent, because these dang things are miniumum of 4 kicks to get fired, consistantly. Yes, jettings have been done to some extent, Im gonna drill the hell out of the choker/enrichener jet I guess.
woody,
I have a buddy who makes decals for anything (like race cars), he helped some my other buddy, with ebay fender buying because you know yellow isnt the original colors of a 99 321... heheheee but anyway with the 2 (cheap) new yellow fenders and the original blue decal on the tank he was able to mimmik the sticker for the tank, of what the 321 would look like with the 200's colors
It Looks great IMHO. Helluva lot better than the broken fender I sold the bike to him with...
Of course none of that really matters to you guys that dont fall down, and or have lots of cash <joking>
or if you dont know or care that:
1. they get >95 bucks shipped, for the rear fender they are not the 2 piece) on the 99's, *if* they have one in stock,
2. the fact that they break like sugar cookies in the cold months...
-
Buy as an assembly only??? $150? (U.S.)
Wassup with this? You cannot buy the part that breaks....
Jeesus, I guess Im lucky I can buy the aircleaner, or the rear fender,
without buying the seat for these SOBs?
We got to get GasGas to pull thier head out... Wall of shame
maybe?
In case they (gasgas) are watching... I dont think even my 10 year
old :madsanta:, and a sledge can mess up the part, the metal piviot/shaft
mounting blocks, that comes with the part that I 'need' right now.
Thank you for letting me rant.
-
Hey gasgas,
I see you got some parts coming, hopefully you found the information (from gasgas, the dealers, and or other posts here maybe also) that the 02 pro's ...if I read everything correctly better check... anyway had orings that were installed that aparently would swell over time, with fluid in tranny. Apparently they figured this out either half way through the 02 assembly or least by 03. technically there is an update, I believe mostly the new material orings, but also aluminum case instead of ???...
IIRC, there is a note about this at least on the gasgas (usa site) in the tech articles, I believe, get the new type is all ya do there, so I doubt the fluid you used caused the problem, nor is the symptom of you or anything you did.
Note to others readin thread... anyone else notice the 05's use different part #'s for the metal plates in the 05 pros than did the 04? each plate seems to have new number? where as in 04 they all the same part #.
I sure as heck would like to know what they are attempting to solve? I would update my 04, if it has to do with dragging when clutch is engaged? but if just a slipping issue, I dont have that problem? Help me out guys?
P.S. due to errors, check my info PLEASE before you act... my CRS acts up because of the fact that I read A LOT of stuff every single day, on web or what not, manuals, because I am the computer geek here at work.
