  1. Good luck Sam, the cub swing arm you have is what a lot of Bantam guys fit (for rear tyre clearance) so you're off to a good start.
  2. Thanks gents, I was at a trial recently where Vesty was riding and his new bike is very nice - sounds very crisp! He's moved the top of the shocks forward like this picture but also moved the bottom forwards too (to the hold thats in the swingarm on 198/199B swingarms).
  3. Saw this and liked it. Anyone know what it is? Someones concept or does it exist? Looks like a "this is what a sherpa might have looked like by 1985".. http://www.flickr.com/photos/76022002@N08/8506871239/in/photostream
  4. Ive got a Mikuni and its very good, but Im not convinced its much better than a good (i.e. new or not worn) amal to be honest...
  5. I had a bult and the front brake was excellent. It had new shoes and a cast iron liner. I now have another bult with the original chrome plate and it is nowhere near as good. I think you need to get the cast iron liner to get a high performing brake. I also rode at a trial with ex world champ Mr Vesterinen recently - I noticed his front brake arma was longer than standard - looked about 1" longer - I guess this would give more force on the cams/shoes at the expense of a spongy feel mayeb..
  6. What oil in the clutch? Mine has new plates and heavy duty springs (from Rex Count) but still slips in 3rd and top....?
  7. Hi, Anyone any idea what the correct piston clearance is from new (in thousands of an inch)?? cheers
  8. Cota 200 - are they any good??
  9. Hi Craig, Colin Appleyards in Keighley are probably about 50 miles from Liverpool.
  10. Yes it can - air leak will make the engine run weak and overheat...I'd always change the seals if the mains need doing - no point not doing them as the cost is so low. I'd guess the plug will look lean if this is the case - should be a chocolate brown. Also check the ignition timing - should be 2.4mm BTDC for a 199 I think - if youve rebuilt it maybe the timing slipped or you set it wrong? Other causes could be fuel stavation or blocked exhaust - although both would cause drop in power which you didnt see. hope this helps
  11. Hi Pat, thanks. I sold the 190 but I bought a 198b...... Also scaling down as new house on the way. When do Brians trials re-start?
  12. Hi, I have a Bulto front hub which I thought to be Sherpa. I held it next to my Sherpa hub (198b) and its clear its slightly larger. The overall diameter of the large flange is about 194mm, the ID of the brake drum area is 140mm and the shoe width is 35mm (wider than my sherpa). The overall hub width and style is the same. Could it be an earlier one? maybe a trail bike hub? thanks for any help Stu
  13. I have had some for about a year, no complaints, they are great as far Im concerned. They dont crack (I have seen comments that Hebo do), they seem to be wearing well. The only thing I'd say is that they are quite soft leather and do mould to your feet, so I will maybe buy a 1/2 size smaller next time.
  14. OK sounds like one of those then. Many thanks.
  15. Hi, I have a new Sherpa con-rod - its 116mm length (centres), 18mm big end pin, 16mm small end pin. Anybody know which model its off? thanks
  16. I run an Amal on mine (old british carb). 1" bore, runs good...
  17. Yes, I also heard Rentha chain is made by Regina. Good stuff.
  18. Thanks Martin, No use to me (thought it was cota) so it will have to go on ebay!
  19. Hi, Can anyone help identify which model this offside side cover this is off?? http://www.flickr.com/photos/76022002@N08/7342021068/in/photostream many thanks!
  20. You could go for a Mikuni carb - Bultaco UK should be able to sort you out with one and theres a guy called motocarb sells em for 247s on ebay.
  21. Good point Tayld, I always run a braided cable from a point on the engine to the coil earth bracket.
  22. Is the HT coil mounted away from the heat? You could try running it without the primary drive cover on for a short while - so the generator part stays cooler.. I have one of these on my Bantam and its good.
  23. Any thoughts on the best airbox? I would guess they got better with each new release - so I assume the 199/198b are best?. I ask the question because there is an ex Reynolds bulto on ebay from 1983 with the older (mid 70's) airbox fitted - the one with the side mounting foam filter. They must've fitted it for a reason - is it better? Bigger volume?? I'd say its easier to service the filter but that wouldn't have been an issue on a works bike I wouldn't have thought.....
  24. Thanks for all the advice - makes sense on the head angle Woody and to be honest I think the difference between a 199 and a 198 wouldnt make much difference to my bad riding results.....!
