  1. How many years did John Reynolds wear that yellow PJ1 helmet for? he wore it for every kickstart, and most events in the early 80's late 70's. All these posts on cleaning helmets I sugest we ask JR he must be the helmet cleaning king. (I await all the pics of JR not wearing the helmet in that period!!!!!)
  2. What ? No scrutineering? I hope the club is well insured!!!! I know srutineering a pain in the preverbial, but some people would sue if they impailed themselves on the ball less clutch lever, or cracked their skull open when their loose spoked rear wheel collapsed causing their antique push bike helmet to split open as it smashes against a granite rock!!!!!!! Believe me some riders would sue, it not the observer or spectator would, unfortunatly money talks especially via a good lawyer! Scrutineering covers the clubs bum what you choose to brake after scrutineering is not thier problem!
  3. We would love to hold a world round here in western australia unfortunatly we observe according to the rule book, therefore i'm afraid the minders would have to change there gardening routines. All front end loaders would be locked away in the carpark before the event, and the amount of leniency with roll backs would be the same across the board and not reletive to the riders world ranking or the volume of their minder!!!!!!!
  4. Ah!! 79 what a year, bourght my first trials iron, a ty250 for 699 pounds (crazy prices) from Eddie Grimsteads in EastHam just of the A13. Had my first trial two weeks later in #Tenterdon# Kent, Got pulled up by the police on the road getting to the first section, had some old geezer, Lampkin I think his name was? pull up behind us and calm the irrate plod down. Continued on my merry way and fived most of the sections for the rest of the day and dented the tank. I know I should have done better, ask anyone how they went on thier first trial and most say they got a first class award !!!!! Well the wheel has turned full circle and here I am in sunny Aus and after many a trials bike and a few good trials under my expanding belt and I have just purchased another Yam, an SY250 (I wish it was still 699!!!!) All I have to do now is crack the tank, get done by the plod, and five most sections, well one out of three ain't bad....
  5. My 250 (2000) also rattles from the top end, I have changed the clutch basket (now the rubberised one), main bearings, rings etc: so now i'm thinking piston slap....... is this common for a sherco after 4 seasons?
  6. You seem very interested in the sherco's all of a sudden R2 do I sence a change comming? There's a lot of Bling! out there for the sherco right up your alley. I'd bet the first operation you would perform was to paint it fire engine red!!!

    Tank Cover

I have just purchaced an immaculate 04 sy250 previously ridden by a clubman, unfortuatly here in western australia, having the only SY does pose a problem. What are the pit falls on this machine, the tank does look more vunerable than the others makes (especially the way I ride)does anyone produce a tank cover as such? or do I just endevour not to stack it! Ive noticed various aftermaket add ons for the bike, exhaust gaurd, bashplate and water pump protector. How many of you guys have burnt your legs, sheared the water pump or slid side ways off a log? are these add ons essential or just nice to have? Any recommendations on any add ons or mods that will assist me before I slowly demolish the bike over the next five seasons would be greatful!
  8. I would'nt like to change a tyre on those rims!
  9. Wow this post has got the forum talking, 17 posts in one day!!!!! Not including the top riders most mortals are overwieght to an extent, some more extent than others. Most realistic new buyers look at Spares availability, brand loyalty, looks etc more than lightness when buying a bike. Dropping 2,3,4 kgs in a bike is a lot more expensive than dropping the same in body fat although less painfull. When you see a 50kg 13 year old float over a log wouldn't you love to strap two 20kgs bags of spuds to his bike and say "try it now me young chopper!!!!!!!!!!." I appreciate where your going with this however the majority of riders won't hand over that sort of cash and the FIM wouldn't allow a bike 20 kgs lighter than the rest or Dougie would already be on one. If it were allowed there would already be a Scorpa 4tricks with a TYZ engine winning every indoor and the majority of outdoors. Put your expertise and money into a good looking trials bike, with great spares availability, made from parts from all the major trials manafactures and around 100kgs then we can all lose the 10 kgs in body fat required by most average trials riders!!!!!
  10. hey drop a few kilo's (twenty would be nice) and may be I could ride like eddie!!!!!
  11. Did one of your previous bikes have the gear lever in a vertical position, Many moons ago a lot of riders would have their levers that way to avoid the rocks, these days though most new riders have them horizontal so shifting with the toe is easyer. In the past the older bikes, TY's/RL's gear levers could be moved horizontal to vertical with ease, I suppose the more modern bikes must be more restrictive for lever positioning. Just a thourght!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  12. I would say the breather tube just topped up after the upending, as with most liquids, oil spills always looks a lot worse than they are. I know cutting off the end of breather tubes to 45 degrees stops the (venturi) effect, which was a big problem on an FJ1100 yam I still own. The other cause could be too much gearbox oil ie: 500cc instead of the 450cc for a sherco!!!!!

    2001 Exhausts

Just a query does a 2001+ exhaust fit onto a 99/2000 frame and if not what mods are required? I'm sick of repairing the muffler. Why do 2stroke trials manafactures still persist in using them when sherco has proved that theres no need for them!

    Just Rebuilt

Hi Chaps, Ive just rebuilt my 2000 sherco (last night), having installed new crank shaft bearings/seals/and piston rings. On starting she revs like a chainsaw on heat whilst on choke, take off the choke and she coughs and sputters and to keep her running a slight amount of throttle is needed which results in more banshee wailing or spluttering. The CDI is back to its original position, the fly wheel can only go on one way, the carby is set up correctly and works perfectly well on my 99 sherco. Question is what can be causing it, airleaking? timing? carby? All help greatfully recieved!!!!!!!!!!!!
  16. Yup concur with kbd no problems getting a ride in WA quite welcome to stay with us if your having problems with places to stay and ride....
  17. Thanks guys for your responses we can get the SY175F in Aus however its the same price as the 250??????????? is that the same over there? what is the difference in price between the basic 175 and 250, is it over 350 pounds? I would like to buy the 175 however for a small outlay I can get the 250 with all the bells and whistles and a proven track record. uummmmmmmmmm!!!! still undecided.
  18. OK Chaps the new TYS175 has just arrived downunder and being a yam hibrid i'm very tempted. For the sum of $7995aus she could be mine drive away.....(no road complience here) for an extra 350pounds $1000, the tys250 is also in the budget which comes with the uprated forks etc, the tys175 being the basic model. Qustion is, is 350pounds the difference between the two over there? or is it a lot more. what would be the consenses, go the 2st or save a grand $$$ and ride the less equiped machine, i'm around 100kg and don't ride anything too severe. How are the 125's depreciatng compared to the 250's over there? thanks guys
