I run a small machine shop, which is very handy building bikes. But it doesn’t seem to stop the price spiralling away!

If you did all that for less than a grand, that good going! The motor was for a bantam rolling chassis that I built some time ago, but I’ve had a change of plans. I’m now after a Greeves that I can fit this motor to, the bantam now has another engine fitted. Failing that if anyone wants to buy a fully rebuilt 32a motor it may appear in the classifieds shortly…

I did a silly thing today, I totalled up how much I have spent on my engine rebuild (a Villiers 32a) Including the buying the engine its cost just over £900 and I still haven’t got an ignition yet! I didn’t expect it to cost so much, the last time I rebuilt a complete engine it cost less than £300!

I’ve seen a couple of trailers that dismantle / fold-up for storage they don’t take up much more room than a bike rack May be an option?

It looks like the orginial Villiers bearing (Hoffmann) and its never had a bearing turn in the housing. The only thing I can think is Villiers had QC problems and used some oversize bearings!

My Nan had the rule across the knuckles at school which permanently damaged her hand! Not forgetting those childhood favourites, Polio & TB The good old days....

Do you know what the length is?

Just stripped down my 4 speed gearbox, the bearing on the output shaft seems to have a coating of copper on it, I presume it’s a 6205 bearing but it measures .002” over size? I’ve tried a 6205 bearing on the casting and it’s a slide fit at best, I presume the copper coating is to pack it out, has anyone had a similar experience? Or does it use a special bearing?

That’s very true, but it probably say more about the state of modern trials rather than the classics! The classic bike prices are getting ridiculous, but if you shop around you can still get a well-priced classic.

I’m looking for a nice exhaust silencer for my Villiers project, I’ve had a look around and all I can find are 4 stroke silencers?

I reckon he’s on the minimum wage, luncheon vouchers and his entries are paid for with petty cash

I’ve broken the ignition cover on my pro (again), I’ve tried all the usual suppliers and none seem to have any in stock. Is this a symptom of their demise? Anyone know where to get one from?

Not worth the hassle or risk for a few extra quid, if it leaks you will have to remove the engine, strip and rebuild it again!

I would much prefer a carburettor on my bike, EFi seems to over-complicate the simplicity of a 2T engine! This maybe because I can’t afford a new bike with EFi, or I'm just an old git
