It also helps to suspend the bike with a sky hook when carrying out this job.

Scoobie, I think you have acted more than fairly so far from what has been written here.
Many people (and I must confess this includes me) would have simply said 'sorry sold as seen'.
Son of Rat, you have to try and see it from Scoobies point of view also. There are many variables to this problem and neither party will probably ever know for sure if something fishy is going on (on the part of either side)
Scoobie might have known there was a problem when he sold the bike, equally your Dad might have caused the problem when he took it apart.
Remember, electrical components do suddenly fail one day, this doesn't make the deal dodgy in any way, as stated above it is possibly just down to bad luck on the part of both parties.
This is the reason why I personally hate fun fair roller coasters.... they are machines and eventually all machines break. It would be just my luck to be the one who gets caught out.

If you get a neg on your ebay account, simply reply in a factual manner. Don't get into a slanging match.

It's a six year old competition bike which was running ok when the buyer bought it.
IF, the stator has gone then you cold have not forseen this. It's not like you're trying to shift a dodgy bike. Now if there had been some other mechanical fault that you were obviously covering up, it might have been a different matter.
Stators go. If the bike had got a puncture first time out, would he have expected you to pay for that?
It all boils down to your concience and for a

There are a lots of variables here.
The stator may have gone. It happens, I had two on my '04 Beta in five trials. This is a common problem up to '06. As a private sale of a competition bike, you are not legally bound to do anything about this unless you mentioned a warranty when you sold the bike. Morally, this is a different matter.
He may also have damaged something when he stripped the carb. Maybe, this can be fixed cheaply. As mentioned above, a cracked jet etc.
He may have also simply put something back together wrong. Pinched fuel line, carb rubber misplaced, spark plug wrongly gapped. Fixed for free!
He may also be trying to pull a fast one. You have no way of telling.
What ever you do, don't agree to fix the bike totally for free. If you feel the need to help him out, then offer to come to some agreement after it is fixed and you see the repair bill. Even this is a bit of a minefield, how do you know the stator is from your bike if it needs one? (Forgive me for playing devils advocate here, but this could happen.)
Remember it is a used competion machine which was running fine when tried and approved. How much warranty would you expect? A day, a month, a year?

I must say it has become a habit to start the engine and push away beofre selecting gear.
On every trials bike I've ever had there is a certain amount of initial clutch stick when cold.
-
Does anyone know if any of the parts are common to the earlier or later models?
I put a search on ebay and only came up with fork seals.
Fantic Fork seals, click here.

Thanks for pointing us to this one.

The Rev4 does look very well finished in real life.
We will just have to wait and see if it performes as well as it looks in the hands of regular riders.
-
Plus someone up above was smiling on us with the weather. He waited until I'd just finished the last section before throwing it down!
-
Mick, I've seen a clip of that very bank on a CJB video recently. I'm sure there were TY250's going up that waterfall (or not as the case may be!)
Wrighty worked hard this weekend to put on the RV, it shows that he's got a damn good eye for a tough trial.
-
Youwere finished by 1.00!!!! Youdid get a move on, it was getting dark when we finshed clearing up.
I missed Saunders riding section seven, I can't imagine how anyone would clean that drop. I'd have been on my left knee all the way down then landed in a heap. Even on the B route I lost 3,3,3 there.
-
It must have bee the first lap then Stu, you were on the back wheel all the way up!
I don't theink Wrighty was in a friendly mood at the start. He ambushed a number of people and made them observe.
I spoke to two observers who were too terrified to leave their sections without permission at the end. I don't know what Wrighty promised/threatened them with but it did the trick.
15 Observers on the day is no mean feat!
-
Justin, I didn't see you ride a section today, I was hoping to have a chat at the end but by the time we'd cleared the sections everyone had gone.
We were really lucky with the weather, when I left it was raining cats and dogs, it's a good job it hadn't come an hour or two earlier, it would have ruined the whole trial.
I haven't seen the results yet but I'm sure if Steve says he's on two then it won't be many more. I'm sorry you didn't manage the concrete step, I didn't think that was the worst one.
How did you get on with the drop into the rocky ditch at section seven? I really didn't like the look of that....... Wrighty is an evil man!
I also saw Stu flying up the graded hill climb but didn't get a chance to speak to him either.
Ali Haigh thought hat he'd lost 16 on the B route and Kevin McKullagjh was on just one on the C route which was also a very good ride in the conditions.
-
I've just got back from riding in the RV and early indications are that Steve Saunders riding the Repsol Beta Rev3 has won the event on a miserly 2 marks lost.
Riders who hung around at the start made a big mistake as fine drizzle started to make the later part of the trial much slippier. With three laps of 16 section to be ridden, anone with sections still to do right at the end was in for a shock as the ground became almost unrideable.
I'll post the results as soon as they are available.
-
Electric start sounds like a good idea. (Joke) Perhaps that's all the Sherco 4t needs?
I think I'll wait to see what the '08 Rev4 is like before making up my mind. A years customer approval (development) is better than all the magazine tests you could ever read.
-
Justin has a huge advantage. He starts no 1 and the early numbers will get to the muddy bits beofre they get too deep!
I'm sure that will make all the difference.
