  1. In my opinion, I would use the Leonelli one, I used another make and I had, on several occasions, the bike still running when the lanyard had pulled the magnet off !!
  2. Hi gazza, I had a knocking noise from my 2016 Evo and my 2019 Evo. Both times it was the front sprocket. As you say there is noise when revved stationary, but definitely there riding in between sections. As the sprocket wears it makes the chain jump up a bit causing the noise which you think sounds expensive ! Put a new sprocket on the 2016, problem solved ! On the 2019, with me being tight, I actually filed the sprocket back in shape and that solved it. If you have a spare sprocket in good condition 10 or 11 tooth, give it a go, nothing to lose and possibly a cheap fix. To be fair, I think that the worn swingarm bearing isn't helping the situation, but your getting that done, but do try that sprocket, it done my head in for quite a while and I asked a fair few people, but came up with no answers Good luck
  3. Good evening, I removed mine with the old bodge with a hammer and a chisel, you could also grind a slot with a dremel . I then replaced them with some sensible hex heads. Good luck.
  4. Hello, The best way i have found is to use spray adhesive, ( No nonsense contact adhesive, by a well known building material supplier £4.38). Peel the sticker back until you get a clean bit, then remove any dirt with brake cleaner or similar, I scrape the muck away with a blade. If its just the edge, spray some adhesive into the lid and then get a cotton bud and dab it on the sticker, wait 30 seconds, then press down firmly and you're done, any excess can be cleaned up with brake cleaner. If its a big area of sticker, either take the whole thing off and spray straight from the can, or leaving it half attached, cover all surrounding areas and spray onto the sticker and wait 30 seconds and press down. My stickers have been stuck down for over two years now.
  5. Hi Jeff, You can see the snapped off adjuster to the right of the fuel pipe inside that small circle housing. If you are careful, you may get away with heating up a flathead screwdriver and pushing it into the remaining bit of plastic to make a groove, let it cool down so it goes hard and then hopefully you can just unscrew it out and replace. If that doesn't work, as on it says, you can drill it out Good luck
  6. Good evening Gazza. My 2019 250 Evo came with ( and still has ) a 48 pilot jet. I haven't come across anything as high as that in my previous Evo's. A 55 would make it rather rich. Mixture / air screw or whatever you want to call it is usually about 1 3/4 turns out. For peace of mind, check with lampkins.
  7. Hello ksv, the best results I have had are from using no nonsense spray adhesive from screwfix ( I hope I'm allowed to say this ). For lifted edges, spray some into the lid or another small container and dab a cotton bud in it, then paint onto the sticker ( clean the area well before ), wait about 30 seconds and then press down. If you need to do a whole decal, just spray the back , wait 30 seconds and carefully position and press it down.
  8. They are now allowed to go backwards, but not with foot or feet down ( although it said in the programme that they couldn't ). The time thing is a tricky one, as introtrials says maybe points for being over time, there's probably never going to be an ideal scoring method whilst keeping the whole thing within a reasonable time restraint for the day, but I do have to say that generally its the best riders that are winning still.
  9. Good evening, How about a bit of chemical metal, it worked on my daughters cars exhaust for years. Regarding the colour of your plug, all my Evos have always been on the dark side, Lampkins said not to worry about it too much, just go by engine response. I found that if i turn the mixture screw out, i then experience bogging on the bottom if I turn the throttle quickly.
  10. As above get a 250. I had a 200 as well, they need to be revved a bit sometimes, the 250 2019 they I now own is smooth and more than enough power unless your doing big boy stuff ! I have also had a 300, the power is ok, just depends how hard you twist the throttle, the main trouble I had was starting it when I was tired, but I have got legs like a 5 year old ! As far as the Montesa is concerned, lovely suspension, clutch and gearbox, just seems to be a black art to get them to grip in the mud.
  11. Just for the record, I fitted the new fan switch today and all seems fine. I ran it for about half an hour, turning it off half way through and the fan was kicking in and out nicely every 2-3 minutes, so hopefully it was a simple solution. Funny how you conjure up all sorts of possibilities in your mind while your waiting for parts to arrive ! Pretty straight forward job, apart from getting the old switch out of the radiator. I actually destroyed the old one, having to resort to putting a self tapping screw into it to pull it out ! it was certainly in there well, putting the new one in required a bit of rubber grease around the o ring and and a very firm push. Thanks again to all those who helped,
  12. Thanks Pindie and world trial champ, although I have only just learnt the bit about filling the coolant with the wheel in the air, I think the way the fan has been acting intermittently may indicate that all is not well with something. Yes the headlight has been removed when I got the bike 14 months ago and I taped up all the loose connectors and I have taken the tape off to check and they are all pristine. The new switch arrived today, so I will replace that tomorrow ( I could stretch it out for the next few weeks probably, no trials for a while ! ) and we will see what happens. Thanks
  13. Thanks for that Overdale, I checked the coolant level the other day and topped it up a little bit, i assume there was a bit missing from the blow out that i have been getting, this may have been happening for some time as I noticed a smell a few times but i only noticed the fan working recently as it is intermittent, I have now turned the overflow pipe around as advised by Lampkins, so it drips on the exhaust for early indication. I checked those wires you suggested earlier today with the stat connector bridged, but despite a good wiggle it kept on running, and only stopped when i pulled the connector apart completely. Hopefully the new switch will solve it, I will let you know. Thanks for your help.
  14. HI Overdale, Thanks for the reply, I ran the bike today and the fan came on after 4 minutes, then cycled on and off about 6 times over the next 10 - 15 minutes and then eventually the fan stopped coming in and it spat coolant out again. I convinced myself that it is a dodgy switch and have now ordered a new one. I will have a look at those wires in the morning and see if anything changes. Thanks very much for that info.
  15. Thanks for the replies, I think a new switch is what is required, just wanted some reassurance that was the case,I didn't want to just get one and find it was something else. Cheers
  16. Good evening all, I have a 2019 Beta Evo and i am having a problem with an intermittent fan. After about 5 minutes of running. the fan kicks in for a while then cuts out again, then it doesn't come on again and eventually coolant starts spitting out of the overflow . On a couple of occasions, i have noticed when i sit there revving the bike, the fan blade moves slightly a few times like its trying to start and then a couple of times it has eventually kicked into life, like the vibration from the enginGe has jogged it into working, but then it will stop again shortly and then eventually spit out coolant again. The fan is working fine when i bridge the connector terminals, so its not the fan and i assume its nothing to do with the water pump, if that had failed then it may boil over but the fan should still kick in. I think the switch is the main suspicion, just thought they either work or don't work, not sure that they work intermittently. Any help appreciated. Thanks
  17. Good evening, I had this problem on my old 2016 Evo. I used a blind bearing puller with a slide hammer and managed to get it out with no damage, I then rubbed it down with wet and dry until it was a much looser fit. For what its worth, Beta wouldn't give me a volume of oil, only an air gap measurement which was 130mm with spring out and 70mm on the damper side, which was 5mm more each side than the 2014 recommendation. I also phoned a Trials shop ( can't remember which one ) and they said that they always just put 300ml in each leg. I suppose if you start with 300ml you could easily add a bit more rather than having to try to take some out if you put too much in. Good luck
  18. I have had good results sticking down stickers with spray adhesive, the type used for sticking down vinyl and carpets, you can get it from the major builders merchants for £3.99 If its just the corners, spray some into a lid and then use a cotton bud to apply it to one side, wait 30 seconds, then press down. Any excess can be cleaned with a bit of brake cleaner on a cloth. If its really hanging off, peel it off, clean it up with brake cleaner or similar, ( and clean the surface its being stuck to ), spray the whole sticker, wait 30 seconds and refit. Good luck
  19. I would mr T, but you had them all before I could get any !!
  20. Hello, has anyone heard of a lighter spring that will fit a sachs rear shock on my 2019 Beta Evo 250. Apparently, an Ohlins spring doesn't fit . I'm only 9 1/2 stone and i find the standard one is too firm. Any other setting suggestions are also welcome Thanks
  21. Hi Dan, thanks for the reply, every thing seems to be clean and free from paint, I have put a new seal kit in the master cylinder today, a got a slightly firmer feel on the lever, when I took the pads out and put the two faces together they seemed to be high in the middle ? I have flattened the pads off ( galfers ) on a flat surface and put them back in, I will bed them in again and see if its any better, if not i will put a new set of pads in and go from there. Cheers
  22. Hi Lineaway, its a standard evo so it has grimeca parts. But like you say the lever does fade away and sounds a bit creeky when pulled firmley, it hasn't got that nice solid feel like it should. I have ordered a master cylinder seal kit from Lampkins today as I have had trouble with that area in the past with my other evo's and we will see if that improves it. Cheers.

    Brake help

Hoping someone can help with this one . 2016 Beta evo 250 2t . I have replaced the front brake pads and also new piston and seals a few months ago, now I have just noticed that the pads do not appear to be pressing on the whole of the disc. There only seems to be wear on the bottom 3/4 of the disc and that top 1/4 seems unmarked. The brakes work pretty good, but not as sharp as my friends evo when I tried his. The lever feels fairly firm but not as firm as some other bikes that I have felt recently. I have taken the pads out and they appear to angled, being fatter at the bottom, the pistons are all clean and come out and go back in ok. Just wondering if anyone else has come across this and can shed any light on it. Thanks in advance.
  24. Hi shorty, for what its worth, I have owned four Evo's now and every one has had oily plugs, but they all ran fine. I have found that if you lean off the mixture / air screw to get a better plug reading, results in bogging when you open the throttle quickly. I also asked a few other riders about their bikes, but surprisingly they hadn't checked it ! Personally I now ignore the oily looking plug now and just concentrate on how the bike is running, making sure that I regularly clean the carb and always have a clean filter as my current 2016 bike is a bit prone to getting a bit of water in after I wash it.
  25. Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I might try some s3 levers, I have taken two springs out or the clutch which helps, but I do have a bad clutch habit I need to get out of. I quite like the idea of some of the supplements in the hope of curing it, I will post up on here if I get any joy. Cheers, keep riding while you can !
