  1. Hi Evo Boy. The longer one goes on the rear brake arm and the tight bend goes over the brake lever and the shallow bend goes over the brake backing plate where the axle goes through. The front one is the same. Graham.
  2. Hi Blueflag. Yes they should have a slot in the top only the width of the inner cable though. Graham.
  3. Yes it was only the last ones that had the tapered top clamps. They were just using what stock they had left in the factory as they had no money to pay for more more stock to use. I have seen some with older hubs as well. A lot of the B`s also had steel torque arms on them as well. Graham.
  4. I can remember reading a post on here ages ago that said that the Banana silencer made more power and it is a lot lighter. The new WES clubfoot ones are getting very good reviews though. Or just chop your clubfoot open and change the internals to match another post in here somewhere. Good luck Rod!
  5. Thanks Patrik. Germany is just a bit to far for me as I am in Australia. It looks like I might have to just make an insert and make the hole in the exhaust port larger and heat shrink the insert in there. Finding a tap that size might be fun though. I have never made any threads on my lathe and it is an imperial lathe so making a metric thread could be fun. Or I could just take all of it into an engineering shop and get them to do it which is probably the smart thing to do. Cheers Graham.

    Helicoils.

I`m rebuilding an Alpina engine at the moment, M115 and the exhaust thread is no good. I remember seeing some helicoils or a solid inserts for sale to go into the exhaust port on the early engines. I can`t find them now though. Does anybody know of a place that sells them. Cheers Graham.
  7. Just remember that it is a Motoplat ignition system on the M212s and the M213s.
  8. Hi jonjeans. If you Sherpa has the liner protruding above the barrel with a hollow ring the same size in the head then it does not have a head gasket. If it has a flat head and a flat top of the barrel then it does have one. I think the 191 would be the same as a M159 and they don`t have a gasket. Graham.
  9. Jonjeans, your Sherpa should not have rubber bushes in the swingarm. I don`t know why anyone would fit them. They are supposed to have bronze bushes with a steel inner and have seals from the outside of the bush hole to the steel inner on the inside of the swingarm.
  10. One thing I can see with your spark plug is the plug gap looks way too wide. A Bultaco on points need a plug gap of .40mm the same as the points. That would not be causing the problem but it will make it start much easier.
  11. Have you changed the old condenser? If not that sounds like the problem. Even new ones can be dodgy. If it isn`t that just go through the ignition system and check all of the connections including the end of the high tension spark plug lead where it goes into the sparkplug cap. Chop a bit off the end and have a new end to work with.

    199A Setup

I have a 2.15 inch rear rim on my M199B and there are no clearance issues on it.

    199A Setup

If you want to really improve the brakes on a Sherpa T then you have to have a cast iron liner or just an iron liner installed. This improves the brakes heaps. I have a M199 with NJB 395mm shocks on the rear (TLR Honda) and it handles fine. This bike won the open class in the Twinshock Masters Trial (Queensland, Australia) last year so it handles well. The only other change on it is the footpegs are Apico alloy ones and the brackets are moved back and down about half an inch. Stay with the standard Yokes or triple clamps. The airbox you are after is the 158,159 up to the 190, 191. Graham.
  14. Hi fourex. As far as I can remember there is no spring on the air screw on the Bings or on the Amals. The o-ring holds therm firm. Graham.
  15. Those holes are so the engine can get some extra lubricant on the hottest part of the barrel, the exhaust port side of the cylinder liner. I think all of the later Bultacos have them even the 125cc ones.
  16. On my M199 I had to buy a swing arm off eBay as it had a nasty bend in it. The first one I bought I could'nt use as whoever sold it had done some great photography so the bends were unseeable. The next one I bought was okay. A M199A one will probably fit on but you would need to check the length to be certain. I can have a look on Monday for you Fourex. I'm assuming a M159 would be the same as a M183. Graham.
  17. Hi Fourex. If you can wait until Saturday I`m going out to Upper Brookfield where I have a Bing sitting on a shelf off a M199 or I can pull one off a M199A or a M199B and get all the jet sizes for you. You can only buy 0 slides now too so you will have to file a new one to suit. I`m in the same area as you so the jetting off these bikes should be what you need. Graham.
  18. Hi Robiesty. The triple clamps are different. The late Alpinas had the Pursang clamps on them. The gear ratios are different, the brakes are larger and on the rear wheel the brakes are on the opposite side. The Alpinas had a Motoplat ignition on them too, I know the 213s did anyway. I haven`t looked at a 212 for a few years now. There are a few other differences as well. There are a fair few Sherpas for sale in England. The 212s were always a bit underpowered compared to the 213s too. Graham.
  19. There is another place in Australia that has the Goneli mudguards. Bultaco Australia has them and I think they are in Melbourne as well. In Motion in England does have original shape and look mudguards. Graham.
  20. You might be better off having the forks rechromed. Rad Hard Chroming in Brisbane does them. They also straighten them out as well. Graham.
  21. It looks like there is a washer missing off the ignition side of the crank pin. That might be what is causing so much play. They are supposed to have a washer on each side of the bigend pin.
  22. That is reasonably normal especially on a M158 as those frames are made from soft steel. If you want too just hit the frame under the engine with a rubber hammer that might get them to move down a bit. The frame will end up there again if you hit anything with it, rocks and logs. Graham.
  23. The In Motion ones fit very well. I have them in all of my three Sherpa`s and it has made the steering in all three feel much nicer. Graham.
  24. I can take a photo of mine but it will have to wait until Monday though. I leave early tomorrow morning for the Queensland Classic, Twinshock and Air Cooled Mono Championships in Stanthorpe. I`m camping there and Saturday night they are forecasting -5 degrees celsius. Should be a great weekend though. Graham.
  25. There is a real debate on which primary oil to use in a Bultaco on here. I don`t like ATF but most of you love it. I just found the primary chain doesn`t last as Iong. I use a 10/30 motorcycle gear oil in all of mine. In the gearbox use a 90 weight gear oil. Most of the older owners manual said to use a 140 weight oil in the gearbox but almost everyone uses a heavy gear oil. Use 300ml in the primary case if you have rebuilt the bike or 250ml if only changing the oil. Same in the gearbox. Use 600ml or 550ml if only changing the oil. Graham.
