  1. One more thing: check the ecu plug to make sure that all pins are vertical and not bent. I have already had a machine with starting difficulties and poor engine running and the reason was that the pin for the radiator sensor was crooked and had not made any contact.
  2. My 4RT 2014 had similar problems. The engine stopped after 30-40 min when it was hot, and 1-2 seconds before that the fan was only turning at half speed. With the fan disconnected the engine also stopped, so the fault was not in the fan. Ultimately it was a creeping defect in the fuel pump. I bought a new fuel pump (ebay, 45 EUR) and installed it and that was the solution.
  3. I just put a little strainer on the air intake.

  5. For a year I use the german "quick out" system, which will be build in/out in half a hour: https://www.quickout.de/caravan-expansion-for-van/ It is ideal for the safe transport of motorcycles and for a comfortable overnight stay at the training ground. I use it firmly mounted in a L2H2 Opel (Vauxhall) Movano B = Nissan NV 400 = Renault Master III.
  6. Sorry, but the vent part no. is the same for 2005->2014
  7. With the increase in bore for the 2014 Cota, Honda changed the injection mapping to reduce engine braking.
  8. With a little work you can adapt an Uni-Filter or a K&N in the stock airbox. This increases airflow without having disadvantages with wet or muddy conditions.

    Tlr200 Cdi

Hi, have a look here: http://www.classictrial.co.uk/hondacdi.html In germany some boys have tested different chinese "racing" 5pin CDI for 125/150ccm 4stroke pitbikes. If you buy 4 different chinese CDI, 3 will be rejected production but the last one will run well with the TLR200.
  10. For those boys who are playing with the idle screw 10 times a day: http://www.vitititaniowtc.com/en/motorcycle-accessories-parts/light-part-ddm-prodotti-per-moto-trial.html "New ergal regulations minimum without tools for Montesa 4RT. Weight 7 gr.", about 16,- EUR Attention: there is no O-ring included and Montesa don´t sell it separate.
  11. 4RT 260/ 2014: about 85 hours on counter, fed with german E10 fuel and Total Quartz 9000 Energy 5W-40 full synthetic, oil changes every 20 hours, it starts first/ sometimes second kick and runs perfect, just the first plug in because it looks like new. A pal with same bike but another engine oil (10W40 half synthetic) kills the plug every 20 hours. Is the engine oil making the difference?
  12. When did the problem appear for the first time? Only after you have got the machine and have screwed onto it or already with the previous owner? If the previous owner has had no problems with it, you should check / repeat everything what you have touched and changed. By the way: check the tank ventilation. It does not fit really to the mistake description, however, it is good over and over again for surprises...
  13. Hi there, http://www.tytrials.co.uk/trailandtrialsuk/prod_4227672-Replacement-Sump-Guard-TLR250-TLR200-Reflex.html http://www.snezzy.be/index.php http://www.kindsvogel.de1.cc/ I got the alloy cast sump guard from Kivo, it`s like snezzy sells. Good protection for the crankcase covers.
  14. Hi, You can take a venhill universal throttle kit. Rollox

    New 4Rt Mods

First once enjoy this miraculous motorcycle. Then pay attention to short change intervals and good oil quality for engine, gearbox and fork and give new grease to the bearings of the swingarm linkage one or twice per year. Then you will have long pleasure with your 4RT. I changed clutch/brake levers to the short S3 Digit, the S3 World handlebar to the higher S3 Buffalo, also fitted S3 End5 end plugs and a stronger bashplate/ linkage protector from KIVO (Germany). And I`ll never ever give it away!
  16. I`m happy with a 6,5 mm strong "KRC-Unterfahrschutz" (Art.-Nr.: KRC.UM1) and a Linkage Protecor (Art.-Nr.: KRC.LPM1) from KIVO, Germany. Have a look here: http://www.kindsvogel.de/shop/->Zubehör -> KRC Trial-Parts http://s1227.photobucket.com/user/Rollox/media/Montesa%20Cota%204RT%20260/20150316_114344.jpg.html
  17. You`re welcome. But it´s no magic because the memo was enclosed to the kit... It´s the copy of the 20th copy so it isn´t possible to picture it here.
  18. Hi chappo, The kit works excellent. A few years ago I got it from Gordon Farley: http://www.gfmotorcycles.co.uk/ http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-TLR-200-250-Clutch-Anti-Judder-Kit-BRILLIANT-MOD-/251100363776?pt=UK_Motorcycle_Parts&hash=item3a76bf7c00 Maybe the kit will be in stock again. Just give them a call. Or you ask your Honda dealer: 1 friction disc 22201- KY1-000 1 spring seat 22125- KT7-750 1 judder spring 22402- KW7-900 It was a workaround for Honda CG125W to reduce clutch noise und judder. Internal Honda Memo: AS 042/01 Pg1/2 from 24/8/01. Remove and discard the outer friction disc und install the new friction disk together with judder spring and seat so the white paint mark on judder spring faces towards the outside. Bernhard
  19. All alternatives are a compromise because the primary drive ratio is not optimised for trial purposes. As a beginner I needed 9 front / 46 rear = 5,1 because with 10 / 44 the Reflex was a little bit unmerciful in slow motion corners. I still like the very short 1st gear for non clutch driving. Now with an anti judder kit in the clutch the Reflex can do a good modern style slow job at 2nd/ 3rd gear too.

    Fit A Battery?

Hi chrisa, I bought the spacer from Peter Schwarz in Germany for 15,- EUR. Schwarz is a Montesa dealer and a specialist for vintage and modern Montesa trialbikes. He also produces special parts for these motorcycles. Peter Schwarz Zweiradhandel Obersdorfstraße 21 56651 Niederzissen www.schwarz-zweiradhandel.de Phone 0049-2636-6198 info@schwarz-zweiradhandel.de I had seen these spacers before already in american forums, but I don`t know any more where. Fit A Battery?

The generator is too weak to start with lights switched on. It is important to switch off the lights before starting. On some bikes the current is a bit too low to get starting with 1st kick. I have mounted a 1-mm-thick spacer behind the generator stator. The overlapping between rotor and Stator becomes bigger. More current is generated and thereby the ignition coil has a little bit more current. So at my 4RT it is possible to lower idle speed to 1600 rpm and it starts 1st kick cold or hot. http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee439/Rollox/Montesa%20Cota%204RT%20260/spacer.jpg http://i1227.photobucket.com/albums/ee439/Rollox/Montesa%20Cota%204RT%20260/spaceratgeneratorcover.jpg

    4Rt Not Starting

hannu, I hope you checked gearbox oil too. After a deep dip in a creek my 4RT showed Pina Colada in engine and gearbox. Maybe water came in via ventilation tube.
  23. I can say only something about the combination of copy carb+ cherry bomb header from shedworks + exhaust from WES + K&N in airbox: elastic and powerful reving from idle, absolutely no low rev stalling, but a little bit tiredly at high revs. Imho very good for vintage trial riding.
  24. A little K&N crankcase filter helps to keep dirt and water out of the motor. Just put it in the airbox: and together with K&N air filter:
  25. I use a cable guide from the fork to get distance to the exhaust:
