  1. Hi, I got a sheng wey carb for my Reflex. A good copy carb, just plug `n play. Jets were unsigned but should be 42 pilot and 100 main. I found them a bit too large and changed to 40 pilot and 95 main. @sicco: which jets are set in your carb? Rollox
  2. On account of this problem my engine is just disassembled. Either the pinion and the rachet on the kick start spindle cannot move any more freely (oil mud) or their teeth have wore out and the springs have got tired. It`s recommanded to change the retainer and the kick shaft cam too. http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-tlr200-reflex-usa_model1107/partslist/E++12.html#results The engine case must be divided to develop the kick start spindle. I´ve changed all these parts and checked the spindle. I use the repair to change the typical wearing parts (cam chain with tensioners and spring, valve seals). Unfortunately, I have the Honda workshop book for ´86 Reflex only in printed form, but it is recommendable.
  3. "...If you do not add any air are not the forks sagging quite a bit?..." "...Quit worrying about sag on a trials bike. It is more important that the bike works evenly front to rear..." This is it. Fork and shocks have to do teamwork. So I use a pair of smooth NJB TrikShox adjusted to my weight.
  4. Hi, TLR Reflex: no air, 5W Castrol synth fork oil and All Balls Racing tripple lipped red fork seals. I love this smooth fork action. Not for crosscountry but best for classic trial. Mick liked it too... Rollox
  5. Hi Andrey, ask your dealer for the Honda manual "Kit Full Power Cota 4RT 260 (YM14-Eng).pdf". Or have a look here: http://www.montesa4rt.nl/data/2014_cota-4rt260-full_power-uk.pdf If you do the whole substitution process you will find the power you´re looking for. Bernhard
  6. I like the sound as well as he is. If you want to have it more quietly, an additional silencer cap from KTP would be the solution: http://trialparts-shop.de/produkt/zusatz-schalldaempfer-honda4rt/ The cap is delivered with 2 connection flaps, 2 fixing bolts, drilling template, assembly instructions and rivet nuts. The engine power should not be affected.
  7. Hi chappo, I got my ShengWey from shedworks with unmarked jets, Paul Cowley said they are main 100 and pilot 42. Original for Reflex Keihin is main 92 and pilot 38, imho a little too lean for proper work above idle. I tried main 95 and pilot 40 and it works well. Rollox
  8. Check the cam timing (chain or tensioners worn? "T"mark on flywheel matches "O"mark on cam sprocket?) and CDI connections (poorly connected to ground/frame?)
  9. Honda Service Manual for 1986 TLR 200 Reflex: „T“mark is top dead centre (TDC). Ignition time at idle is „F“mark, 7' before top dead centre (BTDC) at 1,300 ~ 100 rpm Full advance is 33' BTDC at 3,000 ~ 100 rpm Ignition timing is not adjustable. If you don`t see the timing advance up to 3,000 rpm, your CDI-unit failed.
  10. Hi TLTEL, You`ll find the Honda partnumbers at www.cmsnl.com. But I don`t think that you need new crankshaft bearings. In my opinion the left crankshaft bearing must lie laxly in the crankcase to compensate the heat delay of crankcase and crankshaft. Honda didn`t fix it so I would`t do it. The right crankcase bearing is fixed in the right crankcase cause this is the transmission side. I `m just repairing the kickstart transmission so I had to separate the crankcase. Rollox
  11. Talon gold sprockets 520: front 9 / rear 46, Regina gold chain, only with PTFE dry chain lube.
  12. Hi Andy, have a look here: http://www.kindsvogel.de/shop_classic/ KRC Unterfahrschutz Nachbau pas.f. Honda TLR 200 Art.-Nr.: KRC.UH1 190,00 EUR alloy moulded, warm-treated, size like original TLR 200 plate. I bought one last year, it fits perfect and seems more rigid than a nice looking c/f. Rollox
  13. Hi Andrew, the kickstart mechanism is a weak thing. I would check the complete kickstarter spindle with starter pinion and starter rachet. In doubt I would replace it. For part no. have a look here: http://www.cmsnl.com...list/E++12.html Bernhard
  14. Hi DocRogers, have a look here: http://www.tytrials.co.uk/trailandtrialsuk/cat_154758--17-Levers-Cables.html http://www.venhill.co.uk/ http://venhillusa.com/ I use a Venhill throttle cable with an Amal T80/200 Twistgrip and a Venhill clutch cable. Gives much smoother and lighter action than Honda cables. Don`t lubricate with oil, better with teflon spray (PTFE). For front brake I like the more rigid OEM Honda cable. Rollox
  15. Hi bashplate, You cannot directly interchange the jets for a given size. http://faq.ninja250.org/wiki/Dynojet_-_Mikuni_-_Keihin_jet_sizes_conversion http://www.triumphrat.net/hinckley-classic-triples/121732-good-chart-on-keihin-vs-mikuni-jet-sizes.html Rollox
  16. Hi Andy, I modified the Reflex myself. I´m no Mechanic so I needed help with the welding of the footrests (lower and back). Besides I had luck with the choice of the parts. Thanks to shedworks, NJB, tytrials, FranceTrialClassic and Snezzy for the good stuff. With some diligence and some tips from this forum the rebuilding was no problem. In 2011 I started trialbiking with my Reflex and I took part in a few classic trial competitions. It is hard work for a beginner but I´m doing this just for fun not for a good ranking. The Reflex runs perfect and I´m happy with it. Regards Bernhard

    Honda Engines

Hi Dave, Has the rattling noise suddenly come? So did you check the cam chain tensioner? I heard about TLRs with broken chain tensioner/ chain guide or blocked tensioner arm. My TLR has done over 20.000 km onroad and the chain is still relatively quiet. Bernhard
  18. Hi bashplate, it looks like a Mikuni PZ22. You will find a lot of cheap china copies on Internet. If your TLR runs well it is the right stuff. I got a Keihin copy and my TLR runs well too. Rollox
  19. Hi Jeff, You`re welcome. The shedworks shelter comes with an alu tank. I prefer the single colour tank set in white gelcoat cause the surface is more robust than a spraying. It fits precisely on the TLR frame. And 230 + post is a favorable price for a clean handcrafted work. Bernhard

    TLR200 choke problem.

I use a NGK DPR7EIX-9 Iridium spark plug. It has a wider temperature range und performs a short start phase and a steady idle.

    Carburation

After carb checkup I changed the spark plug from stock NGK DR8ES-L to NGK DR7ES or best DPR7EIX-9. The NGK DPR7EIX-9 Iridium spark is a little wonder and makes the engine less sensitively against carb problems and optimises kickstart and deep revs driving.
  23. Hello Woody, Many thanks for the important tip. I will ask my welder to strengthen the footrests accordingly. We drive these footrests in several bikes and had, fortunately, up to now no problems.
  24. Hello bashplate, Thanks. Please have a look to the topic "TLR 200 performance mods. What works and what is just bling?"
  25. I bought a pair of steel universal trial footrests from trialsbits.co.uk and a friend helped me to saw the original footrest holders of the frame and to weld a little frame extension with the new footrests on it just 2 cm back and lower. It should look nearly original and I think that it does. I like to ride the footrests without return springs, in any case the kick start clears the rest also in riding position.
