  1. i seem to remember the frame was chrome,as when I painted it red it rubbed of by heels.it was a rtl250 alloy tank not the same as production bike.the fraser?frame had a single square top tube.the tank I fitted had a clear plastic pipe on side so you could see how much petrol was in tank.
  2. Many years ago I bought a bultaco Sammy miller hi boy cheap, ive made many trials bikes using various makes and allways using Honda engines.any way I got this hi boy with knackered engine.so I put a Honda 185 twin road bike engine into it.i did not modify the frame I just made up brackets to make engine fit.i rode a few trials around Northampton.i also had a hi boy tl125.i would take both bikes to trials and lend out the bultaco to 2 or 3 other people to ride it was a big favourite to all who rode it.in fact at one section with big hill very muddy with 2 sharpe bends it beat a new gas gas with good expert rider who could not belive his eyes when he stood half way up after he failed the section.my mate riding was a novice riding same section.the exhaust were standard down pipes hammered at end to stop it getting noisey.it ran total loss battery that lasted all day no problem.i sold it to start my next project around Northampton to a bloke who was starting trials.i never saw the bike again.what happened to it?
  3. many years ago I bought a rolling chassis I was told by seller it was a fraser.i got it home and made a start on it to ride in my local trials club.i had a tl125 at the time but lacked power.any way it had a odd way of driving the chain to rear wheel from the front sprocket it had short chain to a double sprocket on swingarm bolt, then main chain to rear wheel.so first thing I did was to change swingarm to normal getting rid of double sprocket.i built a modern 250rs single road bike engine up throwing away balance shafts and lightning engine as much as possible.i found a ex works alloy rtl250 petrol tank.i rode the bike for couple of years before building next project bike.i sold bike to a mate cheap.next time I asked him what happened to bike he had sold it.so what happened to rtl tank,he threw it away as it was to small for him to use as a trail bike.and put larger tank on.i wonder what happened to bike? last seen Northampton area.ive been trying to find an old photo to no avail.what would the fuel tank be worth now on ebay.
  4. if its ok when hot it cannot be gearbox problem.i used to ride 150/200/250 Hondas people used to moan about clutch grab when hot,i started to use mobile one oil,the problem with grab was not as bad, others tried it and agreed with me.your clutch is not clearing very well.i used ebc clutch kits.never had problem with clearing.i am a motorcycle mechanic.and would never use fully synthetic in road bikes, the oil is to thin and at high revs the oil flings of the cam shaft.i have been on Honda courses and was told about full synthetic oil.please try mobile one in your tlr.and report back.
  5. they should be on ebay, they would find there own price.do you have ebay in the usa?
  6. these clutches are very simple and easy to get to.either the plates are warped,i presume you know how to adjust cable?or the engine oil has not been changed every other trial.using mobile one does engine world of good and helps stops the clutch grapping.dont bother with any other oil.
  7. plenty of ty80s about still, good reliable bike,do up keep for couple of years then get your money back. TXTs very badly made most are scrapped or sold on ebay as needing attension someone elses problem.fantic 80s were are pretty good bike, where have they all gone? im guessing to make a new small bike cost nearly as much as adult bikes, but they would not sell not enough bikes to make them.
  8. convert bolts to allen bolts then you need less kit.
  9. as above.never ever try bending float to stop leaking.thats not the problem.float needle not seating is the problem.adjusting air screw wont help either.only adjust after bike running correctly, about 1 and half to 2 turns, after feeling screw going home lightly.
  10. red one and pink one same bike, just couple of years newer.slighty better clutch on pink one, thats about it.allways mobile one oil, clutch less grabby.
  11. i thought only the rtl had cable to rear brake drum?the tlr had a metal rod.the Yamaha it250 had a cable to rear drum.
  12. don't worry,its a four stroke.
  13. 0.9 is after a engine rebuild,so totatly empty.so normal oil change is 0.8.ive had tl150,tlr200,tlr250,and a mate had rtl250,ive now got Honda 2 stroke trials bikes.im a bit of a Honda nut.all these bikes ive allways used mobile one,
  14. 0.8 is correct amount, but I would get a dipstick,a old cb100-125 should be the same.use mobile one oil.the clutch is better less graping when hot.change every other trial.
  15. leave it alone, then you may use it.if restoring it you wont want to ride it.looks all good to me.do what it needs to ride in a trial.have some fun.
  16. air screw is tick over only,so wont be that.lower the needle one slot.
  17. just needs a electric horn,a battery one of a push bike will do.and speedo, dont matter if works, but legaly it does but who is going to know?if any lights fitted they must work,so take them of,and get a daytime mot.brake light etc not needed.
  18. bit late now, stripping bike down to do up is wrong way round.best way is get it all sorted first, get it running nice,do some trials more sorting out, replace parts as you go.then strip it and do up.
  19. was bike ok before?its no good changing jets if it was.the idle screw only afects tick over, going over tick over makes no difference on idle screw.so if its suddenly started to run rich its proberly flooding, replace float needle and its houseing 1st.you have cleaned out air filter?are you sure its not burning gear oil sucking through crank case seal on clutch side?
  20. hi steve, they are the same seller, just opened new acccount, the paving slabs in photo are the same.richard.
  21. simple make sections flowing.but then modern bikes are so easy to ride it will be hard to take any marks.non stop is silly idea.how are the observers going to mark the riders?
  22. are you sure you hve a tl125 engine fitted, not cb125?the tl125 should run lights of engine not batttery.the ignition side runs of 1 coil on stator.the only reason for battery is to run horn-brake light-neutral light.the cb 125 engine charges the battery and everything runs from battery.
  23. im a big honda fan,i started with tl 125 great little bike.then went onto tlr 200 then tlr 250,i rode rtl 250 lots of times fantastic bikes.but then bought tlm 240,rode it few years im afraid to say the tlm 240 best bike ive ever rode.ive ridden the tlm 250 not bad but power comes in to fast for me.ive rdden the tlm 260 but too much for me.in a soot out yes the 260 would thrash the rtl.
  24. yes i agree 4 psi rear,i like a bit more in front.
  25. thanks for the link what a great find.
