  1. Hi you say you were quoted 400. - 400 of what? Dollars Pounds Pennies Pasetas? I had a 99 Techno and had to change a stator - was told a common fault - I am guessing you are not in GB?There are a couple of firms that rewind them here so it is possible to do so try localy?
  2. I agree a standard system regarding colours would be good, but reading other posts, some are exactly opposite to others, so who is willing to change? Still say a triangular marker < > of any colour combination - indicating which side to past is pretty easy to follow.
  3. As small vans go -a bike will fit in a berlingo/caddy but coner to corner.
  4. You could use a triangle shaped marker with the point showing which side of obstacle to pass on -ect < > . I have ridden in different centres and found this pretty easy to follow. As to which colours, everybody does it differently, but i agree nothing worse than missing a marker.
  5. Did,nt it imply in the article in TMX that this bill WILL be kicked out, or am i miss reading it ?
  6. Because they take good care of themselves or have people who know how to look after them being paid full time. The F1 training programs i've seen have been excellent. The stuff i've seen mx and trials riders normally ranks alongside a standard gym user which is poor for them never mind a pro. The sport take its toll on riders so they obviously need every helping hand they can get to maintain their health and vitality. Train don't drain would be an answer.. George Forman won a world title at 45!!!!! I think that defeats any talk about fittness/condition - a obese man with a choice of 5 titles and a opponent of choice -Bad example if you are looking for a world class sportsman.
  7. Many thanks - I would miss most of this if it was,nt for these posts !!!!
  8. Good answers - always ready to learn! Thanks
  9. Just thinking about the general move to 4 strokes - Why are the new generation of bikes water and not air cooled? I would be interested in your thoughts on this.My pros/ cons on air are- Pros -Lightness Cons-Temp control Noise Cost Simplicity Ease of maintence Cost I am sure someone will come up with more to add to either list but IFAIK even temperature is easier to achieve on a 4 stroke due to 50% less firing strokes? Also with good metallurgy / ceramic technology it should be possible to overcome any problems, as to noise, most is due to exhaust note not engine noise anyway, just my thoughts - always willing to learn.
  10. As for the factory fitted kill switch, most poeple change them to a yammy style one - original one has reliablity issues
  11. bo drinker - what about a ossa with a front disc? Were you at Wye valley on sunday? No results on website yet.

    Sprocket Size?

Hi, Comes as standard with 10/42 sprockets - i am running 10/38 as i found i was,nt using first [ too low ] so i geared it up. Have a look at whats on the bike now and if its suits you, stick with it
  13. Changed plug first - little noticeable inprovement - then pilot jet - lot easier starting, so i suppose you could credit the jet change for the improvement, but i think the combination of the two works very well and very happy i found it
  14. Hi, When doing a trial, i noticed my 05 290 was,nt starting as good as my mates on the same bike, anyway cut a long story short - i changed to a platinium plug [bp5vx] i think, please check - changed pilot jet to 36 and it transformed the starting - easy fix
  15. I can see both sides of the arguement - i am no spring chicken myself, but the thread for this topic was whats worth more?Buy a twin shock for lots of reasons - but to make money, I,am not so sure.Big John has a big collection of bikes, but did he buy any for solely monetary gain ? I think history - knowledge -ect has got more too do with it. P.S I do own a twinshock too
  16. I agree with feetupfun totally -Who are going to buy the bikes mentioned earlyer in 20yrs? I think it is a generation thing.Young riders starting out would prefer a gasser to any twinshock you care too name.Think - why do you own your bike -Had it for years -Wanted it years ago but no money -Sentimental reasons? None of these apply to youngsters, and these are the future bike buyers,so a very limited market if you want too sell too make money.Just my honest opinion and not ment to upset any one and i hope to be here in 20yrs to see if iam correct Youth is wasted on the young!

    Side Stand Spring

If your stand is bent, then by all means straighten it out - but check that the sidestand bracket hasnt moved - there are 2 allen studs holding it on to the swingarm.

    2004 290

Hi, re-fitting the airbox on my 05 290 is very easy - that plastic shroud peice you mention dosnt get in the way so i keep it on, might help to keep some **** out of airbox? When you put the carb back on, put the rubber inlet on to the carb - not on the box -tighten it up - you might want to round off the edges [ like when fitting OSMA piping ] -lightly oil the airbox stub and gently push.I found i had to enlarge one of the two holes on the bracket that holds the rear of the airbox as they were slightly out of line with the brass insets. Does the slide snap shut nicely? The radiator cap IS a nightmare! I managed to get mine on by pushing it forward with one finger and turning it using a screwdriver on the grooves on the cap, it can be done beleive me but it is VERY fiddly. Best of luck Ryan Youngs website is excellent for tips -Sherco USA i think.
  19. Thanks for the info - Keep up the good work

  21. Hi, If its just suface rust on the nipples, just clean them off,put a new rim tape on,and, its my opinion, others might differ, put in a tyre sealant -GOOP -Dr Sludge - etc. Best of luck because there are lots of posts on this subject, and lots of answers.

    Beta Wheels Bearings

Hi, The rs in the 6004rs stands for rubber seal - one tip i was given was to prise off the seals - get as much of the grease out as poss - and re-pack with good quality waterproof grease- might help them last a bit longer
  23. Hi, I,ve put that sealer in -Dr Sludge - i think it was called, anyway the fitter at our local trials shop recomended it and said -When you change the tyre next, scoop the stuff out with your hand + put it in the new one - I hav,nt changed tyres yet so we shall see!
  24. Hi, bike was running a bit off,so carb off[twice] -no joy- then read JOHN-Bs post about the 2 small drillings on the intake side of carb - blew through - re-fitted - PERFECTION -The advice on this site is second to none -Many Thanks
  25. What did you find? asking for future referance Cheers
