  1. As an engineer you should be well familiar with tolerances and the reason we have them, unfortunately for yourself the 'super cub' has been manufactured outside of 'acceptable' tolerances and does not 'fit' the current specification for classic trials. Personally I don't see a problem with the Otter as it's silhouette is that of a 'classic' trials bike, your problem here is that it's frame and engine were never produced during the 'classic' trials era. The frame is a new design based on tweaks made to conforming 'classic' frames and the engine is a tweaked 'replica' of an engine from the 'classic' period. So yes if you want to use either in a trials series you are going to have to organise trials for this type of machine.
  2. As toetoe says Earl Shilton is probably your best bet, there's a trial on this Sunday 29th March, directions are on the website, come along and see what goes on, have a chat and get some advice Another club local to you is Leamington Victory most trials will be held in the evening from now till autumn, they occasionally hold a practice session at their home ground. There's also Nene Valley and Loughborough which are a little further but within an hours drive from Rugby
  3. I would have thought that to be considered 'classic styled' any trials bike would have to have a front down tube or tubes and that the engine was cradled by the frame or frame and bash plate. Although one could label the C90 as a 'classic' and of spine frame construction, it was originally a step through design with leading link front suspension, which the 'super cub trials' is clearly not. To modify a bike to such an extent beyond it's original design and silhouette and then expect it to be allowed into a category with bikes that have not been modified in such a way is, in my opinion unsportsmanlike. As has already been said, there's nothing stopping you riding this bike for fun, which I believe was your original concept, as for building a cheap classic trials bike, there are plenty of bantam frames on ebay for less than £100
  4. Here's a couple of training videos that might help you Camber turns Uphill/downhill
  5. Water pump seal is a possibility, the bottom cylinder gasket looks fine around the coolant port. Have you been riding through water at all? if so check were your gearbox breather pipe runs, if it's pointing down there's a chance you've sucked up water in to the crankcase, if it's pointing up there also a chance you've jet washed water into in. But if the water is in both the gearbox and crankcase there must be a seal gone between the two. Play it safe and strip, clean, replace all seals, crank bearings and gaskets

    Helppppp!

Have you checked any voltages with a multi meter? From Stator approx 24v A.C. From Voltage regulator approx 12v A.C. if only one wire from regulator to rectifier then the regulator must be earthed usually via the fixing screw From Rectifier approx 12v D.C. Here's a wiring diagram from a Gas Gas, the wire colours may be different but the principal and where they come from and go to should be the same
  7. RJ in Hotel Street may not be a Yamaha dealer but according to their website they specialise in Yamaha two strokes It's a left hand kick in the photo you posted
  8. There's a couple of motorcycle shops in Coalville, one of which specialises in yamaha two strokes, perhaps go have a chat with them.
  9. If you google the density of the oil you're using and measure the temperature of the oil, just to make it more confusing, oil's density changes with temperature, which is why they've probably specified the amount of oil by weight, i.e. it's volume will change with temp but it's mass will stay the same. But I agree 550mls seems about right at 20 degrees celsius
  10. Are you sure it gives the quantity by weight? Measuring oil in grams just doesn't seem right Anyway density of oil is somewhere between 850kg/m3 to 900kg/m3 500g at 900kg/m3 1litre would weight 900g so 500g would be 555ml (edit) Density of ATF oil is approx 865kg/m3 this would equate to 500g being 578ml
  11. Plus could you make a brew in the back of a pick up whilst it's chucking down - cus ya can in a van
  12. Your welcome Alex it was good to meet you and the best thing about having newb's come along is that it makes my score look better, glad you had a great day, the grin should last a fair few days
  13. I'm guessing there are three boxes, a CDI, a rectifier and a voltage regulator, you'll need all three
  14. No worries Motosolex, added writing by opening photo with microsoft paint and adding text box. There's no need to upgrade the shifter on my best bike, it's like new, but on the renovation project the one with the crud, I'm going to look at making the modification myself as have access to a lathe.
  15. I brought a pair of the Wulfsport neoprene and found that they were a bit undersized.
  16. Ok so I've stripped my best bike apart, look no crud. Here's detailed photo of how it all goes together, the larger side of the flange on the shift lever is definitely outermost.
  17. As it happens I've just stripped one apart, I noted that the larger side of the flange is outermost and the shift lever should point at the gear lever shaft with more or less an equal space either side of the shift lever. Apologies for all the crud but it's a photo I took whilst stripping it apart. I'd make sure it is in neutral when assembling as this will keep everything centralised.
  18. My first trial back in January 2014 my score was 149, nearly a year later in December 2014 I managed a score of 22 Your score will get better, you'll learn loads in the first year, your confidence will build and your technique will improve. As for going up hills, sometimes less throttle is better than too much, as beginners we tend to think we need more power then we do to get up the hill, which is one of the reasons the front end comes up.
  19. Any chance either 1) the shifter lever (one with slot in) is a tooth out on the spline or in back to front. 2) it was already in a gear when you fitted assembly.
  20. When you say application form, do you mean the trials entry form? If so just take it with you and hand it in on the day.
  21. No proof of ownership/paperwork ask to take a photo of their driving licence or other form of I.D. ask if they mind you taking VIN number to police to check out. Never forget that anyone can forge a receipt which may make you think the bike is legit.
  22. I believe Hawks Cheltenham and Peaks Classic have classes for Air cooled mono's, there are other clubs which will let you ride in a special category or if you're over 60, it just depends what neck of the woods you live in whether there is a club near you.
  23. Hi Fitz, I take it you have an ACU licence sorted, if so get yourself down there on the 8th Feb, aim to arrive 9 - 9.30, go have a look at the sections first, if you feel confident fill out an entry form (white route) and have a go, if not then stick around, grab a cuppa and a burger, have a wonder round, watch what goes on, have a chat and think about spending £50 on a practice membership, it'll help boost your confidence. Hopefully I'll be there TY175 red brake & clutch levers, blue helmet, stop and say Hi
