  1. Leamington Victory MCC and Stratford MCC run trials in your area, both are on facebook, Leamington has it's own website, Stratford's is coming soon I believe, a bit further afield is Hawks Cheltenham
  2. The biggest steepest hill you can make
  3. Well there's a couple of points I can agree with you, we could all do with better management and I also hope that this situation does not turn out bad for any of us. As for the football I personally don't give two hoots who wins but I do like to see the underdog take the lead now and again.
  4. There's nothing wrong in taking care of the elderly and making sure every child has a decent education, imo these should be forefront in the everyone's mind. But here's a bigger picture: If you are going to assist farmers by subsidising their income to make them competitive in the world market, make sure you are helping each farmer equally and certainly don't pay them money for leaving their fields barren or producing more food than the market requires Make no mistake, anyone who leaves their own country to work or reside in another country, doesn't do it because that country has failed to provide skills training for it's children or failed to motivate it's own unemployed workforce to get off their backside, those who migrate do it purely for their own and their children's benefit and for no one else. Now whilst I don't blame any man for wanting a better life for himself and his family, if the cost of his better life means that my own family has to suffer poorer education, reduced access to health services, less chance of landing a job and an increase in housing costs, don't be surprised if one day I turn round and say: "Sorry mate but this situation cannot continue, you've either got to stop drinking so much beer or take a break from coming on these annual holidays, if you're not prepared to do either, then for the sake of my own self, I have no option but to make that decision for you"
  5. Sounds like a good holiday! Now here's a different scenario: You go on holiday with 27 mates, some like cycling others don't, some like walking etc etc You all end up sitting on the beach, yourself and 9 others of the group contribute various amounts of cash to buy beer for everyone, due to financial circumstances the other 18 couldn't contribute to the kitty. The next morning you wake, count up the bottles and find that the 18 have drank more than their fare share. Because everyone seems to have had a great holiday, you all make a pact to do the same again next year and every year after that. After about 40 years you declare to the group that you won't be coming next year as you have decided to go on holiday on your own for a change, the other 27 members try to convince you that you'll be lonely and will have to drink on your own You reply to them, "lonely? you must be joking, where I'm going, there's 17 million folk who feel the same way as I do and with the cash I'll save from having to chip in every year for the extra beer, I'll be able to afford an extra days holiday
  6. In six years time a 2006 4rt will still be more or less the price you paid for it now, however a 2011/12 beta will be less, another thing to think about is parts availability and price i.e. a new replacement mudguard (no decals) for a 4rt is £25 and with a bit of fettling will fit the older models, a replacement mudguard (with decals) for an evo is £90 but in a few years time they'll be like rocking horse poo. What ever you decide make sure you give it a good look over especially frame and swinging arm for cracks. Good luck
  7. Have a look here http://www.airshaft.co.uk/airshaft_spare_parts-valves.asp If not search google for 'schrader tank valve uk' you'll need to find out what size the thread is in the fork cap

    4Rt Valve Check

Because of Backlash You need to be at TDC on the compression stoke i.e. after the inlet valve has closed - not after the exhaust has closed suck squeeze This TDC bang blow not this TDC
  9. Try getting the magnet out of the lanyard, turn it over and replace, this should reverse the poles. The Apico switch works by the magnet attracting a metallic disc inside the switch (I'm not sure if the disc is a magnet) when the lanyard is removed a spring pushes the disc against two contacts which then shorts the circuit to earth.
  10. It was on a 4rt and possibly with the Honda locking nuts, there was no sign of any locking nuts when I realised what had happened, I'm going to go with nylock nuts and a dab of loctite when it goes back together. Thanks for the complement, no distortion - arm was firmly clamped in position before welding, only a bit of powder coating damage from the heat. Same here felt a slight dragging after an off, a couple of us looked at it and put it down to the brake disc being slightly warped. Carried on riding until the dragging became very bad, had another look and noticed aluminium shavings on swinging arm.
  11. Don't ask me how, but two of my rear sprocket bolts came out yesterday and did this to my swinging arm Thankfully I have access to a TIG welder here's the repair All finished ready to put back on Check your sprocket bolts
  12. In my zipped pants pocket, If you google 'magnetic key box' for a few quid you can buy a magnetic box that you put keys in. Alternatively attach a small hook to your keys and hang them off the suspension coil behind a wheel. A problem with leaving them in the car i.e. under the seat, is that if for some unknown reason your central locking decides to lock itself you are stuffed
  13. I'm going with - The shaft isn't hardened. The rubber seal hardens with age Initially the carbon particles in the rubber seal abrade the shaft producing minute particles of steel which embed themselves in the rubber seal. The surface of the seal in contact with the shaft then becomes like sand paper and abrades the shaft even further.
  14. Judging by the figures below - a trial entry fee and a gallon of petrol are a bargain now when compared to 1975 1975 2015 % increase Average wage/year £ 2,300 26,500 1152 Cost of gallon of petrol £ 0.73 4.60 630 Entry fee of a trial £ 2.00 12-15 600-750 Montesa Cota £ 500 approx 5500 1100 Figures are taken from various publications of the period and internet resources

    Beta 2009 4 Stroke

£2k sounds about right for a road reg 2009 Beta 4T evo, maybe a little overpriced if not regd, but i depends what condition it's in, they are quite rare though. If by any chance it's a 4t rev 3 model then 2k is too expensive
  16. I think it's just extra damp at this time of year, there's not been much sunshine around of late, so mine sits in the back room next to the radiator
  17. Are you turning your fuel tap off when bike is not being used? Does your fuel tap work? From cold, with no choke, kick it over a couple of times (no more) take the plug out, is it soaking wet?
  18. I'd go with the above. As it was running fine and the only thing you've added was a deluge of rain water, I'd stick to wet dirty carb and possibly water in ignition. TY's like their pilot jet and passage ways clear otherwise they bog down on opening the throttle. When you say you cleaned the carb out, have you stripped it down completely and given it a dosing of carb cleaner (remove and#39;O' rings first or you'll be sorry) then blown all the jets through with a compressor and then left it to dry indoors overnight?
  19. Tick over is quite high at 1800rpm +/- 100rpm according to manual, as for starting issue when cold, I did find that a slower kick when cold helped starting this weekend.
  20. Is it a one off event or does the tube creep every time you reset it? If it's a one off i.e. you've fitted a new tyre or tube and after riding you've noticed the inner tube has crept, I'd guess that when it's been fitted the tube has more stretch on one side of the valve than the other and once ridden the tube is just finding it's natural position, this usually happens because when fitting, the valve is inserted into rim, then the tube is fed into tyre and on to the rim by working in one direction only, instead of working equally in both directions away from the valve. Is there not a locking nut on the valve stem (some old boys leave these off to prevent the valve being ripped out should the tyre move on the rim)
  21. The yellow ones look like they are made from reinforced concrete and probably weigh nearly half a ton each, they are also ratchet strapped together. The blue ones are either steel, timber or concrete maybe a mixture of all three, they'll either be weighed down by filling with concrete or sand, maybe special straps holding them together or bolted to the floor.
  22. Yes I think we have had the odd conversation up at Earl Shilton, did your Beamish have a red/silver tank? Good luck with the bike purchase See you on the 13th
  23. There were some changes to engines and frames around that time maybe just before or maybe just after depending on the make and model, mainly to do with weight and performance. Bikes change all the time it was more about age and condition for the money.
  24. Adj in all fairness if you had ridden a 2007 for a few years and then got a newer model say a 2012, I dare say that you would notice a difference when comparing the two bikes, but if you haven't ridden a 2007 before then you have nothing to compare it against. I guess the main difference would be the weight, but it will only be a few kilos difference, however some say less weight is not always a good thing. The experts will have a new bike every year or two, reason being that if they don't then they are at a disadvantage to those who do. When you're at beginners level it's slightly different, you have to master balance, clutch and throttle control, judge the terrain, pick the right route, learn the different techniques to get over different obstacles and until you have got those under your belt a newer model isn't going to make that much of a difference to your riding ability. There are plenty of old boys out there that turn up on a seemingly beaten up pre65s or old twinshocks with drum brakes and they just walk all over the modern bikes ridden by beginners. Sometimes it's just best to pick a bike you fancy learn on that and then when have the basics mastered treat yourself to something newer. It really is all about whether you want to be highly competitive or just have a lot of fun messing about on a bike in the mud. Highly competitive = newer bike, having fun = anything will do Once you start riding you'll have more opportunities to chat to other riders and maybe have a try on their bikes, the problem for a beginner is the amount of choice you have, 2 stroke, four stroke, 2007 model, 2010 model, 2012 model, 200cc, 250cc, 260cc 290cc 300cc, beta, scorpa, gasgas, sherco, jotagas etc etc. Pick yourself a nice condition 200 or 250 that you like the look of and that's within your budget, then go practice falling off.
