  1. Grab a trials bike... Learn the art of Trials. Static balance for 5 minutes motor off. Fig8's. Enter a trial or two and minimum dabs. Transfer new skills to a 4 stroke enduro 250cc with stock pipe. Ride the trails using trials skills on enduro when needed. I've seen people doing trials on an enduro bike. If you dont get addicted to trials sell bike and keep enduro. Mags
  2. Enjoy it while you can... we are parked next to a Supernova! Once the core collapses we are cosmic dust in a nanosecond. Mags
  3. Hidden camera with motion sensor that records on movement??? Scumbags! Mags

    Montesa Cota 247

Very, very well done, mate! We should take a vote to ban any further pics of that bike on the forum! (cheekySmirk,Wink) Mags

  6. The Ridge (Danny MacAskill) is an excellent production. Just the scenery alone could make non-riders come away pleased. Then there is the emotional music. Then the phenomenon that is Danny M. Grab Doug or Tony and put effort into the production through location, backing track and careful editing and I think the hits may go substantially up. There is the one he does called "Industrial" or something like that?... and it showcases his skills much more than in The Ridge. He rides his bike down a rope for a start and jumps railway tracks from track to track with the tyres never falling off the rails. Having been on two wheels (motorised) for decades I find the vids extremely entertaining and awe inspiring. As would most people at TC. Even my 15 yr old daughter loves sitting with her dad for a good youtube session on the big screen watching MacAskill, Bou, Raga, Bristow and the like. Dougie would be pretty famous in the British Isles... as would Bou in Europe??? Surely? Does Danny M ride a trials motorcycle at all? I swear in The Ridge he says, " I often wondered if I could ride my motorbike along the ridge". Mags
  7. I clean my filters in plain kerosene... all 5 of the damn things! Then wash with dishwashing liquid and air dry in shade. I have spare ones and rotate so dont have wait for drying. I use mineral motor oil to oil them as synth seems to have a weird surface tension on the foam cell size.... weird! I soak with oil (cheap box of examination gloves for hands) and then squeeze excess out and good to go. It it still seems too oily I have wrapped filter in lint free rag and squeezed again to remove excess. If you wipe clean finger over filter surface and it comes back shiny with oil (not frank oil on finger) thats enough oil in filter. Mags EDit: Bike is looking great by the way!
  8. The montesa comes here as a shipment... my boxed Monty said 11 of 14 on outside. I assume it was shipping container with 14 individually boxed bikes inside. Here is a pic of the crate as I picked it up from freight depot. It travelled about 950k's from dealer to me. And a pic of crate opened... the only thing to fit is the bars as they are packed vertically beside head stem. Go over EVERY fastener as I found a few not done up. Mags
  9. Heather, Very refreshing to see a young person with buckets of enthusiasm to get stuck into it! You should be very proud of yourself! Your bike will give it back to you in spades when out there having a ball or even better, you get to comps! My wife has said "You ever get to our neck of the woods (Australia) her Beta 4T is yours to ride". Mags
  10. G'day Ben, Loved watching another BenVid! Good work on the bike, mate! Catching up to me! (cheekySmirk) How bloody addictive are these Trials bikes, huh! I wish we had an area to practice in our city instead of travelling 140k's! One day maybe! You might have seen the post I put up for my wife's first trial comp. I did the comp as well but did not get any decent go pro stuff. Didn't even get time for a few stills or to complete the comp! Only got 22 of 40 sections done but we had a ball. Had 4.5 hrs to complete and only had time for a quick bite and drinks and into it again. Here is a pic of my score cards... I'm stoked with it as an over 55 yr old in "intro"! My goal is to now complete a 40 section... and then on to a 40 section with a big fat zero! Dreamy stuff huh!! Mags
  11. Oil weight (viscosity) is set by the manufacturer engineers and is influenced by several factors with one being engine tolerances. Ambient temps and oil system pressures verses flow all effect the required viscosity. The 2012/2103 from memory spec'd a 15w-50 BUT my 2014 specs 10w-50... they also want a full synth. It also spec's Panolin Oils which I was able to get in 10w-50 synthetic here is Australia. It looks like this supply chain will dry up and once my bottle is empty I'lll use another brand. Leading this race (pun intended) is Motul as they have a 10w-50 in full synth. Hope the clutch stays the same as my wife is used to the clutch action on the Panolin. I'm loathe to move away from the manufacturer specified viscosity in any engine unless at extremes of climate, as in, I'd run a 5w-40, 5w-50 in cold winters and run a 15w-50, 20w-50 in our 40 deg C summers. You may also be able to look at Motorex? The Motorex is spec'd in my wife's KTM which runs 11,000 rpm and has a massive 49 hp for a single cylinder 373cc. I'm using a 15w-50 in that as spec'd by KTM. Only in a semi-synth though and changed shorter than spec'd intervals. I change the oil and filter in the Beta every 20 hrs on the hour meter not guessed. I'm paying $104 per 5 litre bottle for Panolin and about $95 for the Motul. Castor oil is for 2 stroke cylinder lubrication it will not have the shear protection when shearing forces from the gearbox kill it really quick. Its mainly the gear shear that drops oils out of viscosity. The Penrite full synth I use in my Jackpot (15w-50) is "shear free" for the change interval. Has a very high zinc level (ZDDP) as anti-wear not friction modifiers so exceeds JASO MA2 and is a motorcycle oil. I doubt you'll see Penrite outside of OZ? Mags
  12. Whew! Just in time for Santa to drop it under tree! I'm on the waiting list for a Repsol but I'm not holding my breath! Mags
  13. The guts of the story seems to be... you cant prevent it and just repair or replace as necessary? The longest repair was 5 years and it seemed to be related to the type and brands of coolant used. (ethylene verses propylene?) I noted the coolant used to get 5 years was Motul Motocool Factoryline Organic. Might be a good one to use if available??? More research maybe? Don't forget to NOT mix coolant types or brands, a good flush is necessary. Look up Engine Ice and have a peek at their recommendations to flush system using plain vinegar and water. This issue must have reared its ugly head here on TC? Try a search and see what comes up if you have not already? Mags
  14. Heather, Grab your favourite beverage and have a read over this thread. May shed some light on your issue? Mags http://www.trials.com.au/forum/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4635
  15. Welcome to the addiction... Speaking of Dukes... I have a 1982 Mike Hailwood Replica I bought new. Oh yeah... and a 1971 Mk 3 450 basket case I purchased in 84', will get to it one day! Hehehehe Mags

    Pop Up Ads

I have one on screen now.... "Motorcycle Race Gear" Ad... dont want them, subscribe to TC as supporter. Some of us look at motorcycles... AND some NOT! Hehehehehe Mags
  17. I do low height front wheel ups by clutch "sort of" consistent now. If the trials planets align I can static... then turn bars straight and pull front up from static. Much more practice needed doing this to be consistent ... I'll get there. Teaches front up clutch control real "quick"! Hehehehe I tried a few higher which forces you to cover brake, least you flip it and run behind bike til it drops back down.... ask me how I know that! Hehehehehe A little tip... I remove the tail section when practicing higher lifts! If you miss time the application of brake... you flip and run behind bike, the mega dollar tail piece is not broken or bent, ending up with bruised plastic or elongated holes at rear attachment points... if it goes over too far and touches ground! Practice high ones for 20 mins and bolt tail back on... resume normal practice! Mags

    H&d Racing

Its a bugger we have to pay mega dollars for freight to Antipodes! It can double the price of a part if it has a bit of weight or volume. Plus the British Pound is not favourable to our dollar at the moment. Luv some of the titanium stuff they have.... Mmmmmmm, Trials Candy! Would not mind a spare tail section as well... Mags
  19. Thank you everyone! I have created a monster!!! Hehehehehe And why not! Like the sticker says on her swingarm... Mags

    What Is This?

Mate! I'd have that as garden art! Under cover in a cactus rock garden or just a good gravel and rocked area with the bike angled up on a boulder. Make a man out of steel tube and place on it. Mags
  21. Post away Ben! We are "in" for a peek at the vid! By the way are you using GoPro edit software? Mine is not converting or if it does its corrupted. I'll have a peek at version and do upgrade if one available. Mags
  22. At the outset can I just say I'm as proud of her as she is of herself. It was a big undertaking at 50 yrs of age to want to hop on a motorcycle for the first time (Jan 2014) and a trials bike at that!!! I had a fair bit of influence on the bike choice! Hehehehe Last Sunday we entered the trial held at Gap Creek here in Southern Queensland, Australia. It was jointly held by the Southern Queensland Trials Association and the Logan River Moto Trials Club. We arrived on the Saturday and camped the night at Gap Creek, our usual haunt on the bikes. Dropped to 5 deg C overnight so was not too cold but caught us out a bit... the last gasp of winter. Sunday morning saw us entered and kitted up for great day. We are lucky enough to have helmet comms. This gave us the ability to walk the sections and chat about where we would try to put the wheels without yelling or waving. It also was a great aid when we could not even see each other but still communicate... as in, arhhhhhh, don't come down this hill on bike, stop up top and walk down to see section. As beginners we ran the "Intro" class and the first 6 sections were achievable but sections 7-10 were a challenge. We did the full 10 sections for round 1 but as we eventually ran out of time we just did the first 6 for round 2 and 3. We did not get to complete any of round 4. We had an absolute ball! I cannot rate the experience high enough. It has been a dream for us for 8 months and to finally be able to be in a comp together was just amazing. We laughed, we baulked at hills, we lived on adrenalin, at times, in the more challenging sections. Although we dabbed quite a bit neither of us fell over on the bikes! I took a tumble spotting for Cindy, looking at her my boot hit solid rock and over I went... to the amusement of all!!! Thats a five!! Ahahahahahahaha No injury, just pride! Hehehehe. I would like to thank the organisers and competitors for a great experience. Most of all I'd like to thank the volunteer observers who stayed at sections for hours clicking our score cards. I tip my helmet to you all... 100% respect!!!! I only have pics taken from screen as my Gopro Edit Software seems to be corrupted and needs a reinstall. Apologies for quality. Thank you to everyone on this site that has encouraged us and given advice. Would have taken much longer without it, thats for sure! Mags (and Cindy)
  23. Nice Motocicletta Ben! I think I see a spec of dirt, 8th spoke from 12 o clock, clockwise, on the front wheel!!! (electronMicroscopeWink) Mags
  24. Motorcycling Australia 2014 Manual of Motorcycle Sport - 23. Trial states... The machine crosses a boundary with either wheel, that wheel being on the ground - 5 points It doesn't say "any" part of the wheel, just says wheel, so thats the whole whole wheel has to cross? Doesn't say tyre? It also states... Argue with an Official - 10 points. Geez! I'm not gonna even look at them sideways! Mags
  25. G'day Mark, The last three pics are out of bounds now. Strictly, they were always out of bounds just policed very enthusiastically now. We can use those sections when a trials comp is on but at "all other times", no more in the big creek. Seems the enduro/motocross riders complained they were not allowed in so why should we be... its also a sensitive area with greenpeace/animal liberation/do gooders/save the planet from the trials riders mob, the local council, land care, state government and 10 more probably. There are plenty of areas still "testing" for higher grades and many more for beginners to intermediate. No biggie really! Its a funny world sometimes! Mags
