  1. Landrover-- I'm 85kM Southwest of Lancaster. Do you know someone there? Richard
  2. I always try to land under my bike when I fall, I mean I used to, but I don't fall anymore. My philosophy is, I mean was, that I'm insured, but the bike's not. Cheers
  3. Lucerne Valley, California. Richard
  4. Sounds like a perfect time to work on the mower! Richard
  5. Welcome to the Beta clan! That's a good looking bike. It's amazing how unscathed a picture can make a bike look. But when you get up close and personal, blemishes start jumping out at you. Remember, there're two kinds of riders: those who have fallen down, and those who are going to fall down. Most riders don't land under the bike when they fall, so the bike ends up getting scratched and broken. You've just got to accept that when you buy a used bike. I bought a bike from a National Champ class rider that had some pretty good scratches already, so I didn't have to worry about scratching my new bike. Richard
  6. Hugo-- If you leave a protrusion on the fork tube it will damage the seal. A small dent that does not protrude will not. Use a file or course sand paper on a hard block to knock any protrusion down, then sand smooth with fine sandpaper. If there is any leaking it will only be when the dent is passing the seal. If you leave a protrusion that damages the seal, it will always leak. Repair it, what do you have to lose? Richard
  7. (Beta) Geoff Aaron is about as short as you (Beta) and he's had success on Gas-Gas and on Beta. I never noticed any (Beta) handlebar risers on his bikes. I tried to keep (Beta) any subliminal message out of this post, but my recommendation is definitely Beta. All seriousness aside, you can't go wrong with any of the newer bikes. Cheers, Richard

Ron Commo Sr. at Beta USA is a great source of setup information for these bikes. You can email him herewinrcs1@aol.com Richard
  9. Not me, 'cause I know the Beta is better than both of 'em! Richard
  10. Clarkp-- Pretty close, I'm in Thousand Oaks. Pilots have to adjust for drift in their compasses, maybe your GPS has the same? Do you ever get out here to SoCal? Richard
  11. Thanks for taking up the task of running the mctrials email list. However, the registration process is so strict that it is not allowing me to register. I keep getting error messages because it does not accept my email address, which has a defunct domain name because Earthlink bought the provider. I sent an email to the owner of micapeak, but he chose to ignore my request for help. I thoroughly enjoyed the advice provided, as well as the cameraderie, on the previous mctrials list, and hopefully will again in the future. Unfortunately, I have no way to access this list as it is now. Thanks again, Richard
  12. You're in a class of your own, Ringo. If you ask, they will probably create a Ringo class. I bet you'd win, too! Richard
  13. The bike manufacturers did away with warranties about the time Ringo started riding. I wonder if there's a connection??!! Richard
  14. Hey JW-- Thanks for coming out to our event, it's great to have a professional photographer taking pictures instead of our shaky clubmembers (except Astrolounger, he takes good pics). I've looked at most of the pics you have here and they look great. Needless to say, I love the terrain. I wish you could have made it out to the section I was checking since it had some stuff that intimidated even some of the seasoned veterans. Unfortunately, my section was the furthest one from camp, about 180 miles I think. Thanks again, Richard
  15. I think you mean the 371 to Hemet. We don't want anyone getting lost out there.
  16. The '94 Technos were yellow. Richard
  17. He means that the 10-40 is thinner than the 20-30 when cold (the 10 and 20 parts) and thicker than the 20-30 when hot (the 40 and 30 parts). An oil rated 10-40 is supposed to be 10 wt cold and 40 wt hot. The 20-30 oil is supposed to be 20 wt cold and 30 wt hot. I'm so confused now my head hurts. Cheers, Richard
  18. Unless you ride like...a friends brother (not me, honest). The top ends up at the bottom and would leak just the same. Glad I don't ride like that! Cheers, Richard
  19. I always coat the o-ring liberally with the thickest grease I can find. That helps hold the o-ring in place, and also helps to seal the joint. Cheers, Richard
  20. I always use inline filters on my bikes. It is much better for the filter to trap the dirt than it is the carburetor. The orifices in the jets are extremely small compared to the flow area through the screen in a filter. If you use a clear filter you can see when it is getting too much dirt in it. (I've never had one get clogged.) Cheers, Richard
  21. You may have tightened the screws too tight. See if you can find a torque spec and use that. Also, make sure the gasket is seated properly in the area near the shifter. If the gasket is compressed too much you will need to replace it. Good luck, Richard
  22. I'd like one too. Richard
  23. I have six of the DVD's and they all play with no problem. Richard
  24. DMX84, and anyone else interested-- Sorry for getting off-topic, I'll throw this in and let the thread get back on topic. el Trial de Espana is not a National event (where you should be an Advanced rider), but has lines for every rider level. Hope you can make it. Richard
