I believe OTF is the one in the know, he has been gathering up as many donor bikes as he can when he has time in between upsetting the Pre 65 Scottish people.....
-
Thanks. I was looking a either the TS piston or the Rex Caunt piston kit, not sure yet, as for forks I can use some TY or whatever and enter the specials class in BMCA, probably only the hub on my bike that is any use for the road boys.. rims etc shot.
-
Jack... so to widen the hubs you don't actually add any material, you just turn the centre round?? as I read it.
The Bantam I have recently bought(rolling frame and engine) is a road D14b(sport?) and has a full width bigger hub which the road boys like apparently so I need to source a hub any way.
-
The rear hub on my Bantam I have just bought is a full width type, not the usual type used for trials, does anyone know if this is just a cover that appeared on the late Bantams ??
-
Is it losing gearbox oil?? If so it will be the crank case oil seal on the clutch side. Check the water level as well.

The Bantam I looked at today had the std rear hub with a very thin sprocket spacer, the engine had not been moved the s/arm had the usual indent so as the tyre cleared. No need for the 500 quid here and 500 there nonsense. And the bike in question does very well in the BMCA events.
-
I have just been looking at a sorted Bantam trials to get some ideas for mine. The rear hub is widened to help splay the spokes, which is (some say) needed to run the 4.00 tyre on a wider rim. Though having said that the bike I looked at didn't have wider hubs and ran the 4.00 tyre fine. ?? I believe it is widened by cutting and welding the centre tube.
Also I believe if you do widen the hub you need to move the engine over in the frame slightly. I am sure somone will add to this or put me right if I am wrong...
-
Personally I would always change the whole thing, not just bearings....
-
I didn't get there but had this sent to me...

Those jackets are the last thing you want for trials, times have changed, they are a fashion thing now.
If you want something that sort of looks like that I bought Black jacket off Wrighty and trousers to match, British made and very good. The trousers are due for renewal due to me burning them on the exhaust and patching them up, I will get some more off him at Telford show.
pm me if you want a number.

Nice ad, thanks for posting..
-
No chance, it is currently a rusty rolling frame and a engine in the back of my van....snowed in. Lucky to be ready for 2012
Currently trawling for all the info I can.
-
Is it right the d7 barrel is preferred for trials as they produce torque as opposed to the 14 is more top end ????
-
Thanks Brian, that gives me a good start. PS I received the drawings you pm'd me. I will sort the engine first as it seems straight forward and then go from there.

I don't know the score with White Bros, but recently the big 4 have been wielding the axe big time to the ones who have not been performing, in many cases not the dealers fault. M/cycling is a leisure pursuit for most not a necessity. Many showrooms round the country are full of mint low mileage bikes. It gets more difficult and expensive to get on the road and take a test etc. The trade is struggling but there are parts that can't keep up with it.
On the road side of things it is a seasonal pursuit, it never used to be and therefore a lot struggle when the sun doesn't shine.
A lot of dealers have down sized in recent years to survive as have other businesses. Things aint what they used to be. Money is tight. There is money out there and people are spending it but it isn't in the lavish ways of recent times.

Thanks for replies. Any ideas which best way to go for the swing arm?? Mod the existing or go for a Cub arm ??

Not round here, most will be working (the trades that can unaffected by weather) until xmas eve as always. Many will not due to temperature, and many will be self employed so b/ hols etc mean jack ****. Oh and it's okay to be s/employed again now due to the boom being over, when there was a boom the I R wanted more from you and wanted all to go paye.
Back on topic the bikes will go up in price, the big boys in road bikes will be offering

I am gathering together the parts to build a Bantam trials to ride the BMCA trials,I have frame/engine and hubs, does anyone here have any pointers on what can be done with the frame, head angles or raising the engine etc.
Not sure what forks to go for, I won't be winning any medals out there but I want a rideable bike.
Up to now I know the gearbox mod to do, going for the 185 conversion from Rex Caunt, pvl or electrex cdi , 12 tooth g/box, f spkt and 60 r wheel.
Anything else worth considering, all info much appreciated.

I have wondered why no one hasn't built a new twinshock 125/ 250. I realise some small players have had a go ie Cotswold etc and there are frame kits but it may be a bit late now as bike sales in general are on their a***.
You can still buy twinshock road bikes and good ones too so why not trials ??
