Copemech, Beta is a 270 had quite a few now, bought Betas since 01 when a new Gasser let me down badly three times in 5 weeks so played it safe build quality wise and went for the Beta. Never really clicked with them but you know they will go the distance and not let you down in the middle of no-where, still want a Gasser as I love the way they ride and feel but just cant bring myself to buy one. Sherco seems the next best option, more like the Gasser than the Beta and from what I have seen recently body position doesnt seem to be as critical on the Sherco as it does on the Beta. I moved my bars a couple of weeks ago and for the first time ever on the 06 stuck them in the right place, always thought it would be a compremise too far forward or too far back but they are spot on now. Been riding alot better because of it and feel happy on the bike at last thats why I am a little anxious over the swap-over at the moment but I think I will get on fine with Blue. Since getting the bars in the correct position I have suddenly found I can do a couple of things I couldnt do before, probably could do them but only when the bike is set up in the right position . I will be spending the first days moving the bars about untill they are spot on and writing the position down in big numbers on the workshop walls so I never forget again. There again I may not need to alter much from the off on the Sherco as it might suit me straightaway and the big numbers on the walls might just say SHERCO instead Might just try some of those guards as well mate, got any pics?

I very nearly bought a 4rt but Dad put me off after a couple of big crashes due to stalling, its next on the list if the Sherco doesnt feel right over the next few weeks.

Thanks for that Copemech last ride on the Beta today, had the bike 12 months now and have only started to ride it right over the past couple of weeks hope i will make the transfer smoothly and not go backwards abit but really looking forward to giving Blue a try at last

Just got back and wanted to say a big thanks to the Club/Observers and everyone involved in the Trial today. Cant beleive I have never rode there before or even heard of the place untill recently, 140 mile round trip was worth every metre of the travelling. The site is quite large and reminded me of Hawksnest in places, biggish step/boulders all very grippy even though it tonked it down all day and the ground stays grippy and doesnt carry up onto the rocks. Nice mixture of sections including logs,steps,big rocks,stream and slippy banks, the course setters did a brilliant job setting out considering what happened when the skies opened this morning. Parking is the best I have ever seen, loads of hard standing and plenty of room. Big entry for a club Trial, probably due to how well the Trials are run and the venue being so well sorted out, the level of riders was really impressive especially the youth riders and I did see a few Experts who must have been under ten or even clean possibly. Rode the first lap with Gizza5 on here, he was showing the young uns the way most of the day and especially on section one first time round where a sneaky new line got him a great clean where the hop skip and jump boys struggled to get through. Good job he went before me as it was without doubt the best route to line up for the rooty turn. Hope to see you over there for the two day Gizza, and great to meet you today. Queues were only ever 5-8 riders on some sections which was very good considering how many entries there were, the whole day seemed to flow well and observers at every section. Had 3 stupid fives (Dont we all, think Gizza did as well) which pretty much doubled my score but for first time there I was pleased with how it went. Every section was well marked out and easy to follow, just about every section was flowing and hopping about was kept to a minimum if you prefered not to. Neon, got mine set one notch leaner from standard, give it a go and keep an eye on the plug to make sure its not too lean. If the bike seems lacking in power abit, it might mean it needs richening up a little

Trialsmm, The stock flywheel is 850 grams so heavier than the one you can see on the site. Ralph had his stock one machined down to about 500 grams i think and he likes the bike with that weight on rather than the heavier stock weight. If your riding mainly on grippy terrain rocks etc I would nt stick a weight on at all due to the run on it causes, or if you still want to see if you can get a stock one cut down. Saying that though its all down to personel preference

I stuck my flywheel weight back on over the winter for the mud, helped alot especially with very slippy climbs where you have to nail it at the bottom and shut the throttle imediatley to prevent spinning on the climb. The run on of the motor takes you up the climb with the throttle shut far better than without the weight on. As soon as things dried up abit I took it off again as it is a real pain in the dry due to the run on, although Ralph has still got his on the Beta

Cheapest way is to get it rewound, not sure where you are but doubt its the UK re; the snowmobile? have a look through some of the posts on Beta or do a word search on here and you might find a company near you who can help.

Fair play Eddy and as you, I do the same, although I usually squander the months savings and come the swap I stick the whole lot on HP but do avoid any big costs by holding on to it too long

Protrax, Is the bike running? its unlikely you will ever see a big fat spark form the plug even on newer bikes so dont think its the plug/wiring just by the spark. If the bike isnt starting at all it could well be the stator or something else fueling etc etc. give some symptoms on here and somebody might be able to help, the stator can be rewound or at the worst relpaced (

Thanks for the comments guys pretty sure the Sherco wont feel to alien to anything else I have ridden in the past. Copemech i will definatley perservere using second a lot more but a lot of the sections we cut are pretty tight and the last time any of us hooked 2nd was 4 years ago on a particulary straight bit of moor crossing at the reeth so might take a while to get used to it. Both me and Dad have noticed over the past few months how the Sherco seems to find grip where other bikes seem to slip and the motors seem very smooth and clean and have a very fast pickup from nothing. Ralph you might be right about the male attention over the female? Ewers recons I will have a certain person on my doorstep most nights dressed in Blue " I cant beleive your getting a Sherco Boy!!!!" Me and Ralph have put 43's on the back, slows everything down nicely but 1st is still plenty for most stuff. 2nd is very usable on everything, 3rd is for biggish climbs and 4th can be pulled from no run up at all for long climbs. Both are 270's though not 250's but worth trying a few options whilst the bike is new.

Right then, bit of a blind plunge, picking up the Sherco next week and never actually riden one before, so what can I expect? power wise, handling,gearing etc etc. I ve been used to Rev 3's for a while now but more happy when I had Gassers as I felt happier how they rode and felt. I have heard the bars might feel abit low and the gears might take a bit of getting used too. Thanks for any comments good or bad Just

Its called personal choice Eddy, not everyone is as lucky as you to be able to get a new bike every year and a lot of people like how there bikes ride so keep them longer. I really like my Beta at the moment and it has crossed my mind this week whether to keep it a little longer as its running really well. Nothing wrong with giving your bike abit of makeover with new bits or individuality

I used to ride on the track with me tongue out, every time I crashed I nearly bit the bugger off, so now I ride Trials I make sure the thing stays firmly in me gob

Hmmmmmmm not heard of that before? would'nt it make the chain more dirty? I have been using WD40 for ages now, dust and dirt doesnt seem to cling to the chain as much and it washes off really easily, never noticed any abnormal chain stretching over chain lubes or grease. I do spray it everytime I go out on the bike though and if its a long day might do again after a few hours.
