Dabster, sounds like you have been trying to get one over the past weeks but with no luck? why the change from the Gasser?
  2. Big thanks to Dave today for bringing up his digger and dumper and creating some great new sections at the dishes probably moved 140 odd tonnes of rock into position and made a little surrender section and a mega multi step section to name a couple. Cant wait to have a go at it all later this week, almost like Yorkshire in Oxford now New sections?
  3. The Dellorto will make a mega difference in both smoothness, light feel in the throttle and no fuel p****** out the carb. It may take abit of setting up at first but well worth the effort. You will however loose some hair first few goes at trying to fit it to the airbox boot and the Beta fuel pipe will not fit easy to the carb. You will also see the metal throttle cable body is to high on the carb, Ralph has his like this but was thinking of getting it bent so the cable enters the tube at a better angle,no problem as it is but might be worth getting it lowered. I am pretty sure Ralph takes the mid box off and possibly the header to make the refitting much easier, sounds excessive but if it takes 2 hours by not taking the exhaust off you will soon wished you had. He may of found an easier way by now, sure he will post to let you know Good luck

Munch, hes using first most of the time, I think it may well be a tickover and riding technique problem now more then anything and we all call him Dad as a nick name, hes not me dad really. Hes going to have another go tomorrow and see how hard it is to stall with some changes, I have a feeling it is more to do with the type of sections me and him set out, up your own a*** type, back wheel hops to get round bends, flick turns, allowed to stop for minutes at a time? then we only ride non stop straight line trials up north in streams??????

Thanks for the replies and link, Dad is abit sore this morning but changing a few things on the bike today (Idle speed, restrictors, clutch master cyl and plates) See what happens tomorrow, project for next week is getting the 315 up and running again incase its no better

Brian, hes had the bike about 2 months from new, he had dropped the tickover alittle but turned it back up today. I have never seen him come off so much and so hard before, the stopping is so abrupt. I will have a look at the topic now thanks Andy
  7. GW, aint they just the B*****ks I was only saying to Dad today how the bike has so much grunt, grip and nearly impossible to stall at really low revs. Not sure why yours is dropping revs downhill? I,ve got the float extension bowl on mine, might be abit of fuel starvation whilst pointing downhill but only guessing

Been out with Dad all day today, hes almost going back to the 2 stroke lately due to stalling problems on the bike. Two big get offs for him today due to the bike stalling just at the point of getting back on the throttle. Not sure if this problem is something a 4 stroke will do or just perculiar to his bike or riding style. First off up onto a big slab slopping down hill, gets up on it, blips the throttle to go down just at the point of throwing the body forward and it stalls, chucks him straight over the bars and down the slab. Second, tight turn onto a slopping rock with a 2 foot gap to another, biggish drop to the right. He bridges the gap blips to go and it stalls just at the wrong moment, chucks him off the wrong side(right) cartwheels down the drop with bike chasing him and to cap it all bike smacks him on the side of the head for good measure. A 2 stroke stalling is a pain but it tends not to stop like you ve hit a brick wall, the Mont is, best way to describe what happens is if you have ever gone up a really steep climb with a 180 degree tight turn on the hill, you make the turn about halfway, revs drop and bike stalls, f**ks you off straightaway. Anyone got any suggestions? its getting near sale time at the moment just because of this problem nothing else. It is knocking his confidence on pivot type turns over stuff incase it stalls on him, he'll have some big old bruises and aches tomorrow morning
  9. Holy s**t thats 59 quid inc delivery here whats going on with the UK prices then? that would be at least $200 here
  10. Nice one Chriss, the old ones are the best, not heard that for years, made me chuckle
  11. If your riding mostly on idle jet for hours it will build up with carbon, sounds too rich as well possibly. Every half hour if your not reving much go up a hill a few times to clear the motor out on main jet or have a bit of a blast on the flat.
  12. Doogle, problem solved, I'll take your bike up in the van and bring it back if I can have unlimited use of the Motorhomes shower and shi***r over the three days mate
  13. Chriss could well be a convert, my mates got a caber rep much better bike than the standard sherco, rides really smooth and feels more like a gasser than anything else. Never breaks down and very easy to work on. May have to wait till the 08's come out but looking like a sherco in the autumn
  14. I'll go with what titanium has said, my next bike will either be a 4rt or Sherco, more likely to be the Sherco at the moment (Better built Gasser) the rev3 is starting to feel like a heavy weight compared to the others but still a very good well made bike though. Hopefully when beta bring out something completely different without a Mikuni I will buy one, but the Sherco and 4rt seem much better bikes these days.
  15. Ask Greeves is right, I do plug chops after 8-10 real big flat out climbs, kill the engine imediatley you hit the top of the hill and take the plug out. It wont work if you tickle back to the van to take it out. I did nt need to rejet mine after putting the Boyesens in at all, infact it sorted the plug fowling out on its own. Always worth checking the plug colour after a good days trial or practice to see how its been running that day. Plug should be light brown and pretty much dry, oily and black isnt the right colour at all. If the plug is white or pitted its too weak, richen the mix straightaway on main and pilot and try again. Chuck the 7Es in the nearest bin and get a BPR5ES as recommended by Lampkins for the UK, it will make a difference straightaway and the Champion plugs are ***** in Betas
  16. I have had so many rev 3's now i cant remember if the front feels heavier than other bikes that much. As Billy said I have dropped the forks through the yolks to lift the front which feels better but higher bars did not work that well. I have nt noticed tucking under on the bike at all. Maintenance wise keep a good eye on loose bolts as per most bikes, the rear disc bolts tend to come loose and rear bash plate bolts on mine. Keep the air filter clean as possible and get the extended float bowl extension, use 98 octane fuel with good premix oil and you should nt go too wrong. If the bike feels rich as most Betas do there are plenty of easy cures on here to get it running right. Lampkins recommend a BPR5ES plug not the standard 7 they come with new, it does make a difference straightaway Good Luck
  17. Thanks Andy I will have a look this evening
  18. Anyone know of a good easy to use and free video editing programme I can download Ive got quite abit of footage including stars like Wiggy,Jack Lee, and Ralph on tape and would like to edit it down abit etc so I can post it. Hope to take the camera out abit more this summer if I can work out how to make short films Thanks Just
  19. If you are really keen on the gassers try a Sherco, alot of people say the Sherco is a better built Gasser and more reliable. I have had Betas since 01 as the Gasser let me down 3 times in five weeks from new and I took it back to the dealer for a Rev3. They do fall apart and need a great deal of attention in the workshop but ride the best from the 4 or 5 I have had over the years. The Beta is pretty much bullet proof, a few problems if you get a poor one but can be sorted out reasonably easily from info on here. I have had mine nearly a year now and it gets ridden aprox 20 hours a week still looks good and nothing is falling off or worn out. Like most Trials bikes the bolts are ***** so i always replace most of them from new with good ones. The rev3 is very easy to work on and spares seem very good value if you bust loads, in my view the 270 is the best hill climber of all bikes and has loads of low down grunt if you play with gearing and set up. I had a go on a 4rt last week, first time and was well impressed, the suspension is incredible compared to other bikes I ve tried, Ralph and James said the same. I did think it would feel big and heavy but it does nt, probably down to how good the suspension is, it hops and flicks about just as well as the Beta and somehow feels as if its glued to the floor. I am going to have a go on it again in the streams in wales tomorrow and if it rides as well again I think it will be my next bike. The Monts build quality is second to none and they have been around long enough now any major problems would have showed up. I rode a 250 Scorpa early last year before I had a bike, I was surprised how easy it was to ride, never buy one but it was alot better than I thought it would be.
  20. Ian, have I missed a previous bit of banter between you and spud before? or is this the first time? Re trophies, i would rather see the kids get them, on the odd occasion I won one as a schoolboy it was great much rather get a new tyre at the end of the year now or see it spent by the club for paying for a new venue hire or observer benefits
  21. I know Chriss
  22. I tend to use both brakes on front wheel hops, not saying its the right way but I prefer it, bikes seems more balanced and stable doing it. Standing hard on the rear brake on back wheel hops as you land definately works, less chance of loosing your balance as it hits for some reason.
  23. I noticed that as well at the Bemrose, I was almost expecting a walking stick through the spokes as I approached but a quick thank you (for moving over) and hello did the trick
  24. Dont know what happened then Kinell? elecy went off whilst i was editing the spelling and it dissapeared, saved some of it but just rewrote abit. Thanks on the smoking info mate of a mate was on something new a while back? may have been the stuff you said, sent him mad nearly and wasnt allowed to drive either? but i will ask Incentive helps alot when giving up, last time it was being able to ride quicker on the track. Every time I feel i want a smoke i will get the bike out, even take it to work I think, should be on it 16 hours a day over the next few weeks Great info Billy, really interesting and this is the sort of info that hopefully spur me to kick the cigarettes once and for all and get fitter. As someone here said earlier you are giving free advice which does cost in normal life, thanks for that. I think most of us would like to be fitter and eat better, but its a minefield out there, eat this, dont eat this, quantities etc etc. I am lucky that I don
  25. Thanks for that Billy, I will try alot more water next trial before and during and lay off the RedBull and lucozade and think about the carbs food. Two handfulls of spinach? no wonder you wanted to get finished quick mate......... just out of curiosity? why half a carrott? was you full?
