It was called balancing the bike. One other reason they changed the rules. The top riders did this all day long, also they would hop backwards all the way to the start. They removed the backing up rule as it took too much time. The top guys would maintain balance all day long and the bikes were crap compared to now.

18 is on the side that makes it slip. So chances are the plates are worn. If you are lucky enough to have a dealer or friend that has a 1.3 plate, that would fix the slipping. The damaged friction plates will need to be eventually replaced. Lots of metal around the spring is normal. The starter gears all wear and break. The synthetic woes are a myth. Gassers which sit for long periods of time always had the friction material come apart.

Guess what. You go to your Honda dealer and they also order the part. And you get it next week. Rarely does main line dealers stock much anymore. Trials in the USA has always been a well hidden sport as there is no money in it. By the way Ryan is very good at taking care of his Sherco riders. You should attend one of his riding schools. He just happens to be a 6 time National Champ.
-
That I`ll agree with. But, no matter how tall you are moving up and forward is also moving the weight forward. Squat and down is how you find traction. And 6` is not tall. Dougie and others are a lot taller and I do not remember bar risers.(In fact any risers limit how far forward you can get.) Lucky for me I have Marfan Syndrom. (Ape Like arms) Now my little boy is 6`5 and growing. I`ll break his legs if he ever asks for risers.
I like the idea of more leverage, any amount of rise usually has a negative effect on leverage. Like we said everyone has an opinion. I cannot hop a bike with risers (some are way too tall) and my son can`t either.

That`s not surprising as RYP is Sherco USA.

The all day dab came to indoor rules first and then to the world rounds. It really was not intended as a fair rule. It was to keep the competition close. As in the other boys could not compete with number one. It was not intended to keep new riders from getting fives. But that is the problem it created.
Do I dare say that is how the new World Round rules came from too?

Pull the flywheel cover off. Give the flywheel a good tug. Is there any movement up and down.
-
35x47x10 very easy to find. Call Mike at the Tryals shop. Very friendly and knowledgeable. Been around forever like me.
-
That`s fine for someone to do. But just the opposite of what this thread is about. Up and forward would make his bike track less.

So you are now waiting for a new rebuilt bike. The Ossa is cool, But any new trials bike would work. I`d be spending my free time looking for a deal on a left over `14.
-
Since your new to trials. I would just change the fluid and go find some other trials riders. Trials bikes are set up soft. Otherwise you bounce off the obstacles and usually in the wrong direction.
-
Not bad. You have the Wes S/A arrestor and muffler. Move the shifter up about 2 0r three notches (About 2 inches) An Aprilia fender and mount might be the best for the front.
-
1 st thing to check would be the top hat under the clutch. It sits at the end of the shift shaft. You may get lucky adjusting the eccentric which is located at the same spot. Do a search for Jim Snells videos which he shows how to do it. Trials parts usa also has the videos somewhere in his site.

Bar risers are never needed, but each to there own choices. How many short people raise the pegs? Basic human anatomy. Arm span = Height.
-
First is very surprising. A bike jumping out of gear can be very unsettling. ( I rode Montesa`s that were scary) I would pull the clutch cover off and have a look. If you look at the manual 3.5.2 on gear changing. It is possible to break the piece on the center cases just above the shift mechanism. ( The piece where it has like three reinforced pieces coming to it) Also check the rollers on the end of the shift drum. Good Luck. He does not have the shifter mounted too low?

The Gasser has more room than most modern bikes. Risers are not the answer. Tall has nothing ever to do with it as your arm span is usually close to your height. Lately all new riders want risers. I have yet heard a short guy say he wants to raise the foot pegs! My son hops well. A few trials ago a group of Enduro riders bought a Beta to learn to ride with. First thing they did was put risers on the thing. My son tried to hop the bike, but the risers destroyed the feel of a normal riding position. What it did is take away the initial leverage point , making it something awkward to ride. Believe me Brian you just need time on the bike. You should try a vintage bike some time, if you get the chance.
My little boy at last weeks trial. By the way he`s 6`5 .

Thanks for sharing. Might save some one a lot of grief!

The only 2014 in our club just sits. The owner still prefers his well abused `05.
-
Looks just like a 350 I had. Wished I never sold it. Great bike.

For a complete waste of time read this http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/topic/53282-reliability/. For the best info on your bike look here http://www.trialspartsusa.com/. You will notice there is no parts book for a 2002 pro,use the 2003 for parts. That is how bad the 2002 was, most engine parts were upgraded. 2003 suspension was all the same.

This was probably the worst bike from gas gas. What you need to know is what the previous owner fixed.
Change the tranny fluid monthly and clean the air filter often.
synthetic oil at 70-80:1
You bend your legs to ride trials or by a Harley.
A heavier rear spring might be needed, the front fork springs can be adjusted with pvc spacers. The stock springs would sag after a year.
Welcome to trials, ride often is what you need. One of the best videos is By Ryan Young. Best book was by Bernie Shrieber on basics.
-
When the 1995 Fantic section came out, they had a crap thermostat. We always wired the fan on. Never saw one need to be replaced.
-
Last year I got to ride a `like` new 1985 TY350 for a day. Forgot how they were stock. The later rear shock was also a huge improvement.
-
I`m on the edge of my seat. I have seen a lot of mistakes from all the manufacturers, but this is interesting. Maybe just leave the fuel empty.
