  1. Yes, for whatever reason the blue oil worked well. You might just be lucky.
  2. You can gain a little with the front tube adjustment. But all this talk of longer and stiffer rear suspension seems to be brought on from the crazy vintage crowd. The RTL had real suspension and we were hopping about back then. You set the suspension to work together. Learn to hop or float to make it turn.
  3. Sounds to me like the rear tire is going into a skid or slide going downhill. Beware tightening the chain too tight as you can break parts. An O-ring can be a great investment, but totally wrong on a bike that is designed to go slow. It robs what little power the ty makes. Push it around your block once without the motor running!
  4. The shifter already bends easily. The biggest problem with the `02 was the shift drum was very weak. If this has not been replaced your son riding an Enduro will cure that problem. It will crack as it has very little metal in the original. All the upgrade parts will fix most problems. While running it is a fine bike. It is the most worked on motor (splitting the cases) than any modern motorcycle that I know of. The other issues are the clutch should have been updated and the same for the kick starter shaft. The shift shaft also has an updated part. The clutch cover should also be updated. http://www.trialspartsusa.com/racing-parts.html You really should find out from the previous owner if any of these were replaced.

    200 Vs 300

I think the crank weights are different, but the top end should work. Would be an interesting turn around of a bike. I`d considered it for my son years ago. 200 upgraded to a 250 later on.

That piston has had a rough life. That is not a one time occurance . That is another piece off aluminum on the piston. High revs could have nothing to do with it, but heat and a crappy mixture sure could. The bike has had some dirt through it!
  7. We had a few in the club back then. I`d say ride it as there is only a few survivors. http://www.retrotrials.com/1984-honda-rtl-250-report.html
  8. The pilot actually has two holes in the carb body that it blows through. Straight up to the slide and out in front of the slide. I`d bet the later was blocked. Good job!
  9. You have to clean the whole carb. Did you have the complete carb off. The slide could be sticking from old fuel.
  10. It also could be the throttle tube is cracked or full of dirt.
  11. Bad cable, dirty carb or bent needle.
  12. A few bikes have a cap that breathes. I would not worry unless it leaks all over.
  13. Is it a Mono or a twin shock. Sounds like the chain, chain tensioner or suspension. Did you adjust the chain after you got the bike?

    200 Vs 300

It does not have a smaller jug, just more usable power. Remember the Beta 200 started as a 250 and become a 200.
  15. Have you ever had a Fantic? Mine has a one finger, easier than my son`s pro gas gas. Just finished a 24 mile trial riding with only modern bikes. Besides being way hot, being air-cooled, it worked just fine. It was practice for our ITSA finale for the year. The old twin shocks are even better with a working clutch. Not using the clutch went away in the late seventy`s.
  16. 94 thru 97 will fit. I believe the sub frame changed in `98. If is only cracked or split in two, patch it up with zip ties.
  17. Sounds like you are going in the right direction. Must have been an early `04 to have that carb on it.
  18. The speed of a throttle tube has no correlation to a flywheel weight. I would try the two together! Not the first idea on this, but a fine looking product.
  19. Oh one minor gripe.. you can't seem to tell how much fuel is in the tank so no idea if you are about to run out or not. a sight window might have been a nice touch. Look at all the Gas Gas pro`s. You can`t see the level in most of them either. Just top the tank and go. No worries.
  20. Usually you leave the selector in neutral while assembling to make sure everything is free and clear. Good luck, I`m sure you will get it. Just don`t tear the center case gasket.
  21. When the pro first came out we left that bolt out for more flow. Plus we were always fixing the clutch, so it just made it easier.
  22. I believe Gas Gas goes by Iso 3780 standards and California goes by North America standards. Cali dmv is just not smart enough to recognize the Europe standard.
  23. So why do you not just rebuild it. The cases are bad?
