  1. I bought an 03 Racing, slow throttle, heavy flywheel off a bloke what just got a new 04 set up the same way. He says that the 04 idles better and has much faster pickup. I noticed that his sounds different. It has more of a pop. Sounds like the engine is higher proformance. I like the gray frame from the 03 better.
  2. I ran my bike down the road about a mile at 25 mph (~40.234 kph) and back to warm it up before changing the oil. By the time I got back the front brakes had heated up and nearly brought the bike to a stop. The brake lever would not compress and the disk had started to turn blue. These are one year old APJ's. I loosened the lever to make sure that the piston had full range. I changed the brake fluid after the brakes cooled and things went back to working. The shoes are not worn. This may have happened before as I smelled something getting hot after riding the trail to a new section. The bike sat long enough for the brakes to cool before riding the section. I didn't notice anything was wrong. Does anyone know what is happening and how to remedy it? Thanks
  3. There aren't, just that many curious people.
  4. Yeah really kool!!!!!!! By the way how much is the nose stud? Oh, did you mean the helmet? Ciao DFW :
  5. [vasaline is the best for puting on grips as it tightins up as soon as you put it on ] Vasoline? Are you sure you didn't mean poly-grip?
  6. Nice grips. Just be real careful when you install them. I used air pressure, albeit too much, and blew the one on the throttle side up like a balloon. It has not yet shrunk back into shape. There is a saggy spot not unlike an old ladies under chin waddle. I turned the grip so that part is mostly out of the way. The little insert works well as I have dropped the bike twice and the grip is still intact. Just be careful not to use too much pressure when installing thegrips. Ciao DFW
  7. Right you are Marky G. My brother who rides a 99 Bultaco(Sherco) has earned enough Tig welding Gas Gas' back together to buy a new Scorpa.
  8. Point taken, I should have said " and Montesa's near demise". By the way how do I get spare parts from the factory for my Cota 247? Ciao DFW
  9. It is either money or ego. If you are a large company you can do it for either. If you are a small company you have got to do it for money. Things like the general economy of the contry and world are factors as in the demise of Bultaco, Ossa, and Montesa in the late 70's and early 80's. I am sure that if Bill Gates were into Trials he could build a world class bike and afford not to make money. Most companies can't.

    This New Fantic?

Not much of a website but here it is. Fantic
  11. Did your new 04 come with the flat skid plate or did you have to shell out an extra $100? Where did you get the exhaust guard? Both are very nice by the way.
  12. Of course not you might be embarrased to say how much pressure it takes to keep a Montesa afloat.
  13. Thanks all, for the info. I have been running 7psi front and 6psi back. I will be brave and lower the pressure.
  14. I was going to ask for a picture of the home made work stand, but now I am sorry I even thought about it.
  15. What tire pressure, front and rear, should I run for different conditions. I weigh 13.5 Stone (230 lbs). I don't want to have a pinch flat but I want as much traction as possible. The conditions I ride range from my concrete patio, in which I place cement blocks, wooden crates, and, what ever else I can find to practice on, to ravines with grass, sand, and, roots. Thanks for any suggestions. Amateur Section Crash Test Dummy
  16. Well now that you mention it, looks like the publicist should have caught the hammer and sickle in the background. Of course it could mean that Montesa is receiving eastern block backing?
  17. Might be good to have a Nappy automatically pop up after unusually tough sections.
