Great advice from Telecat.
One last item.
Get a real pair of trials boots!!!
Garne, Hebo, Novo-Gar, Sidi, and Alpenstar all make good trials boots.
Avoid ATV and MX boots.

I run 600 ml of Mobil 1 synthetic transmission oil in the tranny and the clutch works great.

tim scorpa 03,
From the factory the bike comes with a 10/38. You might go back to that gearing and see how you like it. I have an 03 and I think the gearing is great. I don't think taller gearing would be good...

I like the large concrete skid plate. Looks like it could and maybe has taken a lot of abuse. It certainly assures a low center of gravity.

If you use compressed air make sure to turn down the pressure regulator to about 15-20 psig. If you leave it between 90-120 the grip may blow up like a balloon and be ruined.

Looks like a stream of smoke eminating from the rear brake. ?????

Charlie,
Valve grinders must be just like ties, if you keep them long enough they will come back in style. You may want to figure how to how to hook a computer to your valve lathe.

The bike looks great.
I am disappointed it has a carburetor instead of fuel injection.

If it backfires too many times here is what happens.

Get a SY-250 Racing model and put a Long Ride seat on it. That way you get the best of both.

600 ml of synthetic transmission oil is good. I use Mobil 1. If your bike does not have it, buy a flat skid plate. If you ride in a rocky area you might want to get a water pump cover. It

bronson,
I went trail riding on my 03 Scorpa SY-250 last summer with a group of friends near Grand Lake in Colorado. They ride enduro and dual sport bikes. We rode single tracks mostly. On the single tracks I was able to keep up with them very well. I rode a few jeep trails that the others with big bikes didn't even try and I had a great time. It was fun to hop over logs and then turn around and watch the others struggle over them. I wasn't able to keep up with them on the fire roads between single tracks but there was a fair amount of traffic that consisted of cars, trucks, mountain bikes, and 4 wheelers and it wasn't really save to speed. It would have been nice to have the long ride seat with the larger fuel tank but I did just fine strapping on a couple of Nalgene fuel bottles. All in all I had a lot more fun on the trials bike than I would have had on my XR400R. Having had both kind of bikes I prefer a trials bike.

Looks like the chain is well lubricated with an Iron Oxide compound.

boofont,
Are sure that it is not aluminum that you are seeing? My 03 SY-250 came with a slow aluminum tube. When I took it apart to clean it I thought the same thing.

City Trials,
Blame the Texas Legislature for the cow crap. You can't afford to own land in Texas unless you can get an agriculture exemption, which means either cow crap or trees. Other than that I hope you enjoyed the event. Where you able to participate in a cow chip throwing contest? Wi-Fi hah it's a wonder your cell phone worked.
