  1. 4 or 5 turns i think, not 100% right now. Yes it knocks when i chop the throttle, even if i give it a blip whilst stationary. But also knocks when on the road / moorland runs. Also run 97ron + and 85ml oil to 5l if it helps... I think ill ring GGUK and see what they say.. Thanks again guys
  2. Ah i see what you mean sir, would a bigger pilot jet in conjunction with the 300 valve be advantageous?
  3. Replies all sound good but im not too clued up on carbs, F/I & management i get fine so.. 300 fuel valve - what is this bit? Fuel needle valve - assume thats the bit the needle in the slider goes into.? If i can find out what i need i shall get it all ordered so i can fit the bits and get on the bike again Cheers
  4. Cheers man. Looks like i have a few evenings work to do Simple 2t engines, hmmmmm.... If the car pinks its a million times easier, if it doesnt melt a piston....
  5. Hi guys, firstly bear with me, couldnt find anything searching... Been a while, mainly messing with stupid cars (specifically crappy nissans) but its getting close to the manx so the old girl is coming out again for a bit of practice etc beforehand. So my problems, from last year are: Pinking on road / moorland runs, even with choke on, it also starts to slutter / cut out which suggests to me the float bowl is emptying., GGuk didnt have any #38 pilot jets for last years event so i left it alone. I suspect the waterpump is duff, though it never boiled over (i think) is it an easy enough job to change it for peace of mind ? Other than that she seems ok, would like cheap fixes as the nissan is wanting a turbo amongst other things... Bike is a 2008 GG 300 pro, bog standard bar flywheel weight... Many thanks
  6. My new 08 300 is knocking on let off also, is it worth taking the head off and cleaning her up a bit?
  7. Ive just dragged my old 05 rev3 round the manx 2 day for the 3rd year running, not bad going for a modern bike, but after this years expenses of stator, again, hours spent fettling the rear brake and copious other little niggles including rear shocker, this is no 2 since ownership, i have still had to suffer a whole day of riding with the rear shock like a pogostick as the threads in the top cap had stripped, and half a day with no rear brake, that is with new pads being fitted causing lateness the rear brake bled up, i freed the pistons up, but spent most of the 1st and second day riding a few miles then stopping to splash water to cool it down, then it died on day two. Any suggestions on the brake issues or time to get rid??? She still runs like a dream though
  8. thats the pretty bits sorted. another question is there any performance mods available as i am quite a hefty chap? * quite = very

    Trick Bits

Apologies if this has been done but im new to scorpa's after many issues with betas and my local beta dealer. What is available in the department of fancy bits for the SY. Carbon fibre and pretty anodized bits. Ta. Warby
  10. When the gentleman that invented cats eyes came across the idea he saw a cat in the road at night, in his headlights, but what would he have invented had the cat been turned in the opposite direction.? The pencil sharpener. (Said by Les Dawson in the papers this weekend)
  11. The water in the water machines at our college was tested and was found to be unfit for human consumption and then we found out the pond water is actually safer than the bottled water in these machines so drink beer boys and girls

    Shock-horror

I need to know if there are heavier shocks or springs available for the larger gentleman. Any help would be much appreciated. My large frame doesnt suit my standard shock and i have wound it up as much as i can.
  13. Over on the rock here (isle of man) the cheapest unleaded (total) is 106.9 up to 111.9 for total diesel. shell is on average 1p dearer but we can pay up to 113.9 (diesel) in places. any body want to swap?? and Vpower/ excellium only the tax dodgers can afford that ,Beckham etc. And the news papers ahve stated that Gordon Blair and friends will have 45 million pound ish left over with no home in the budget, why not cut the fuel duty for a while?
  14. I have had my 05 250 nearly from new and never ever played with carb settings, i have fallen off more times than the proverbial s***ty stick can be poked at and it always starts, downhill, uphill. It has done many run around trials and the manx 2 day without missing a beat. Granted it has had a stator but that was a problem with them. Hey maybe im lucky but am looking forward to my new 08 270. :D
  15. All I do is hot pressure wash it and leave it in a drum of diesel (cleans and sort of lubes) blow off with air line and put plenty of Wurth dry chain lube on it an allow to dry. Ive had an IRIS (hmmm) for nearly 12 months now and it hasnt had a link removed yet. That said itll break now next ride. If you knowingly get oil on the brake then Cellulose Thinners around the disc works well as for pads heat along with water and some TFR (traffic fim remover) will be sufficient.
  16. I dont know if st johns fc will be open then, should be. its about 5/6 miles past glen lough with a pub under 5 mins walk/stagger/crawl away (were 2 but the farmers shut) my front garden may be available for a large fee. 10'x10' if that:D Also no rider list yet any 1 in uk got around no 18 on solos just to see who i can get lost i mean help out with the manx roads Glen wyllin is a possibility there is also i think 1 in ramsey somewhere but the distance from douglas would require an early morning. early morning + beer all night = hmmm hope i was more help than hinderance....
  17. You'll never go wrong with the baby 4popper my sister has one and i ride it alot being a large bloke used to a 250 rev 3 it aint all that under powered. Maintenance wise clean air filter check and change engine oil reasonably regular. Ace wee bike when i did B class they moved to 125's but i went to A but nearly bought one. Would reccomend to anyone Good luck and enjoy
  18. Before te recent death of the stator my 05 250 indeed leaked but always started anywhere even mid waterfall in the nastiest of manx weather (summers day) and i have never modded carb/messed with jets. tangs or owt. But maybe im lucky Just imprint on your mind one thing Turn the (beeping) Fuel off and ye'll ne'er go wrong. Unless you bought a bad one like my 05 gasser with which it is easier to state what didnt break than what did (got shut after 3 months) probably a friday afternoon job Another thing you may know about betas, crap electrics WD40 on flywheel and in its casing every ride (as i wish i had). Good choice and have fun with it
  19. I shall remove flyingwheel an have a gander, bloomin eck this is gonna cost.

    250 Or 270?

I agree the 250 is sufficient for any thing other than big steps it grips like chuff My trouble is that i know only 1 rev 3 270 on the island, though i did trial me old fellas old techno 270 when me gasser broke (typical) Think a 250 with VHST carb should be good then.
  21. I got the nut off and stalled, like the bike. How doeth one go about getting said flyingwheel off ??

    Rev3 05 Died

At a trial today i wer sat in a queue and me beta stopped, no pop, nipping etc fuel present no spark. Is it likely to be the ignition box or the dreaded stator? Please help got a runaround on sunday and may need to send away to JLI for bits and we have no next day parcels or post. Many thanks. Warby...

    250 Or 270?

Being a portly chap and a reasonable clubman and looking for a new trials motorcycle, i have a 250 05 but wonder whether an upgrade to a 270 would help me on my way. I rode a 280 GG an it pulled me arms out. Does any one out there with a 270 have any advice on the power and rideability etc... Many thankenyou's
  24. Surely the nice folks at montesa know how to measure the oil (in manual) , though you are a special chap paul...... or get a beta and you get a sight glass in the gearbox.
