Your right, I won't think he is quite as funny when he comes over here and beats the crap out of me. But since I practicaly list my address it won't be too hard to find me.
-
Mr. Belair, your a funny man.

What if they decide you need a showroom with location limits, and you need to stock 10 bikes, then charge you a franchise fee on gross sales? My point being, that you are wanting to taylor fit the rules to yourself to cut out competition for yourself. If they were to propose limits beyond your means you would be crying foul. I'm not knocking you for being human, but you need to see your argument for what it is.

While large multi-brand motorcycle shops have their short comings, at least they have a large quantity of bikes on the show room floor. I think it would be good for trials if somehow these large dealers were enticed into carrying a trials brand or two. At least they would get some exposure to the public. Hell, I'll go as far as say that Honda should make the large dealers put a Montesa on the floor. Maybe they could sell a few. I'm not against "mom and pops" but they don't have any marketing power. It's hard to increase your market base when hardly anybody knows what your talking about, the masses here in the states have never heard of Trials! Put a trials bike in the Harley Boutique, at least someone will see it and wonder"What the hell is that!". That is what trials needs here in the US, EXPOSURE.
-
Me thinks you might want to get that list of dealers from usmontesa.com and confirm that no leftovers are available. I don't know if Tom still has the one Cope mentions or not because I'm not looking for one, but it's worth making the call. If you really want one it's not going to take you long to find one. Once you get so far out of your home area shipping isn't going to be much more all the way from the west coast. Some say that they ship anywhere in the states for $200. As a side note, the soft market for Montesa started before the real decline of the dollar.
-
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention the 3 hours I spent working on clutch plates before I did anything else.
-
Bob, do you have to have a new one? I'm sure you could get you a list of all the Montesa dealers and you could find I one that hasn't been used much.

Firstgear, I ran min with 2 springs removed, not to decrease lever pull but to increase friction length. I found that it was too wide and I couldn't snap the front tire up sometimes when I needed to. I'm sure you dad will know the things I'm about to tell you. When you decrease spring pressure you increase the possibility of slippage it doesn't matter if you do it by decreasing the number of springs or by shimming the springs. Shimming is the better of the two as this distributes the load evenly and keeps the clutch in balance. I tried running with 1 spring removed but the uneven load made it difficult to disengage the clutch fully but the friction area seemed about perfect. Another way to decrease lever pull and increase friction length is to change the possition where the pressure is applied on the lever. At the ball end where ya'll have been measuring the pressure applied to the lever is the location where the least amount of pressure is needed to be applied and has the longest arc from stop to stop. As you move closer to the fulcrum the more pressure is needed and the shorter the arc or friction length will be. Sectionone gave you the short version. I moved my master cylinder as far to the middle as I could, it doesn't put my finger at the ball but it was enough to solve my problem. Maybe a combination of the thin shims and moving the lever will do the trick?

My kill switch is always screwing up. When mine doesn't want to start I unplug the kill switch.
-
Yeah, well I bet it was cheep domestic beer.

Clark, where were you this past weekend. You missed a fun time. Sat. was a mess but we didn't get any hail just rain. I broke my clutch hose on the first loop at the end of section 6. I tried to ride #7 without a clutch but the turns were just too tight. I though I was out for the count but Don Hubbard came to the rescue with a hose for an '06 Beta. It was a close enough match to work. With his help I was able to get it up and running in time to finnish the round. Joe Miller had just picked up his new 270 and was riding it for the first time that afternoon, broke his clutch hose before he finnished his first loop. No hose for him, I got the last one. He rode my old 315R on sun and did very well on it, there must not have been any loose steep down hills. See you next month.

Mr. Belair,
Are you talking about consumer level or dealer level. I haven't kept up since I bought a new bike in Dec. When I was shopping there were still some '05s and was told by a dealer that '06s and '07s were available. I'm sorry if my information is outdated and incorrect. A soft market sure appeares the likely cause for a lack of new imports. I talked to a dealer last month that had 6 used ones for sale. So, are they going to send some over or is it a big secret as to why they are not?
-
Are you sure it's not LISTING. Cope you forgot, more oil on one side makes it lean the other way just opposite of what you might think! More oil makes it lighter on that side because oil is lighter than water and wants to float on top of the water molecules in the air giving it a buoyant affect.
More oil = lighter, less oil = heavier. Rule of thumb, less is more and more is less and less, and less, and less.....
-
I'm not upset. And not attacking you I just find your statements completely ludicrous. Look at the ratios and what they represent: 20:1 states that there is 20 times the amount of fuel to the amount of oil, 100:1 states that there is 100 times the amount of fuel to the amount of oil. It's obvious that 100 times is a richer fuel mixture that 20 times. I think what may be confusing you is the way a plug looks kind of like it's running rich because it doesn't clean itself as well with a low fuel ratio.? And yes the rest of your post is self explanitory.

-
You may just need a new radiator cap.
-
Make sure your fan is running above idle. When I had an overheat problem the fan ran fine at idle but givi it some gas and the fan would quit. The was a wire broken on a capacitor that is attached to the voltage regulator. I resoldered the wire and that fixed it.
-
Buy ya a new bike to go with it, then the ratio will be better.
-
The reason there are no '08s imported is because there are too many earlier models not spoken for. If they send over some '08's the earlier years will have to be discounted more. Then, when there are big discounts on the earlier models there is no demand for the '08s. Best not to send any over. We do have an importer and parts distributor, but I've never heard of Trialsage.
-
He is going to need time to adjust. I tried riding a 4RT last sunday and found it impossible to ride. Now I'm no Doug Lamkin, but I can ride a little. The point is that the 4RT and the Rev3 take completely different riding styles.
-
I didn't feel like removing the shock to get the mid box out and was able to remove and reinstall the reed block with the mid box there.
-
I forgot to mention that the carb change was in '01 also. I had to work on my '00 carb some to get it right. I have no experience with the newer carb, but have heard that its fine.
Edit:
I just found that the frame was changed in '01 according to apexmotorsports.
-
As I recall the one bollt was a little hard to get to but not impossible.
-
I was told by Adrian Lewis of lewisport that there were no such change in porting or piston. The only real changes that I know of are changes in the brakes. The frames are identical from '98 exept for a little extra weld close to the head stock. The shock linkage is still the same even on the 4rt. If the '01 is in good shape and cheap buy it. The '01 has a 4 piston caliper on the front where th '00 has a 2. If I was going to buy another 315R I would go for an '04 because it's newer than the rest.

There is a condition similar to carpal tunnel except the nerve is constricted in the elbow. This causes the little finger pain. I can't remember what it is called.
