It goes back some years, but I still wonder how Marky got the scaley lacy finish on his(i think) original SY frame?
Of course he never has to toutch the things up!
-
That is interesting! Quite a bit heavier though! About 1lb or near 1/2 kilo, Good call JM!
Maybe it is time for me to market my new anti-squeal kit, comes with 6oz can of WD-40 to shut up the brakes, and a small roll ov Gorilla tape to shut up the rider, as he tries to scream his way down the hill! Only a tenner!
-
Is Caby running a 44T rear from Vince to slow the thing down a tad? Chris?
Borus' bike looks good, did the "o7 come with the black yokes and new sidestand?
-
Have you run accross those LeRiche boys down there? They can give you a few pointers!
-
Seems it may be a hydro drive to the counter gear, And the arm bones may work as a springer type setup, unique! Hate the motor!
-
You see! Saves money on grips, Zipper probably has his from when he bought the bike!
-
All I can tell you is that the non wave rotors do it too, the noise is just my "audible" guage to insure things are working!
-
Neils,
All I can say is that Pat seems, to me, to be a fairly balanced rider in his style. I believe he has a lot of pushbike experience as well, and can pretty much use whatever he wants. But I also think that there is some limits on the 125's because a lot of rear wheel work requires a lot of the bike, as well as rider, so body over the front becomes more important than on a big bike that can power over things.
That brings me to another topic reguarding the riders of all classes really. One of the things that many people miss are the practice days, as they just get to maybe watch a few sections on event day. This applies to club trials also, but on a higher level even more.
It is SOO COOL to se these kids get together and practice! They will find things to try, follow the leader, attempt things they may not normally attempt, and have great fun wearing each other out! Showing off! Crashing! Whatever! And I still believe that in many cases, that is the best experience for them all, and unfortunately, that time is soo little and soo precious because it is soo hard to come by. At that time, language is not an issue as they just get to ride, which is what it is all about.
Seems to me this extends throughout the juniors as well, quite a show, at least based upon my limited experience.
Which brings me full circle to the fact(or what seems) that over here, even at the nationals, Pat has few times when they can get together just to ride with each other, and few can push Pat on his abilities. So it seems young Patrick is pretty much self motivated and always looking to ride, as he picks up things to work on, on his own.
The two SR(multi champ) riders here in the US are Ryan and Geoff! I just wish the kid had more quality time to spend with them, as their experience is vast! The only person over here that I have seen that could out do either in ths mud and slippery stuff was Avalah when he was here full time. It may be "old style" but I think they all have some tekniques that Pat could learn from, specially with the floaters and pivot turns. Any of these "old farts" can still kick butt on just about 99% of anyone here!
Oh well, I will shut up now!
-
I seem to recall that is about the timewhen the "racing" came with the lighter flywheel, and other changes, at least over here!
I think the timing was advanced and possibly a bit higher compression head, billett clamps and such, good runner! But not a gasser or Sherco, still very smooth and powerful for a 250. Should work well!
-
Nae, just be sure that the length will cover beer gut and plumbers crack!
Actually, the vendor had some very nice shirts the last WR here, not sure who they were, had a very big trailer set up. You should hit up the Andy to get you one of them, too! I have no idea what they normally offer in other places, cannot seem to get a TC shirt, in BLUE!
-
Aye, I can still get into a standard L, but if they are all cotton and shrink a bit I'm better off with the XL !!
Clive, see if kip has the XXL, please!
-
You here that Clive, be sure Kip brings one XL with man tits to TN!
Do they have t-shirts at the scottish?
-
Not sure how much difference there is in the cabby head? Fill us in! I suspect it may even have just a bit lower compression with a slightly increased squish area.
The keihin will be more powerful accross the range and the standard dellorto could be installed. If you are riding big grippy rocks and such, the keihin has a power advantage, on anything less, the dellorto works just fine and on the other end of the spectrum may indeed be preferable in the loose stuff and mud.
-
Reguardless of this years competition, I do have my own opinions about Pat and his off season training. Iy would help to get him out of the barn, send him down, as we can put him up in Tish! If TTC is not an option!
-
Sorry, but what happens at the trials must stay at the trials! Umbrella girls included!
Maybe I can arrange to have Andy bring you a shirt, If you will keep quiet?
-
Well, in lew of responding to your other post?
I think at the very least you will need two new main bearings, main seals and a center case gasket, possibly a clutch side gasket depending upon how well these come apart.
You need a flywheel puller, some air power and a good 3/8 drive air pistol impact. And I think it is a 24mm socket for the three large nuts, could be wrong, maybe 22mm.
Seems MRS Rathmell Sports is the main sourse in the UK for stuff, don't know how to reach them, but forget about the internet as I never got them when I tried.
If you have done motors before, follow Waynes instructions, but as a shortcut, mark with a chisl or scribe with a dremel disk, the three major nuts and shafts for proper reassembly and store them accordingly. Meaning the flywheel nut, the primary gear nut(other end) and the clutch hub nut, so you may reassemble to factory torque or ever so slightly beyond.
There are other things that should be inspected upon disassembly, but primarily the connecting rod lower end bearing, there should be no verticle movement, and if it is loose it should go. Anything else such as waterpump shaft and seals, clutch basket, or even piston and rings can actually be done as an afterthought once the bottom end is stable. Although you would be well advised to inspect these and address things as applicable to your findings.
Hope that helps!

They get more comfortable after you wash them too. I wore mine for two weeks before the perfume of the hooters girls wore off!
-
Uh!!!!
First I would ask if you have any recourse through the seller? Probably not, but worth asking.
Otherwise, time to break out the tools! Or find a local who can, where are you located?
-
Pat is still 17, and just because his blog is open and honest, I would not knock the kid, lets face facts here! And not take things out of context. You will probably never see anything that honest out of some of the top bull****ters! They are either full of it, or say little.
Pat just want's to ride! He is the Real Deal!
FACTS:
Travel sucks!
Spending enormous time in a country that you do not speak the language pretty much sucks!
Sitting around hotel rooms, sucks, when you cannot ride!!
Wretched weather and conditions also sucks! And when you are not feeling well, sucks worse!
Just missing a win by a point or a time penalty, well, all I can say is that just pretty much sucks!
Seems his blog is pretty accurate to me, it is a tough game, but the kid is on track and does not know anything less than to give it his best!
And that is pretty simple for me to figure out, and without trying to read anything stupid into it all! The rest can go p*** off!
Keep up the good work, Pat!
And keep it real!
-
You really just need to compare it to others to see just where it rates. Surely it has some normal wear, but that does not mean it will explode. Compare compression as well by pushing through the kickstart by hand.
As a quick chech though, you could remove the plactic flywheel cover and try to move the flywheel vertically. There should be virtually no slop, a few thousandths at most. If it goes ka-chunk, ka-chunk, the bearings are shot.
Hope that helps.
-
Pity you could not get your ass that high!
-
"You don't need an $8k bike with an intimidatingly powerful motor or to be dressed like a space cockroach."
Came across this today while reading a somewhat local blog by one of our friends. Actually it was in reference to flogging his 25 year old enduro style bike, and kicking a few butts, but it struck me just how applicable it really is to trials.
Cannot recall just how many times I have seen one of the old farts smoke the young'uns while wearing their jeans and t-shirt.
And and then there was David, who killed the experts at Octobertest a while back, on his pinky!
And really, I think just about anyone on anything built in this decade could be very competitive at even the highest club level and beyond.
Just thoughts,
-
Looks like another Beta to me!
-
Yes, but you are likely to have to spend an hour or two digging the old one out with dental picks where it ti potted in!
Extreme care must be taken not to ruin the center spike coming out that contacts the actual wire conductor. it is recessed in the hole!
-
Seems Chris posted his at the same time as me, looks really good!
I am pretty sure the new 3.2 has a totally unique sticker, not just the add on.
I really just need a few more crashes before I can justify installing a new rear fender(and graphics), but as alwayyyyyyyyyys, I never look foreward to the time!
You seen the posts about people bitching about broken mudguards? Well, I'll tell you this much, this one made it through last years TDN with Cody on it, then I rode it all of '07, won my class in the Central Regionals, even through Ryan's school here with him yelling at me" C'mon,I need to sell a fender!" while doing splatters! Well, it is still here, and works, go figure! Yes I have a spare in silver, not going WHITE! Not on this one, do not want or like the change that much!
Oh well!
