  1. r2w - You really are a naughty lad trying to stir things up While I quite like Shirty's candid comments, I think he is dead wrong on this one - Mind you if I had a about $500.000.00 in inventary I might resort to lashing out at somebody.
  2. Welcome to the TC World Steve - You will find you spend more time on it as you learn to negotiate the various forums. - I think we should let the troops know that you are also a proud Sherco owner eh?
  3. Ishy I have to ask why you fitted the Mont wheel - is it because you like the "T" rim - or just saving the original for when you sell it?
  4. Hey BS - That is good news on the Sherco - As a dealer I sure as hell don't get rich on Sherco parts sales - but then again when I go riding I don't need to fix the bikes either. - remember the 99 you saw at the Outlaw? - still going strong after being totally abused by the previous owner plus being ridden in a cross country race by owner #2 when the clutch was slipped big time to keep 4th gear ( I know because he told me) I think Sherco have a very dedicated and enthusiastic staff similar to the Bultaco days of old, they try very hard to get things right. This year I rode the 4T until I got the starting sorted then had a 2T for a while - both bikes brilliant and I support Sherco 100%
  5. I think you should give the factory some credit - they are experienced ex World Round riders - they still ride the Scottish and they certainly would n't put vents in the rear mudguard if it was going to cause big problems - just like on the Gas Gas the problem comes from the rider when he or she washes the bike without first covering the vents and plugging the muffler.
  6. Hey Joe - What do ya mean mud - it's always white in your neck of the woods time to put the studs in lad
  7. Yes - Mick in fact won the Scottish on this bike in 1974 - the carb was developed using snowmobile technology. He told me it was really neat because it would still run even if it was upsidedown - not that Mick was ever in this position of course.
  8. Betarick - You are in Yorkshire - John Lampkin is in Yorkshire Johnboy knows everything about Beta because he is the UK Importer - suggest you give him a call rather than root through stuff on the net.
  9. Maybe you should tell us where you are located? I assume by your av that you are in Canada someplace.
  10. Try using 5w30 oil - thats how we solved the problem with all the bikes -(Canada) - (change it often & switch to 10w40 for the summer - make sure you use motorcycle oil as many automotive oils can cause clutch slip
  11. I always put a bar of soap in my helmet after I've been riding - have also used a strip of " Downy" fabric softener - either will keep your lid smell free.
  12. Gaz - didn't find the mud a problem with the 4T rear fender -I didn't ride the bike in any deep water but it is basically the same idea as the Gasser - I have found that most riders tend to get more water in the airbox when they wash the bike. - I always duct-tape the vents & plug the exhaust before I turn the hose-pipe on. Hope you can get the Immigration thing sorted - I'm running out of drinking buddies ( just kidding)
  13. Gaz - Just get the 2T stickers for it - It is the 4T fender but it will fit both and the air ducts are a plus - the 06 bikes will all be like this only better. PS Vernon was just voted one of the best Six places to live in North America - Great ride again today on the 05 Sherco 290. (Sold the 4T)
  14. Just finished reading - I thought it was well put together and I enjoyed the minder's stories
  15. Test it with a new batch of mixed gas Optimax in the UK do a plug check - only change one thing at a time. The fuel screw should only be adjusted a quarter turn at a time - makes a big difference. The guy from the States must be living in a really humid area Dabster. - No need to change much in your neck of the woods as it rains all the b***dy time !! Sorry you have to change your clothes !
  16. The 36 pilot will be OK - we find a 35 is better for the 03. I don't aggree with the 118 - unless you are at about 3,000ft above sea level - a 120 would be the leanest I would go & DO A PLUG CHECK. - Please refer to my earlier post.
  17. Dabster's right Don't mess with the ignition and be careful leaning out the main - I usually rebuild engines for guys that don't listen.
  18. Hey Steve - Good video - bikes a bit "Dated" but the style looks pretty good.
  19. Where are you located? - With a name like BCBETA I'm guessing that you are in BC Canada - If you are you can email me direct at - daverhodes@shaw.ca. & I will try to help.
  20. I tend to aggree with Ishy - the sport used one scoring system for about forty years, before they added a "2" for two dabs. The FIM have changed the rules for World Trials so many times in the last few years I've lost count. If this is better for the the elete "Circus" so be it, but ordinary clubs should be left to run whatever rules work for them. The young riders all want to leap high in the air and do exciting and usually quite dangerous antics - that is why the sport of MX and MX Freestyle have such huge entries - However I also talk to a lot of parents at Motorcycle shows who want their kids to take up Trials because it's safer. Lets not forget it is the parents who are buying these bikes. - Most club events these days consist of 3-4 laps around a field - a far cry from the old days where 100 miles in one day was the norm. - the exception of course is the Scottish - which as one member correctly posted nearly went into early retirement because of the new rules - only when they reverted back to "No Stop' did the entry list get over-subscribed. The point is that if a huge event like the Scottish has to run different rules to stay alive, then why can't the local clubs be left to do the same? - young riders will adapt to whatever rules prevail, and if this means they have to practice different techniques to compete at Championship levels - then that is what they will do - the ACU Youth Training - and the Spanish System of developing the young guns seem to be working very well - this is now also being copied in the States. - I just hope the FIM continue to look after the World scene and leave the rest of us to carry on with what works for us.
  21. Interesting comments ! - I guess we will all know in a couple of weeks, but while we are talking about the Greatest etc - Lets not forget Sammy Miller - ( I realise many on this forum might not be old enough to remember Sammy) He not only revolutionized the sport back in 1965 when he went from 4 Stroke Ariel to 2 Stroke Bultaco - he also worked for the mighty Honda Company as a developement engineer, rider and team manager - but they did not renew his contract and basically gave him the "Heave Ho" - Sammy explains a lot about what it is like to be employed by the Japanese in his book - The Sammy Miller Story - It makes for good reading, and is an incite into the life of the first really Profesional Trials rider. - The salary he got paid was no doubt a mere pittance compared to the mega bucks offered today. At this level, the sport is all about business especially with the Japanee, - If they decide that Dougie still has value, they will offer him another contract, if not he will be gone. - As someone once said " It's funny how things change but still stay the same"
  22. Howard - Interesting point about the valve clearance - my bike now has approx 27 hours on it - Checked the valves and the inlet are at 0.13 and the exhaust 0.15 ! - Starts good hot or cold. They have not required any shims from new. I guess it's good for the next 100 hours.
  23. Hey Lads - The old Outlaw has been doing this mod for his customers for quite a few years now FREE !! I got all the info from John Lampkin so maybe check with him - the later model bikes come with the new spot to drill already casted but not drilled -(Strange) However this does make it a bit easier to drill in the correct place
