  1. You saw some of the section cards from our last event then many a true word said in jest.
  2. Your comment about modified road bikes (big tanks, big hubs, real seats on real rear loops and not really too handy looking) would also apply to most British trials bikes GOV132 excepted that were riding around Pre65. The Montesa i saw competing looked incredably similar to an early 247 Cota as quite a few commented. Sounded very sorted too. Thing was, i've no idea either, who actually knows exactly what a pre65 Montesa should look like. At least we have photographic evidence of the Bultacos that were competing in the UK Pre65. Then again how many Arials competing today look how they did in 1964 ?? Not many. Sorry about my earlier comment about the word British being included in the regs i was obviously mistaken.
  3. Never ridden around with him but did end up at one point riding a few sections a bike or two apart and that Norton does look hard work. Sooner him than me. Bit like when Mick rode the Douglas. How he got that round i will never know. Talking to him he's not sure either LOL.
  4. Be interesting to see what it makes? Is the silly season for prices for Majestys ended? Doubt it somehow.
  5. Agreed it was ginormous. Remember the write ups at the time slating it as being totally useless. Remember seeing a couple at trials but never seen one since. I always liked the Sachs engined Sprites especially the big fin engine ones. Back to the theme of this thread. No offence meant Monty but as Charlie said it's so hard to prove when the frame kits were actually for sale to the general public. Remember the Sprite at that time was a kit not a complete bike. Let me just give you an example. My James was constructed in 2009 from new parts and parts from a James donor bike that was registered in 1959. The bike carries that bikes registration and is entered as a 1959 James as per the registration document, that is the norm by the way in Pre65 trials, however is it a 1959 James or a 2009 James ? Remember it was effectively constructed using a frame kit as were the Sprites.
  6. Hope you have a good turn out i like riding at Barrys. As a matter of interest, us being neighbours like, how much do you reward observers? Interested because we always struggle to get all sections manned and i am always interested in ways to rectify that. I have always been an advocate of rewards but our bottle of wine just doesnt seem to be working.
  7. You could try a local engineers stores or Trialsbits who used to sell it. Then again theres always good old flea bay.
  8. Ahhhh and we ALL know they were a cover up. Only joking Highland Lassie
  9. A DT engined TY just sold on flea bay. Wonder if the buyer knew what they were buying???
  10. Nicely put. Condolances. Had a tear in my eye reading that.
  11. I know Andy wanted this post kept just to the SSDT but i just wanted to thank Highland Lassie for posting that response from T&MX. I never saw it as i never bother wasting my hard earned on it. I already have plenty of free papers for the cats litter tray. The response could have been written about the Pre65 and explains the ballot process for both events perfectly. I think most of the confusion stems from the term "ballot" which most people interpret differently to the way it has been explained by Highland Lassie. Perhaps the term "invite" would be more easily understood? Must admit i now understand much more the process thank you.
  12. Very interesting and across this side of the pond we dont seem to have any choice. Question apart from rotting glass fibre tanks what is the big problem with blended fuels. I ask because i want to know because i have no idea. One of the riders, actually three, use avgas but all i know is if i am behind them in a queue for a section their exhaust makes my eyes sting like it's stripping my eyeballs. Always wondered about that one. So can anybody explain what the problem is?
  13. Totally agree the work that goes into this event is frightening and it seems only fair that the organisers can invite whoever they like to their party. Good luck to all the entrants
  14. Thanks for that an interesting link however it only says "As a result, in 1964 he decided to go into business as a manufacturer" doesnt say when or what was produced trials or scrambles. Think this one will play and play. Whatever the Sprite is DEFINATELY in the spirit of pre65. I had one of the Villiers engined ones and it was crap so as i say definately in the spirit
  15. It was never the "competing" bit i was queerying. It was the available to and used by Joe Public i wasnt convinced about. Thing is there were Bultacos competing pre65 also so they should be also elegable to compete in Scotland and all other pre65 classes if the fact that there were ones competing is the decider
  16. The parts should be a straight swap. The TY250 forks are better, they are a larger diameter at 34mm, and slightly stronger sprung and damped but the damping is still crap. See a bloke in the UK is now stroking the TY175 too. Extra 5mm so coupled with a 200cc conversion should be quite a beast.
  17. Sadly it's the way it is nowadays. I know how you feel people dont give a s**t about anybody elses property. It's the i'll do what i want when i want attitude. Does make you think twice about putting yourself out next time doesnt it. Not trials connected but some slime bag stole the nearside mirror and electric motor from off my 2010 Sprinter this week whilst it was parked outside my house. I came out to the van and just found two wires hanging out. Cost me nearly
