  1. Nothing like saying " completely Pre'65 legal" at a trials event and seeing how many people snicker...
  2. I'm chipping in $5 to send this poor guys some real tie downs...
  3. Jay probably ran against both of them...
  4. I opted not to use those types of filters as they "muddle" the image too much. I can live with a few blemishes for the additional detail. But that's just me. The originals were pretty bad. I was actually surprised at how well they came out. Still waiting for the rest of the KT diehards to coming crawling out...
  5. Email me the original files and lemme see if I can clean them up... Oh, and waiting for Mr. Lael to comment.
  6. Very interesting...
  7. You may want to add some additional information about yourself: riding ability, location and budget. All of these factors can have a bearing on the recommendations. As you stated "all conditions even" will leave too much room for practical answers... assuming that's what you were looking for. "All conditions even"? I'd say an Xispa...
  8. That is definitely a problem on the East Coast. With no ITSA out West AHRMA events do pretty good.
  9. That they are. I always wondered why they made me go through the trap first...
  10. That BBQ weighs what, 30-40 lbs at the most? Not hard to haul up the stairs. Did you not see the size of some of those lads? And that's not a deer stand, that just somewhere to get away from the womenz. In the old days we called them treehouses and they had signs that said, "No girlz alowd".
  11. Heh, yeah, that's how AHRMA works... try a monarchy with a dash of nepotism. No, there is no reasons given. Nor will there be. Things are never that transparent. That's not how the real world works. There will be no discussion, no debate. This is old fashion politicking, got to call your "representatives" and hope they vote your way. And I do me hope.

    175 > 200

My cousin is asking for information on how to bump his TY175 to 200(ish). I searched and found a couple threads but none were specific. 1. What piston is used and are there any modifications to it? 2. I have been told there is a spacer under the barrel. Are there specs on the thickness? 3. I believe there is at least one UK supplier who can do said conversion but we will be looking to do this locally (if possible). 4. I told him to go on a diet or get a TY250, so far both of those suggestions have been ignored... 5. I'd suggest trying a boost bottle first but we'll see how that goes. Any other tricks?
  14. After hitting a few of those I wouldn't be surprised to see the frame go rigid...
  15. The sad thing is that is the Beginner line...
  16. Not this year but we may make the trip next year. Between that event and I believe Miller, we figured it would be a 10 day trip with 5 days of trials. Or something like that. Don't bother asking how much diesel will get consumed...
  17. That is pretty interesting. Fascinating subframe.
  18. For the click-lazy: Clicky here
  19. Those were definitely no-stop for a reason...
  20. I don't even want to ride at Lolo Pass, just watch these two guys go at it.
  21. Ah crap, another term I need to Google. "the teddies would be slung" Half the time I'm afraid of the explanation.
  22. I'm strangely aroused by Jay's description of handling a large British single. Is that wrong? As nice and politically correct as that was, even at a premier event such as The Farm there are what, 2 or 3% of all the riders on such bikes? So the rules are configured to support a tiny minority of the riders? With a vast majority of the riders on Modern Classic bikes (pre-1979), shouldn't trials be directed at them? Until then vintage trials may continue to be the redheaded stepchild to vintage motocross.
  23. Actually a 123 Cota is pretty deadly on an AHRMA course. The ultra short wheelbase makes quick work of the tight turns. What would be just as tasty is a 247 in a 123 frame. Luckily we all have too many projects as it is, eh?
  24. Definitely a fine argument against. Unfortunately you have organizations like ITSA where the only rules are twin shock, air cooled and drum brakes. All of which a TY Mono can be converted as such. So like it or not there is actually a place for a twin shock TY Mono... at least until someone gets really creative and puts twin shocks and drum brakes on their Hondaka-powered Sherco, ahem...
  25. Just as in most things there are two opposing camps. In this case we have the one camp which is the "in the spirit of the day" in which the bikes should represent a historically snapshot of what was ridden in the specified timeframe. This is epitomized by the philosophy espoused (especially in MX and to some degree trials) by AHRMA. The other camp is the "spirit of the rules" which believe that as long as the bike follows the written rules it is ok. For example no matter how the bike came to be as long as it has twin shocks it's ok. There are valid arguments for both groups. There has to be a balance between historical accuracy and practicality. If you insist on historically accurate you will get minimal participation, which isn't always practical from a financial point. Hence the dilemma. This particular case presents an interesting situation, as the TY mono was (please correct me if I'm wrong) available at the same time as other twin shock bikes. I think I'd rather discuss which oil ratio or tire to use, than the "legality" of such a bike in certain organizations.
