I'm going riding with Alan later today (if it stops raining). I'll get to argue these points in person.
The events you mention as every other weekend are modern trials. Much larger base than vintage only. Just adding Twinshock would not be enough for more vintage events.
If you've ridden a lot of events with observers you get spoiled. I've ridden events with 20 riders, with observers. Depends on how it's organized as to whether there are observers.
Our local modern trials club in Oregon tries to organize their events so the lower classes ride in the morning (with experts observing) and switch in the afternoon. So there are other options to peer scoring.
No stop? That's not going to increase or decrease the number of riders.
That will be the case with any "recreational" organization. A contraction of events is going to be inevitable. Doesn't necessarily spell the end of AHRMA.
As Ed stated, you have to have promoters. No promoters in the East means no events. Trials, and especially vintage trials it a hyper-specialized hobby. Out West it's taken patrons (like Mann) to shepherd vintage trials to where it's now, which I'd say is pretty good considering the challenges. It will take the same dedication (time and expense) to build up vintage trials in the East. Until someone or a few someones step up, it's an insurmountable challenge.
As the National Coordinators, Ed and Evelyn can't conjure promoters out of thin air. And it's not like they can go to someone not completely dedicated to vintage trials and go, "Would you mind spending an excessive amount of time to put on an event that will most likely lose money and then, regardless of how it goes someone will still complain?" If someone could pull that sales job they could make more money selling ice to Eskimos.

Too bad someone can't extract all the information from your brain and put it into a database...
-
Any idea the serial number for the frame change?
-
That may have been the case with later bikes. With the vintage stuff they may not have been that advanced.
-
Do you mean where they go into the engine side case?
I've seen everything from a bolt to a glob of silicone.
-
Don't you have to disable the oiler?
-
-
Just how old and uncool am I?
-
I think my uncle uses velcro to hold the seat down. Works pretty good.
-
Of course it might be just that I don't know what skint means.
-
Who would name their cat "skint"?

Here's the one with a poppet valve:
and the one with the REED:

I had a thread on how to post pictures but I can't find it anymore. There should be something in the Help section, maybe I'll write it up again and see if someone can stick it there.
In the meantime Big J ain't sharing?

The lack of pictures is disturbing.
Before and after would be ideal.

Are discs allowed in your Twinshock classes?

Too easy for a run away engine to self-ignite and a kill switch becomes useless. You should have a kill switch but don't expect it to always work on a screaming engine.
I had that happen on my Pursang (12k rpm in a garage is a wee bit deafening) and the kill switch did nothing. I couldn't get under the tank to pull the plug wire so I pulled the gas lines. Not ideal but it worked.

I believe the under-16 rule applies to MX. At least at the regionals, kids on TY80s are not unheard of.

Year cutoff is 1979 for AHRMA. Reflex is newer. Pretty simple. Same with other bikes that are excluded. 248 and 249 are both in, I don't know if "like-model" applies here.
There are still classes in ITSA. Historic, pre-Historic, etc. So on the face of it ITSA may seem simplistic, it's still broken in to class with rules...
When we run with the modern club we also have Vintage A & B. I think these are strictly twin-shock. Ishy or Jay might be able to comment. I ride the Vintage B but sometime wish I there were more kid's lines.
-
In some parts of the country this is true.
Ridiculous rules? Such as?
-
Yes, I miss the days of the wooden ships...
-
Sooooooooo... who has harder lines, AHRMA, ITSA or STRA?
-
MAR
This would be better.

Trust me, I'm not concerned or worried about ever finishing first. Heck, I'm just now starting to NOT finish last. But I almost always have fun.
-
That might push the poor old M49 into the Historic Class. Which means the year divisions are pretty flexible as the M49 came out it something like 69.
