There was an extensive discussion on the Bultaco Forum. Different condensers were measured. Condensers do vary although one's within a range will probably work.
-
I'm guessing there aren't too many NAPAs in the UK...
-
I didn't add any wire except to jumper on the junction block. I don't know how the Montesa does it. I should ask my brother what he did. Heck, he's probably got pictures too.
You may not want to use the stock condenser. The NAPA one mentioned has a tab to use for mounting already.
-
A 440 Maico will tend to do that.
-
Nope, less than that. Newer batteries are more than light enough. Saw one electric trials bike that was only slightly heavier that a standard one. And the power delivery is superior. Once it hits the top level gas bikes will be obsolete.
I just want to know if Gas Gas will need to change their name...
-
Here's what I did on my Bultaco.
The condenser wire just goes inline with the black wire from the points. This is the same wire that goes to the coil.
Don't ask me how this all works, pure voodoo is all I know.
-
There has been multiple discussions on electric trials bikes on Trials Central. Be sure to read all of them.
There will always be those who say they will quit if the bikes become electric. I find this amusing.
My guess is that all of the major manufacturers already have prototypes in testing.
Just a matter of time.

I tried to make a seat base... once.
I gave up. I bought a really nice seat from Mobley's for $125. He might have another. Not sure.
Foam and covers are available, but the whole seat was just a little bit more than those two parts.
I always forget you guys ride these things on the road. Ours go in the back of the pickup with the dogs.
-
Ya'll sure do have a lot them bird choppers.
-
If only my "sword" was that long...
-
The good news is that all the parts you listed are most likely available new, and also used.
Chain guards are for sissies. Take that one off the list.
As long as the frame and engine are there, you have most of the bike. The rest just hang off the frame.
Looking forward to photos to see how dire the situation is.
-
The swapped serial number now make sense.
I don' know how prevalent Bultaco motors are, but it might be worth it to find a complete one and slap it in the frame, as the numbers don't match anyways.
The tank/seat are available new. Since the frame is already painted you're 75% there...
-
Seems really odd that what appears to be an early M80 frame would have the recessed swingarm mount. If it was a late M80 I could imagine it might be possible. But not an early one.
Could it be that it's a M91 frame (perhaps the original one) but restamped? Or look to see if the rear part of a M91/92 frame was mated to the front part of the M80 frame.
I would love a close up photo of the knurling on the front fork tubes.
I hope the drunken ebaying was at least cheap.
-
To set the record straight, someone else started the Bultaco group a while ago, but let it languish. I took it over and cleaned it up a bit.
Ironically, FB Groups are no where as effective as sites like this. Most people use the Wall to post messages but they should probably use the discussion function, which is probably like a crappy forum.
I just hope those sites drive people to forums like this.

As mentioned (and I sent a PM to Andy), I don't want to own the Facebook group, necessarily. Atom, as Andy trusts you here, you are now also in power over there.
Everyone else, you have been warned.
-
Dunno, heard he's shady...
-
Almost 100 members already. Seems to be popular...
-
But you got a cool haircut out of it...
-
I was going to make a muffler like that for my Bultaco. I bought a used muffler (an FMF I think) but was going to need to cut the ends off and weld up something to make it work. In the end I got a Sammy Miller one and gave up trying to modify the used one.
You might look at the Sammy Miller one and see if it could be modified.

There are two major social networking sites, MySpace and Facebook. Facebook tends to be for a more mature audience and is more restrictive as to content. MySpace tends to be a free for all.
Big John is on Facebook, what other endorsement do you need?
-
Ok, new Trials Central group created.
If any of the Trials Central owner(s) object to this group, please let me know and I will remove it.
The group is open and is a place for folks to meet up over on Facebook.
I will be happy to share or hand over ownership or administration at any point.
Trials Central Facebook Group

I've had profile pictures of me on a bike.
And with that many users I doubt you're alone.
I think a Trials Central group would be neat.
-
Obviously protect the crank since the piston is off so it doesn't bang into the engine case.
-
TY Manuals are here.
Section 3 is Engine overhaul.
Hone and new rings for the top end.
New bearings (minimum) for the bottom. Hopefully gearbox is ok.
-
Don't throw it away.
Found the manual. Have it online in a while. Check back here later. 45MB, hope you're not on dial-up. Good news is that it's in sections.
