with more information/pictures/video's of the new 4-stroke its all starting to get pretty exciting (well, for me anyway).
Ive always liked 4 stroke power and had a crack on a few 4rt's, but ive always been put off by the weight of them. the new GasGas 4-stroke will weigh a touch less than the current 2008 2-strokes so theres no worries about weight.
however what is worrying is how reliable the bike is going to be. has the bike been tested enough? would you stay away from it for a year and see if any teething problems arise? or would you just risk it (like me).
Also Gas Gas will want to promote the bike as much as possible, do you think we will be seeing raga on it next year?
Ill reserve my judgment on it until I ride it but cant help feeling excited about it!

I think ill give riding gloveless a shot, it seems that the gloves do bunch up in the cracks in my hand which makes for more contact and compression on the caluses, the smaller glove Idea might work too.
thanks again everyone.

Aye hehe, you know what they say, Nice guys finish last.
But GasGasUK have looked after me well, really good customer service, I own a business myself so im sympathetic to being made to pay out lots for what is a relativly easy fix.

I ride at least 6 hours hehe, on sunday I rode 9 till 6:30 and felt fine, aslong as its not scorching hot I dont seem to run out of energy, I just eat plenty of food and drink lots too and I can go for miles.
Usually feel it the next day though.....
my hands start to hurt after about an hours riding but not too bad, Pulling on the bars seems to do make it worse, and long wheelies, I dont do any wheelies for fun until about the last hour of riding.

The problem is that I do drop it off big steps, in all fairness the bike gets alot of hammer, I wouldnt say its done badly. I recently had the master cylinder off to bleed the rear brake and may have over tightened it onto the exhaust because its only since then that it has broken.
for the sake of a few quid I may aswell just get it welded, the parts that have broken arent major and wont stop me riding the bike.
Ill keep it in mind though if anything more serious does happen.

Need a couple of bits of welding doing to my 08 300...
The Exhaust mount has snapped on the exhaust where it bolts onto the top bolt of the rear brake master cylinder, what material is that part of the exhaust made out of so that I know where to take it to be welded?
I also have had part of the frame snap off, Its the front right bracket that the airbox bolts onto, its snapped at the closest point to the frame, what material is the frame made from and what do I need to look out for when getting it welded? Im worried about electrics etc getting fried...

might be the same thing thats happening to me then, thanks for the advice.

quite the opposite, I think thats partly the problem.
Im a greengrocer so Im handling stuff all the time, Load and Offload a Jumbo transit every morning and im handling stuff all day and I think it doesnt do my hands any good, then when I come to ride, gripping the bars all the time just finishes my hands off.
I cut off the hard caluses and that seems to help alot but the problem doesnt go away =(

after about 6 hours of riding my hands start to become really sore on the caluses at the bottoms of my fingers, does anyone have a way of stopping this? ive always used Hebo "team" gloves, has anyone had any similar experiences with thin gloves and found other ones better?

Im probably wrong but didnt japanese bikes and cars used to be piles of crap? (im too young to remember) and now they are leading the market. Maybe china will go the same way?

Dont knock it till youve tried it!
Saying that, if I was a betting man, you can guess where my money would be....

No worries steve, thanks for the apology. next time I ask for advice on something I expect to hear some good words from you, Ive seen you ride and its pretty impressive.
As for the flywheel weight, Id reccomend it, I had it fitted to mine and it works wonders, also had a long S3 pipe on but cant comment on how much difference it made because I cant remember what it was like before!

No need for that Steve, I was just giving an honest opinion as I do own and ride the bike he is looking at getting.
The bike I originally intended to buy was a 250 however I found that the only thing that was availiable at shirty's was 280's and 300's because they had no forks for the bikes. I was initially worried that the bike would be too much but found it to be perfect.
The reason I was asking for advice on finding grip is because my technique was wrong and it was letting me down in sections. If your technique is wrong, the best place to look is the basics, get them right and build it up from there, thats what I did and it worked.
Ive been riding 10 months and since I got the bike my skill level has changed alot, When I first got the bike (6 months ago) I was riding the white route at trials, and now I ride clubman or expert (depending on whether or not hopping is involved), I found the bike as easy to ride when I got it as I do at the level im at now.
you also said to be in my post about finding grip "Then get rid of the 300 Gas Gas built for world round sections and world class riders and buy a bike you can handle", since when was the 300 a pro's machine? Its the 280 thats the nasty one. Also, I had a Beta 250 before that and I was having trouble finding grip on that too, Maybe I should just go out and buy a 125? and If its still too much, maybe a TY80?
Just give it a rest, you seem to have some sort of a problem with me even when Im asking for advice and its not nessisary or appreciated.

So far ive been riding in jeans all the time, and im getting to the point where im finding them restrictive. (after they ripped on me!)
Im considering buying a proper pair of trials trousers (for lack of a better word).
my only gripe about them is that they are skin tight and while everyone is wearing them, they still seem a bit odd to me! (and slightly homo-erotic).
also, the price tag is pretty steep, are they that had wearing and should I expect them to last? Im looking at some Hebo Pro-09's at 90 quid, anyone got any good/bad things to say about them?
also i have no idea what size to go for! im a 32 leg and 32 waste, would that be a medium then?
Any help appeciated =]

I have a 300, and I wouldnt say it would be too much for anyone, ive also ridden the 200 and can say its a fantastic bike but it has no resale value!

Im having some trouble moving the rear of the bike using the front brake, not nessisarily from a stand still but also from moving. I dont have a problem getting the rear wheel off the ground or getting the height right, I just cant seem to get moving it where I want to and If I do I sometimes find it hard to balance afterwards.
Does anyone have any tips or is it just something you have to practice and feel until you get it right? Its not like most techniques where I can look and see how its done (ie: rock steps etc) because it always looks so easy and natural when other people do it.
Cheers =]

You can spend hundreds of pounds servicing your bike but it usually feels exactly the same afterwards (and sometimes worse!!) However for the first time in my life I feel like its money well spent. My bike is only 6 months old but after a new chain and sprockets (renthal) and new bearings on either side. the bike feels alot smoother and quicker, I cant beleive the difference, just goes to show how sometimes, your bike may feel fine but in actual fact, it has been slowly getting worse over time, so slowly that you never even noticed!
Looking forward to a lenghthy ride tomorrow. big thanks to everyone who gave me advice on changing the bearings.

Im no expert but I know enough to put someone in the right direction, im in chesterfield though so maybe a bit far for you. if your looking for someone to ride with though give me a shout.
also, the Ryan Young DVD's are pretty good, both the beginners and expert ones.
Other than that, get yourself down to a Dougie Lampkin training session if theres any spots left, he cancelled the 6th of August and shifted me to the 7th, looking forward to it!
Other than that, anything your having problems with can be answered by the many experienced riders on this forum.

Im having a problem with the gear changing of my 08 300.
the gear has always been clunky from 4th into 5th and back down to 4th again but recently the bike doesnt want to change up into 2nd from neutral, its just grinds on the gear rather than actually selecting it. if I knock it up from 1st into 2nd or from 3rd down to 2nd It selects fine. Sometimes however, after changing from 1st to 2nd it can slip out of gear and into neutral. (this can happen up to 20 seconds after the gear change).
Does anyone know what the problem might be and how to go about fixing it?
Sorry if it sounds complicated!
