  1. I've just got back after a long drive back up to a suprisingly french like climate Scotland! Great trial once again, the ride around is superb with the majoprity of sections on super grippy rocks. I'm already thinking of next year and if i can stay even longer.
  2. I'll be there, riding S3 this time as I'm just coming back from a serious knee injury, seem to remember large steps on S2 so thought I'd do the sensible thing! I've just read through the regs again and started to panic. Is the standard ACU licence (trials registration) acceptable? Do we need a Grey card as I was under the impression that they're no longer required in EU countries.? How strict are they on lights? The last time I rode in '97 there was no requirement to have them fitted and the whole event seemed very relaxed, has this changed? I'm probably going to be riding a TYZ so trying to get lights sorted could be a reet pain in the a***! I realise this is all lastminute.com but any help/advice would be welcome. hughesy
  3. Yes , definately a trial worth travelling for! Many thanks to all observers and the club for putting on a great trial in such a fantastic location. Glad I dropped down to the B route after over 2 years away from trials! Many thanks to Big John for letting me loose for my first ride on a 4RT, I think "lust" is more appropiate than "like" John.
  4. Hello Mick, Gary and me are travelling up, looking to stay sat night, probably in Fort William as there's not a great deal of accommodation in Fort Augustus. I'll ring you in the Week.
  5. I hope you didn't ask for any 5's ! I rode my first trial since the '03 Scottish today at Dunfermline's club trial at Crief. Me and Gary had a laugh, I was a litle rusty to say the least. PS Beadwindow, don't tell work, I'm still downgraded!!

    The Challenge

I had my knee reconstructed on the 25th January 2005 and follwing two operations and 15 months I still haven't ridden my bike yet. Don't underestimate the rehab required from a serious knee injury. Looking on the bright side....... ahh B*****ks there is no bright side!!!
  7. Sorry, Duff Gen!! It's actually 12mm! Just checked the paint and it is Faraway blue PY59 supplied through Padgetts. Vauxhall Breeze blue might be easier to find though and it's a perfect match as I have one of those touch up sticks.
  8. Jetset, before you go and buy a Torx set, the spindle drive is actually a bi hex allen key, 10mm I think . Speedo drive spacers were available from Halton engineering I think.
  9. Pretty sure it's Yamaha faraway blue, I'll check later. Vauxhall breeze blue is a pretty good match too.
  10. Is an international licence required for this trial? If not does this mean purchasing the one event licence and taking a medical certificate? Any help much appreciated.
  11. Pinky frame and engine No's should start with 4AJ. Be careful there are a lot of people on ebay flogging Yams with aftermarket front discs as Pinkies! They're Not!!!!
  12. Ian Middleton 0141 563 8576 is your man. See you there You can be on Sharkwatch
  13. Hi, The 270 yam isn't really a 270 it's a lot closer to 260, it uses an IT250 piston and requires machining the bottom of the barrel as well as a rebore which doesn't leave a lot of liner left.IT250 piston kits are still available as pattern parts I think. A YZ piston was used in earlier versions but due to the short skirt it caused too much piston slap and so the IT piston was used later on I think. I've had two 270's both with the shortened inlet manifold and they are a lovely motor.I think the shortnened inlet manifold and porting makes the biggest difference though along with a decent silencer. A 270 kit certainly won't make it unusable for a novice as the Yam compared to modern bikes is so forgiving and soft anyway. Is it the one on ebay?
  14. Off topic I know, but what happened to Steetley Quarry down the road? Oswestry used to run trials there for years, what a venue that was, it was capable of holding World round sections although I've not ridden at Nantmawr...yet. Anyway good to see Breidden Hills going from strength to strength as a club and putting on a great trial by the sound of it and attracting over 100 riders on the same day as the Colmore.
  15. Hello Mate, No joy yet, phoned a guy today and was going to go down tomorrow but he sold it today to a local lad. Seen another one though, so the search goes on If not then it's time to cash in the ISA and get a new un, don't tell the missus though Needless to say, when I do get one I'll be pestering you for all your trick bits info again! Back on topic, I've done and finished 4 SSDT's and used 2 Mont's to do so, like previous posts it depends 90% on the rider.Good preparation, good maintenance and a bit of mechanical sympathy go a long way up there. Having said all that if it was a choice between 2 identical bikes and only one had done the Scottish then I'd take the one that hadn't one all day long, but you have to judge each bike on it's own merits obviously.
  16. Don't be so sure I just lost an e-bay auction to Duncan for a 99 TYZ, perhaps he's going for an upgrade this year Hope he's pleased with the bike, it looked a good un.
  17. Had a reply almost immediately, in better english than my question! Dates are 13-16 July.
  18. Hi I,m also keen to do the French 4 day again this year. I've just e-mailed the secretary to try and get dates. This is the only info I've found http://perso.wanadoo.fr/enduro/trial/ Hope to see you there!
  19. The bike you're referring to "might" be the RAM.If I remember rightly it looked more like the Whitehawk than a Majesty. There were never that many about, maybe they were pricey at the time so could be a collectors item. The only 2 I can recall were ridden by Karl Duffy from the Rochadale area and Dean Kenniford from South Wales and were competing at National Schoolboy level. Sorry I don't know much more about RAM but thought I saw a brochure once on e-bay?
  20. Hello Allan, Good to see you back riding again, I thought the Scottish might have put you off for life! Did you enjoy the Foster Cup? Hope to get back riding myself soon, after buying my van I've only used it for one trial in 2 years! Anyway here's the link's to a previous post showing the Yam after I finished her. http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/index....pe=post&id=1975 http://www.trialscentral.com/forums/index....pe=post&id=1976 Steve
  21. You certainly have to be careful buying bikes on E-bay.If the special Fantic wasn't enough, this guy's trying to sell a TYZ with no airbox or cooling fan. He explains "that it has the usual Yam rattles, yes even watercooled ones rattle". Well what a surprise! See here: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Yamaha-ty250-ty-250-...1QQcmdZViewItem So I thought I'd ask where they were. This is his reply: "Hi there,as the photo clearly shows there is an open filter i didnt bother mentioning it.I didnt even know it should have a cooling fan." So I explained politely that it most definately should have an airbox and cooling fan and he replied with this: "Individual filters which do not sit in an airbox are called open filters, like k&ns.Also i dont ever remember seeing tzr's, rd lc's,dtr's,kdx's etc with a cooling fan. Do you? Are you sure you know what your on about!" I didn't know whether to laugh or cry Anyway, the point I'm trying to make is to be careful when buying on ebay as some sellers seem to think ignorance is a suitable excuse to sell ****!
  22. If you want an original Yam spanner which incorporates an allen key then PM me with your address and I'll send one FOC as I've got loads. The spindle is basically a Bi-Hex allen bolt by the way.
  23. Yeah, there is storage in the box, enough for all my ****ty gear and petrol. When carrying two bikes I used a light board bungied to the rear wheels of both bikes as the lights on the trailer were obscured. The trailer stood up on it's a*** end fine without any supports, though this was more to do with luck than judgement.
