  1. I think this is what you're after, sorry i don't have any close up pics, my brother has the trailer now. I'll attempt to get some close up's,but can't promise anything as the last I heard it was locked in the garage and he's lost the keys! Anyway the trailer is a simple affair made from box section, chequer plate and mini indispension units. It towed very well (over 100mph-not on public roads obvoiusly)and was easy to store.

    Footrest Mod ?

Hi Marky, Here's a useful doc with loads of gen. http://myweb.cableone.net/bcanderson/mods.htm I also have a steel tank or two if you really want one?!They're no match for for plastic though! Good luck with the Yam, I had loads of fun messing with mine, don't forget to de-lug the frame before painting to shed a few pounds, I even managed to remove most of the Head steady mount which is unused on the "R"s. I've got details of a few more mods not covered in the link, PM me if you want more info.
  3. Yes Big John your're to blame!! Sorry John what I mean't was seeing your Yam reminded me how great a bike they were. I think this is my 5th Mono now and is for keeps, so you might see me riding it in the near future, knee permitting. Steve
  4. In my very biased opinion I don't think there is anything that comes close to the Yam.It won at every level from beginner's at club level and at World Championship level albeit just one round. They were simple, reliable and were over engineered in some area's which means that there's still some kicking around today. In fact nostalga has got the better of me and whilst unable to ride at the moment due to a knee injury I decided to restore a pinky Yam.I had the footpegs changed and lowered slightly, inlet manifold shortened, exhaust port raised and ported, flywheel lightened and the Carb jetted which all works well together and I reckon that in the right hands could win at club level easily.
  5. It must be knackered then, I had a new one in '97 and it certainly didn't lack any power.Bikes have moved on again since then but I don't think I've ridden better than I did on the Section. The build quality and overall quality left a little (ok a lot) to be desired but beyond that mine was a fantastic bike.
  6. Well here's the theory I read on Montain Bike website years ago, it was that by heating the disc up all the grease and oil that is held in the minscule imperfections on the disc's surface and released by the heat and then washed away by the water. The actually "Quenching" of the disc doesn't alter the braking characteristics because it doesn't alter the coefficient of friction of the disc, but removing the tiny paticles of grease and grime does. See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friction
  7. I think feetupfun is right, it looks like a 83/84 N or maybe an S. The tank appears to be from a SWM and the seat looks to have been butchered to accept the tank. The front wheel is a "Shirty" disc conversion, which explains the different coloured rim.
  8. Yeah I understand no two bikes are the same RS, but I thought someone might have a modded Yam which I could get a base setting from and go from there. I performed all the Mods myself using dims etc that I'd taken from my previous Yams that had been "done" by Mick Andrews and from Japanese magzine articles, it's not that difficult is it!?, the skill is in the development/experimentation. Anyone with the correct tools and a bit of care can do these mods. Unfortunately I've mislaid all the carb info, so I suppose it'll be trial and error unless anyone can help.
  9. Hi all, I'm currently rebuilding my Yam which has now had the inlet manifold shortened, flywheel lightened and been ported. So, does anyone have the jet sizes that will get the best out of these mods. I have the standard sizes but also have variations on every jet so can re-jet no problem. Anybody with a Mick Andrews or a Birkett tuned motor will have had their carb done, I'd be well chuffed if they could share this info with me. Any help most appreciated, Cheers
  10. Kickstart and Junior Kickstart were shown on BBC1 and BBC2 and they went on for more than a couple of series. I was unfortunate enough to appear "briefly" on Junior Kickstart in 1983, and was taunted thereafter throughout my Highschool years. Steve Colley won the juniors and David Lloyd won the "senior" juniors that year and it was shown during Christmas at lunch times!!! I don't think you could get any more prime time!

    Ty Mono Pics?

Marky G, After seeing yours and Big Johns Yam pics last year I got the mono bug again and prompltly went and bought a mint "pinkie", which is now in a thousand bits!!! Just had a rebore, shortened inlet manifold, ported, lightened flywheel and I've just cut off the peg hangers and am fabricating some new ones for the shiny Hebo's I bought. The frame is now completely delugged and is nearly ready for painting, then I can finally start reassembling, when it's finished I'll post some pictures on here. It should look good as I've got a full set of new plastics waiting to go on. PS if you're needing any bits I might be able to help (shameless plug over)
  12. I couldn't tell you if the whitehawk rode any better but it certainly looked a better quality frameset. However, I'm sure that the Majesty's sold better, but as we see today, it's not always the better bike/product that sells best. Shirty had some good riders on the national scene on Majesty's and this would of been a big influence. The Whitehawk tank and seat unit were a one piece unit, similar in style to the Whitehawk 80 but larger.
  13. I meant the Whitehawk frames, similar idea to the Majesty with a one piece tank/seat unit. The frames were usually chrome, made from Reynolds tubing and just looked a better finished item. I'm sure Mick Whitlock WAS Whitehawk? If my mini Majesty frame (and it is a proper Majesty item not a cut and shut TY job) is a Godden then yes I'd definately agree that some of welding leave's a bit to be desired. I just thought there was 3 frames available, and adapted TY, a standard Majesty one and then a "higher" spec Godden, which is slighlty different where the rear mudguard attaches. On top of that I'm not sure where the Mini Majesty fits in??
  14. Fair play that is gorgeous! It's a godden or otherwise mini majesty frame that I currently have then, I can see the dog leg down tubes you mention, I always wondered how to tell. The frame I have at the moment is cracked in a couple of places and I can't decide whether to repair it or sell it as it is. If I remember right the 175 barrel is a tight fit in the mini Majesty frame and the fins needed releiving with a round file in order to get it in. Interesting that you filler cap is on the left of the tank whilst mine is on the right. Mine was/is fibreglass and has just fetched good money on ebay.
  15. Aye, that's the fella. I think he was responsible for the frames on the Beamish Suzuki as well.
  16. Well there you have it! I 've only ever had Mini Majesty's and I would be surprised if they made by Godden as they certainly aren't the most beautifully put together item. I think the Whitehawk frame was a much better quality item.
  17. I had a Majesty as a schoolboy that was built from a kit bought from Shirty, and this had a fibreglass tank, however a mate also had a Majesty bought as a complete bike from Shirty and this had an aluminium tank.So both were definately avaiable at the same time. There were two types of frame available as far as I'm aware, a standard Shirty one and then a Godden one which apparently had better quality tubing and welding. I currently have an original fibreglass tank for sale on ebay, is this the reason you're asking?

    Sherco 3.2

still think it was brave of them to publicly 'test' them like they did and I hope they get them sorted as it is nice to see variety. Obviously they had decent riders on them but the bike performs well. It is curious though that given the amount of people who slated the Mont, which is a good bike, no-one seems to have a bad word for the Sherco. I'm not saying the bike deserves it because it doesn't, it's just puzzling. Or is it...
  19. I think Honda RS hit the nail on the head, the Mont was sorted BEFORE it went on sale (bar one bolt), however the Sherco is on sale and it seems that it's customers are now doing the development work for them, but at what cost? A retirement at the SSDT turns it from an expensive week into a very expensive waste of time and money! In the case of the Beta that Tarres rode, I think it was still being developed as prototype and not on sale at that time. Have to say though, at least they have got the Sherco silenced properly!
  20. Judging by their performance in Scotland I'd be buying a new set of spanners ready!

    Ty 250 Flywheel

Which TY are you referring to? If it's a mono then I can help as I've got a couple of standard ones and can weigh them for you. Furthermore if it is a mono you're after, I'm about to lighten one of mine so perhaps we could do a swap? Ah, just realised that you're in the States, so a swap might not be that practical, but if you still want a mono flywheel weighing then let me know.
  22. Not wishing to cause an argument here Coflet, but, I've owned a Vauxhall Combo and even in white it was undoubtedly the slowest van in world!! On a more serious note I think the Citreon Dispatch/Peugeot Expert/Fiat ???? is an excellent choice for carrying bikes, as it's the ideal compromise between a car and full sized van.
