  1. I'm currently in the middle of rebuilding a 92 TY250 pinkie, the bike has done hardly anything at all covering most of it's 490 miles on the road. So with this in mind, will the shock require recharging? Is the nitrogen just to keep the oil cool?, and will it have escaped over time? I should have tried it before I split it but I'm unable to ride at the moment due to an injury. I have access to nitrogen up to the required (I believe) 170 psi but as they're is no schrader valve I can't charge it. Is it possible to fit a schrader valve or will it be a case of sending it off to Falcon? Any help appreciated.

The only advice I can give after owning 2 Mont's is; check the lower suspension "dog bone" link which is made of ally and can take a battering and ovalise, which in turn lets water past the seals and knackers the bearings. (hope that made sense!). The rear silencers are prone to wear, the front inner pipe tends to open up and in turn the silencer becomes loose, this can be exagerated by the mounting rubber and bush being worn. That's as much as I can suggest other than the usual things to check. Make sure the fan comes on and Mont's don't tend to lose any coolant so check this. I'm biased but I don't think you can go far wrong with a Mont, yes they might be slightly heavier/wider than others but them so am I! Hope this might help.

  4. I'm really surprised at the amount of people using washing up liquid, as it contains salt and is therefore corrosive! Far better and cheaper is get hold of some Traffic Film remover which can be bought in bulk from many factors ie partco. This can then be diluted and still has enough strength to remove the crud. Secondly, there is absolutely no way you can clean a bike efficiently using only a hose pipe, at least not in the UK! A pressure washer is only damaging in the wrong hands as Dabster pointed out. If you stand there directing the jet at bearing seals then of course you are going to inject some water into the bearings, so don't, it's that simple!   6. When you wash it, add a few drops of TCP to the water and that'll freshen up and kill all the nasty bacteria.

  8. You do mean corsa van and not Combo van which is based on the Corsa? I've had a Combo van and my Mont went in no problem, will only take one fully built though, as it runs diagonally across the back. They're certainly not the fastest van in the world even in white!! But they're cheap to buy and run.

  10. Can anyone help? I'm in the process of stripping and modding a TY that I've recently bought, I've shortened the inlet manifold and lightened the flywheel and want to go the 270 route as I've done it before and was impressed with the results. The trouble is that I don't have the correct size rings for the piston I want to use, I have an IT piston part No 4V5-11636-00 2nd oversize 0.50 but no 0.50 rings. I have a piston and ring set of 0.75 but don't want to bore this big if I can help it as it doesn't leave much liner left. So can anyone tell me where I could get a set of rings Part No 2x7-11610-20 (161243 ) . Cheers

  13. I'm crocked with a torn cruciate ligament at the minute, waiting for an op but hope to do more local, ie dunfermline trials this year craig. Still hoping (in vain) that I'll be fit for the SSDT though. Looking at getting the new 4RT as an incentive to speed up the rehab
  14. Can any new 4RT owners tell me if the 04 315 rear wheel fits the new stroker? I appreciate it's the new AJP hub on the 4RT but just want to know whether to sell my spare wheel with my "old" Mont or whether it'll fit in the new 'un. Thanks in advance.
  15. Yeah nice one, with strokers like you around is it any wonder we're losing land all over the country! Why are so concerned with the noise debate of 2 v's 4 stroke when we've got people like you riding where they want and then thinking it's hilarious to get chased by the FC.

    I've jusy bought a pinkie with a view to doing the same thing. Having had a TY175 majesty for many years as a schoolboy I would say that it's probably a little bit under powered for an adult rider, other than that it's a superb little bike. It's a great handling flickable bike but just lacks a bit of waft.If you machine the yokes out you can even slip a Mono front end straight in. I would look for a ty250/majesty as it's probaby better suited to adult riders. Failing that, nice 200 or 240 Fantic is one of the best twinshocks around but it's just not a Yam is it! If all goes well I'll probably see at a couple of rounds next year.

    Yeah there was a mod whereby a different brake plate from an old yz (i think) was used, this had an external brake arm and was a definate improvement. Seem to remember Big John mentioning that Birkett used to sell em, may be availble from a breakers now though. Failing that disc it up! Gateway engineering and Talon used to do kits but again a breaker might be able to source a "pinky" front end. Hope that made sense and was of some use

  20. Very trick Subira! Where do you get all your bits? ie front pipe,rear silencer,tank,front master cylinder etc. The polished front rim looks nice too. What other mods have you done?

  22. Once again Dabster you seemed to have missed the point! I do NOT dispute that the Monts are the trickest works bikes in the paddock. But with the might of Honda backing/money that will always be the case. Using the USA world round as an example is a bit silly really Dabster, the majority of teams use stock bikes with trick bits due to the cost and logistics of shipping the works bikes over. Whilst not wanting to enter into a public slanging match,"my bike's better than yours debate" .I still stand by the fact that the Mont can't be descibed as "fat" by amatuer riders when the frame width of the works bike's are identical, ridden and developed by professional riders who know a lot more than us! Thanks for the "wiseguy" remark, really classy!
  23. And are you naive enough to think that Raga's, Cabestany's etc bikes are standard??!! Or do you believe that Montesa is the only manufacturer to have "works" bikes. Further, do you think that Dougie has asked Verlicchi to make his frame narrower at the footpegs as it's too fat!! I don't think so. We all know Dougie's bike is a trick 280ish magnesium laced special that is unavailble to the public but that's the idea of a works bike, isn,t it? I don't know what bike you ride Dabster, but if YOU believe that it's the same as that manufacturers works bike, then perhaps it is you that has missed the point.
  24. What do you mean? surely it's about how a bike rides and in the Mont's case lasts, as is it is about dimensions? Or have I missed the point?
  25. I've got to say that it really does look quite smart. All you need to do now is find a plastics manufacturer and start banging them out! I don't really understand all these " fat lass " jibes, Dougie hasn't really struggled for the last SEVEN years and Fujigas seems to managing with it at the moment!
