Yep the're the same style, that was last weeks scrapheap challenge. $30 is a bargain, and they work so much better than rear trainers.
-
I've just fitted some trolley wheels to an axle and mounted it just in front of the pegs. Works excellent.
I was hoping my 4yr old would just drag his feet to learn, but he needed the wheels to get his confidence up.
He wants to ride more now, makes the wife think it wasn't a complete waste of money. I'll be getting the wheels off as soon as he's keen.
-
Just a guess, but are you moving your weight back before preloading, then springing forward and pushing on the bars?
If you don't get your weight back it will compress both ends equally rather than a heavy rear compression.
-
IMHO, A 200 would be good for learning and you could do most sections on it with some skills.
The 250's and up, just need a bit more respect with the right hand. They'll break traction easier and launch with a bit more vigour. Meaning your skills don't have to be as good, as you can get away with using more power and less body.
I got a 250 Beta and had only ridden farm (MX80, XR100, XR200 and currently a DRZ) and road bikes (RD250LC, GPZ900) before that. Nothing with heaps of power. I love every second on my Beta, glad I didn't go for a 270 - 290cc trails weapons though.
See if you can ride a few before the final decision.
Cheers

Fair call on the bridge not being super hard, but it was a warm up to run the 450 BMW over it. Stills at the end of the vid.
At the same time we are talking about one of the greatest stunt riders of all time.
Just getting up on the roof of the Hummer would have stuffed most of us.
-
Not keeping feet on pegs.
-
Nice find, Part 1 with Eric in it is great too. The GG enduro's look like good bikes.
-
05 Rev 3 Would be ideal, I think engines changed slightly in 03, then again in 08. The 05 is quite a popular model.
Check all the normal things, leaks, wear and tear etc.. Don't worry 5th and 6th on these bikes is fast enough and with the geometry, makes it a exciting going fast. Scary fun.
Cheers

G'day Peter, Welcome aboard. Where are you riding?
-
Welcome, any pics of the obstacles?
-
Shell Advanced 10W gear oil is what the Beta dealer recommends.
Cheers

+1 for the 250. Use the clutch, no problem.

Yep Trials is a great challenge. More about style than speed.
I'm new at it too, but I would suggest a 200 or 250 bike, younger than 2000.
I ride Beta Rev 3 250, but thats because Dave Ryan, an excellent agent/national distributor for them is 15 mins away.
Any of the top brands would be good though. Ryan Young's DVD's are excellent for getting some techniques sussed out.
-
Save up and get a Trials bike to compete on. You'll love em'. Just can't get the turn out of an enduro, long rake for stability at speed.
-
What sort of bike are you looking at getting Connor.
Let us know what you get and what you think of the first rides.
I got into it from Enduro/Trail bikes and trials bikes are wicked.
Smooth powerful motors, like a giant slingshot in 2nd or 3rd gear launches.
The grip is something else and they turn so sharp they feel like that they'll back out of the turn at full lock.
What area or club are you going to be riding?
Enjoy

Awesome photos. Some of the best i've seen too.

1 tooth less on the front will give you a slower minimum speed with more acceleration and less top end.
Going 3 teeth more on the back will have the same gearing change. 1 front tooth equals 3 back teeth.
-
It covers everything. Maintenance, Setup, Stance , Balance, Turns, Wheelie, Double Blip, Zaps and Splats along with lots of other tips.
I've ridden dirt bikes for 30 years and learned more in a few months from this DVD.
-
'Trials Training Techniques and Cross Training Tools' is the first one.
Advanced Training Techniques is the second one.
-
I find the first Ryan Young DVD awesome, an invaluable piece of training kit. The second one is more for advanced techniques, still excellent if that's what your into. Or just great entertainment and showing the uninitiated what the bikes can do.
-
Greetings Maude, sounds like you got a bargain. Enjoy the Beta.
-
Thanks Jimmyl, good advice and something I wouldn't have thought of.
I got a bit of vid of one of the practice sections.

Still working on style and stamina.Along with getting some pants that stay up.

Awesome effort by Patrick Smage, those scores are Bou like.
Can't be long till he gets into the World's to represent the US.

That's some nice riding and great photo's.
I'm having fun working out the best foot position to cover the rear brake, turning left from downhill to uphill.
Digging the peg into my boot, sticking the knee out to counterweight and trying to smoothly operate the brake. The angle still feels awkward, but it's coming together.
I'm learning to keep the rear covered, practicing wheelies and jumping over or onto objects and stopping.
