Got a Bultaco Sherpa m80 project. The swinging arm has two badly rusted bolts welded on for shock mounting. Don't really want shock bushes running on a course thread. Does anyone know if you can buy weld on threaded bosses or get the right size threaded bar or will I have to get something made up?
Cheers.
Brilliant! Thanks for your help. With the part number 90982 I managed to find it in the UK. As you say Laser Iridium plug. The key to finding it is that the number is MR7B( then the letter i rather than the number 1) -8. Should be able to source one and give it a try now.
Thats interesting thanks. I can't find the plug code online. Must be unusual. Have you had the plug out and does it look like it has a longer reach or any other major difference?
It was Ben Hemingway who mentioned it in a test for a well known publication and he was apparently riding a standard 300. If you google this pug code you won't find much except maybe reference to it being used in a snowmobile. Quite intriguing!
A recent test article mentioned the 2018 300 4t model using a plug that extends further into the chamber. Anyone know if thats a new plug or a new head design?
Scottoiler do a variant of their FS365 protector spray called TMX365. http://www.scottoiler.com/products/refill-lubes-protectors/tmx-365-off-road-protector/ very easy to apply and very easy to remove as it's water soluble.
I found the Scorpa often wouldn't start on closed throttle. If it didn't go after 2 kicks it would fire up on the third with the throttle fully open. I think I maybe read that in one of Birks SSDT prep guides.
JL confirmed that all UK bikes come with the competition jetting and stripping the carb confirmed that that is what my bike had. Had felt a bit flat off idle so trying 4 turns out on the mixture screw as suggested in Lampkins SSDT prep. guide. Hot start hose had melted through so looking at rerouting or sleeving.
Just got the bike and looking at the manual there is a carb set up for homologation and one for competition. Which would a UK dealer supplied bike come with as standard?
Cheers!
Been noticing that there are a few after market shocks available for the TY250R. Rock shocks, Hagon and now even an Ohlins unit from CTC. Anyone fitted any of these and come to any conclusions on them? My original shock is okay so I'm not needing a replacement, just wondering about whether the performance is much better and what the weight saving is.
Cheers
Hoodie.
I had the WES go on a pinky in the 90's and it was okay. Just got an 86 bike with original pipe and wondering if the WES GO is still the besdt way to go.
Thanks! Sounds like I could pick up a 270 piston kit and get it rebored then. Does anyone have the specs for the inlet or port mods or know if Birks will still do them?
Just got an 86 ty250r and had the top end off for a look. It's not bad but has some scratches. It's got a piston with 50 stamped on the crown. Also has a shaped crown rather than even curves. Only have ordinary vernier calipers so only measred the bore at the very top. Seems to be 68mm there. Can anyone tell from any of this whether it's already been rebored. Does the 50 mean 0.5 oversize?
Also any one know if Birketts will still do the 270 kit & shorten the inlet tract? Last posts i've seen were about 4 or 5 years ago.
Cheers.
Thanks! That helps a lot. So in the case of the TLR does it start life with off set yokes and steeting that can be altered by fitting parralel yokes or by modifying the head stock angle? Am I right in thinking that if it's done right the frame mod is better as it retains the original off set?
It's a TLR200 I'm looking at. Think I'm needing the basic info on offset and parallel yokes. Do these terms refer to the angle of the fork tubes in relation to the head stock? I was thinking parallel yokes meant the stanchions were back in line with the steering head rather than forward of the stem in a v configuration.
Need a bit of help to get my head around steering mods on a twinshock. I've read about people fitting parallel yokes to alter the steering angle, rather than cutting and re welding frames. Does that not just shorten the wheel base and leave the fork angle the same? Just wondering whats needed to improve steering is it about the rake on the forks or the wheel base? Cheers.
Having known many people with asd I'd say there's absolutely no reason why you should or would be denied a lcence to ride trials. Perfectly suitable sport for you and I'd say go for it.
Looks very nice to me. Nice mix of conventional features and innovation. First thing I wondered was are the guy's at HOPE involved in this? Colours, graphics, and engineering are all very reminiscent of HOPE MTB products. Dougie has links to them, doesn't he?
