  1. Hi all. Had a notion to build myself an early 70s sherpaT for nostalgic reasons. First bike I fell for was a model 91 Sherpa T when I was 8. Always wanted one and finally got myself a an m92 frame. This is the starting point for a long term project. I was wondering how the engines vary accross the 70s and what range of engine numbers I should be looking for to get one that is compatible with this frame. Any guidance would be much appreciated. Cheers. Hoodie
  2. I think the record book is a big part of the problem. How many riders are competing for the record of most SSDT finishes or most consecutive finishes? I don't know but I suspect Phil could be one of them. This certainly may lead people in Phil's position to make bad judgements and keep the record attempt alive, particularly if theyve been working towards it for twenty years. That's a fair investment. I'm not condoning this. He cheated and failed to admit it repeatedly and he's paying the price, as he deserves to. Although I suspect he won't be too bothered about most of what's been said on here. Not all of the trials community are very concerned about the views expressed here. In my opinion this type of record also raises another problem; The ballot. Is it fair that some riders entries are accepted year after year without question because they have a long run going and may be contenders for this record eventually? Why should some get an entry gauranteed for ten to twenty years, when others never seem to get a chance? Maybe there shoukld be no allowance for this type of attempt in the Ballot?
  3. I agree. The Hebo auxilliary tanks are a good way to carry a little extra fuel. A few local riders have been using them for years, for long practice rides. No ones ever had a problem with one. Did go to a trial with it on once and bumped into a member of the SSDT organising club. He rekoned it would still not pass scrutineering. I think they are a good idea but someone would need to do a bit of work with the club to get the regulations updated.
  4. If you want to get more out of the gearbox I'd go the other way. Raise the gearing with an 11 tooth gearbox sprocket. You'll use 1st for most sections and still be able to use the first 4 gears in sections, 5th on the moors and 6th on tracks/roads. This way you use all the gears. Gear down and you'll make 1st redundant, it's just too low and you'll use 2nd for most sections.
  5. http://www.scottoiler.com/forum/forum_topi...d194d511z54177a Anyone ever thought about using a Scottoiler on your Trials or off road bike? There's some good information on the Scottoiler site and on their forum, at the link above. Cheers.
  6. the bike with the different exhaust is Christophe bruands. It has a different airbox also. The new bike looks a lot better in the new graphics, is supposed to have a better, heavier flywheel and has two, switch selectable, ignition map settings.
  7. The 2009 Scorpa range is due to be launched this week at Intermot in Cologne. Today was press day at the show, so somebody out there must haven pictures of the bikes by now. Public get in tomorrow.

    Tuning

Hi was wondeing if anyone has had work done to try and clean up the carburetion on their Scorpa sy250. Theyre pretty good as they come but I've always liked to get my bikes as clean running as possible, with little loading up, at the bottom end particularly. So what would people suggest, jet work or would anyone recomend porting work on the cylinder? The bike is running 80:1 on super unleaded and has standard timing for british models. Any ideas apreciated. cheers
  9. Two of my mates are riding 07 sherco's. Both have more problems with cracking muguards than on any bike I've seen. They never seem to bend and return and always split or snap off, despite being held only by cable ties. The plastic is clearly too brittle. Has this been fixed on the 08 models and could the problem be solved by fitting 08 plastics. Cheers.
  10. Have you removed the lights and any of the wiring harness? If so did you remove the regulator that clips onto the alloy sub frame? This affects the current to the fan and needs to be left on. Otherwise check the block conectors/wiring under the tank. It's pretty tight in there and I found one of the conectors had got pulled and was'nt tight. Good luck.
  11. will there be no rev4's coming into the country until the 08's arrive in the Autumn, or can you still get later 07 models from the dealers?
  12. Thanks guys. I managed to get the swinging arm welded up locally and am very happy with the results. Also as suggested will replace the bolts with decent stainless ones and loctite the nuts. Cheers.
  13. My sprocket bolts came loose today. I lost three and didnt notice any problem until the sprocket came off the hub. Without noticing any increased drag or any noise the loosened bolts had gouged a channel out of the inside of the swinging arm. They had almost worn right through before I realised. Obviously this highlights the need to check these bolts regularly and make sure they stay tight. A loose bolt can clearly cause a lot of damage very quickly. I was wondering; has anyone had to replace a swinging arm on an SY 250 and if so how much did the replacement cost? Am I going to need a second mortgage?
  14. I have two friends who both had tanks smash. The first nose dived into a ditch, the bike flipped over and landed upside down on the top of the tank. It shattered around the cap. The other was a fall that caused the kickstart to hit the tank and split it. I've tried to reduce the risk of this by grinding down the kickstart , at the end, where it would be likely to touch the tank. A point loaded impact like that may crack or shatter the tank. The plastic does seem to be quite brittle. Great bike though and one of very few faults.
  15. Have you removed the lights and the related wiring and if so did you remove the cylindrical regulator, that attaches to the sub frame? The absence of this regulator causes the fan to run okay until you reach higher revs, at which point it cuts out, possibly resulting in overheating and seizing. There have been previous posts on removing the lights and on the importance of retaining this regulator.

    Flat Sump Guard

Thanks for that Lee. I contacted Steve Goode. He has someone in Germany making them for him but he has no date yet, when they will be available. They will retail at

    Flat Sump Guard

I'm looking to replace the sump guard on my 04 sy250, for a flat one. Birketts are looking for

    Wheel Bearings

Thanks for that Boofont, thats exactly the info. I was looking for.

    Wheel Bearings

need to order wheel bearings for the front and back of my 04 sy250 and want to do it online. What size bearings am I needing? Someone told me that they use different sizes from the other trials manufacturers and that the front and back are different. I want to have the new bearings ready to go before I knock out the old ones so any help would be appreciated. Cheers.
  20. Does this apply in the low gears in sections or mainly in 3rd & 4th on the course. I made this change before on a gas gas that was crying out for a higher first gear and it worked fine.
  21. I don't get it. How would it change the balance/weighting of the bike? This mod is recommended by Birks. for the Scottish, if you need to make up time on the tracks & roads. I'm trying to find out how different the bikes gearing would feel in the sections, with an 11 tooth g box sprocket. Is it as simple as using first all the time instead of 2nd, with 2nd for bigger steps and 3rd for hill climbs?
  22. I am thinking about changing to an 11 tooth gearbox sprocket on my SY250. I never use first gear so thought I would change up to bring 1st back into play. Does anyone know from experience how the extra tooth affects the ratios? will 1st gear with an 11 tooth sprocket be the same as 2nd with the ten tooth or does it end up a bit lower than the original 2nd gear?
  23. I reckon that they will go for the economies sherco looked for by having the two bikes share as many components as possible. Cheaper than having to build two complete bikes. Could the new frame be adapted easily to accomodate the two stroke engine and would their be any gain in doing this?

    Sy 250 Updates

the comment in the paper was definetly about the two stroke and implied that there was development work going on.
