  1. I see in T&MX that someone is producing a replacement set of elctrics for the rev3. Anyone tried them or know anything about them. Who makes them, are they good quality and a genuine upgrade on the original equipment?
  2. I noticed in the editorial that they give an E- mail address for feedback. Might be worth dropping them a line of encouragement, so that they think there are enough interested people out there, to make it woth their while continuing with the project. If we don't support it it'l be history in a couple of months.

    05 Electrics

I noticed in the TBM test that Mike Rapley said that the Beta's electrics were still dodgy. Have they not fixed the problem yet? If not where are the weaknesses? I've heard that the Stators are weak and have also noticed that the CDI's seem to pack in. I havent heard whether they suffered a lot of failures in Scotland this year. I like the Rev 3 a lot but would be put off buying one if it's going to let me down.
  4. I thought the Trials test was better than anything I've read in T&MX or either of it's magazines. I expect they would improve if the magazine got off the ground as well. The enduro tests they have produced are excellent guides for the bike buying public. Problem is those that make their living out of selling bikes feel threatened by it and won't support it, so it's going to disappear without trace. TBM may wait until Trialsworld flops and then try again. It's a pity support from ordinary punters was'nt enough to make YOU HAVE USED WORDS OR A PHRASE WHICH ARE NOT PERMITTED ON THIS WEBSITE. PLEASE DELETE YOUR POST/TOPIC. DO NOT TRY TO CIRCUMVENT THE FILTERS IN PLACE ON THIS WEBSITE. a viable proposition.
  5. I wonder if anyone drowned their Mont. and if so how easy it would have been to get it up and running again. Is it just as easy with fuel injection as it is with a carb. set up?
  6. The ignition problems are so well known and common you would think the problem must have been solved on this years bike. Anyone know if it's been resolved on the 05 models or is it just too early in the year to tell. I suppose the Scottish will give the answer to that question.
  7. Anyone heard if their entry is accepted or seen the starting order. I was looking for info. on the Lochaber web site but it seems to have disapeared from the updated ACU site.
  8. I heard that the use of Lauder common may have been lost due to cowboys riding illegally, and that the Plaza trial might not run this year. Can anyone confirm this or is it still possible the trial will go ahead?
  9. I have an 01 model that I was thinking of making road legal. How easy would it be to get an M.O.T. Will a Trials bike with no lights still pass as long as it has a horn and speedo and is otherwise mechanically sound? Anybody got any recent experience of this and what are the pitfalls?
  10. No offence taken. I agree with the idea in priciple as well and am quite happy to ride events on a no award basis. I just want to know whether championship events will cater for eveyone and if I will be able to ride the B route either as an over forty or as a non expert but outwith the clubmans championship. I got upgraded at a time when I could not ride regularly and was definetly not improving. I got downgraded after 3 years of not competing and now compete half a dozen times a year, usually finishing in the middle of the non experts. I have not competed as an over forty yet although I do qualify. I'm not a trophy hunter looking to jump down a class and scoop all the awards. I just want to participate in these events in some way. I think there are some quite good riders who would rather be top non experts than tail end experts and have deliberately avoided the Nationals to avoid being graded up. These guys will fight out the clubmans championship.
  11. After hearing that the SACU were running a clubmans championship alongside the main championship I was looking forward to having a go at the series. Then I heard that if you had ever been graded expert you could not ride the clubmans championship. Is this right? As an over forty, downgraded, non expert would I be ineligible?
  12. I think last years licence didn't expire until the end of January 05, so they might not be hurrying for that reason. This years callender is available on thea sacu website I noticed.
  13. Has anyone tried fitting the new dellorto flat slide carb on an older TXT, such as an 01 280? Was it worthwhile and what kind of result did you get?
  14. For your average rider on a budget the best tyre has to be the one that holds its edge and shape for longest. I like IRC best because the blocks stay sound and do'nt start to break up when youve turned the tyre, like it does on the Michelin. For an intermediate rider I do'nt think you will notice a difference in performance between the Michelin, Dunlop or IRC. The IRC has the best balance between durability and a compound that gives plenty grip. The top guys ride Michelin because the company deals with the big manufacturers and because there use is encouraged by importers and dealers.
  15. So what are the pro's and cons of fuel injection? It seems more mechanically complicated with more components that could potentially fail. Also I'm wondering how robust it is. If it gets typical trials abuse like say it gets dropped in a pool and draws water through the air inlet how will the system cope?
  16. I've been thinking about getting a compressor, but have no idea what sort of spec., I'd need. There seem to be plenty available for the amateur mechanic, for about
  17. Save yourself a lot of hassle and give up on the spindle. Take a hack saw to it. Cut between the wheel and fork leg on opposite end from the thread. With the pressure off the thread and all that penetrating oil you've soaked it in the remaining spindle should come out. Cut a slot in the end for a screw driver if you need to. This was the quickest fix for me on a seized Fantic swing arm spindle, (also alloy.).
  18. I hope this is not your problem but it may be. I had problems with an 01 txt which wore out seals every 3 months. I got little joy out of the importer despite discovering that the problem was caused by poor manufacturing quality. On mine the bush holder of the fork leg had been machined oversize. This meant that the bush was not fitting tightly round the stanchion, causing it to have lateral play. Over time this play allowed the stanchion to slop about in the fork leg gradually opening out the seal until it leaked. I saw lots of bikes with the same problem but no one seemed to know of a fix other than replacing the seals a lot. Eventually I got a solution from Alan at White brothers. It's a fair bit of work but it solved the problem for me. Drop your fork out of the clamps, put the lower leg in a vice and grab the end of the stanchion. If you can feel it move side to side much then that is probably your problem. I had to strip the forks. De grease the copper bush thoroughly. Then build up two beads of solder around the outside of the bush. I then had to gradually sand the solder down until I got an even coverage of just the right thickness to to cause the bush to close more tightly on the fork stanchion removing the play. To do this you need to sand down the solder a bit, then try the bush in the fork leg, with the stanchion and test for lateral play. If there is still play you need to build up more solder. If the fork is too tight you need to sand off more of the solder. Persevere with trial and error and you will get it sorted but as I said it is not an easy fix. Hope this makes sense. If your lucky your problem will be something more straightforward.
  19. Anybody got any tips on identifying the subtleties of poor carburation. I often find that my bike gets a bit out of tune, particularly right off the bottom where the power will not come in smoothly and progeressively from idle. On wider throttle openings I can tell if it's weak and searching for fuel or four stroking and obviously rich, but on the pilot jet I struggle to identify which condition causes this delayed responsiveness. I can spend all day trying to tune this problem out on the mixture screw without ever succeeding. Other people have ridden the bike and do not seem to notice a problem but I know how smooth the thing can run, I just can't keep it in that trim for some reason.

    Drag

I managed to get rid of drag in my TXT280 by reducing the quantity of oil from 750cc to 650cc. I use TQF automatic transmission oil and change it quite regularly, usually when the drag starts to come back. After about 2 months the oil starts to lose it's properties and drag re appears. Hope this helps.
